Need help from local Thai members for info. A friend is holding his bachelor party in BKK for the weekend of 11/14 11/16. I been to Thailand before and know that they absolutely love their monarchs. Just found out that the Nov 14 is the cremation of the late princess during that weekend.

Rumors is that they will be having alcohol ban and entertainment places shut down in BKK for that weekend. Some says it will just be tone down. Can anyone tell me what they have heard or what the local news is in BKK? Any bar owners online here that know any inside news?

Our plan B is to go to Pattaya, how will these type of ban/shut down work there? Will it be much more relaxed?

Please help out a distressed monger with any news.

Try United Airlines. Flight sucks for so so service but I got a price of $1016 in early December, from LAX. They charge for drinks ($6.00) and give you minimal food. Use the flexible date feature.

Please help out with any news for a monger in distress.[/QUOTE]I'm not Thai, but I live in Thailand, and IMHO, the ban would very likely be observed in almost all establishments and most of the girls will be back in their village or town of origin then. Your best luck will be with the freelancers but not many will work during these mourning days, and Pattaya might have more of them than Bangkok (or at least, they would be easier to find there).

Oddly enough, Gulliver's on soi 5 has always struck me as a likely target. It is one of the few places on Sukh that the puritanical American authorities have OK'd for patronage by embassy workers and US military personnel, Nana and Cowboy being "no go". In addition to its "American" image it is one of the few places you are likely to find a lot of Americans. It also has the distinction of being right next to soi Arab. Gulliver's is one of the few places that occasionally at least does pat-downs on the way in, not without reason I suspect.

Nana is bad in terms of layout but Patpong, with crowded night market, is only marginally better in terms of safety. It isn't something I worry much anyway- when your number's up, it's up, and it doesn't make much sense to worry about that and still take motorcycle taxis.

It looks at the moment that ALL the bars will be closed on 14./15./16th of November. Most likely all Naughty Massage places will be closed, too, but this is a grey zone and depends on the level of risk the owner of the place is willing to take.

This is still NOT confirmed by the police - as soon as we get the confirmation I will post it here.

And their air hostesses are really cute in their red uniforms, but Air Asia is not a reliable company, at least when speaking about departure time. Their flights from Bangkok are often delayed (taking off one hour later or more than the initially scheduled time) and sometimes simply canceled! Nok Air (for instance) is a comparable company and seems to be far more reliable in this respect.

Duni, I see you are current on the fact Air Asia is now flying to India......

I have flown them several times. Buy on board food, clean airplanes, not necesseraly on time, so I would not use them if I had a connection.

Safe, and friendly staff. You can pay at check in, I think an additional 10 USD, which gives you priority boarding, allowing you to sit where you wish.

I would have no problem using them again.

Duni, Air Asia are on a similar level to all the better budget airlines: Ninety five percent of the time, they are cheap, efficient and reasonably punctual. But when things go wrong, don't expect any type of customer-friendly service. In such circumstances, customer service is normally designated to the airport ghost :D. Don't use a point-to-point airline if you have any adhering, connecting travel arrangements. Otherwise, generally, they are fine.

I was on Air Asia last night -- Kuala Lumpur to Medan, Indonesia. When I bought the ticket two weeks ago the departure was to be 19:50. Upon arrival at KLCC on another Air Asia flight, I found out by checking the internet the flight had been rescheduled to 22:00. The plane finally left at 23:15. Pretty typical for Air Asia.

I've flown them a lot. Usually good, often late. Very pretty flight attendants!

I have fly with air asia a few time BKK to KL and BKK to Singapore, it is a no frill cheap airline both time they are on time and full, they do charge for extra baggage and drink on the plane.

One thing is you need to book online to get cheap fare and ticket is not refundable.
