Anyway, you and the Doctor seem to assume that I've never been to Russia? That's wrong: I've visited twice, but admittedly to St.Petersburg both times rather than Moscow. Skank's point about Moscow being a state in the state is relevant here - that's also what I've (!) heard - and anyway I have relatives in Piter who nannied me incredibly so it's not the same thing.

But, more to the point: my wife is Russian. Mais oui! We didn't meet in Russia, but she still has the passport. And she, I have to admit, rather agrees with you. She keeps telling me "Priam, your western Liberal do-something-good-for-the-world attitude will come across to Russians as weak and naive. They'll eat you for breakfast." And...

I am going to Zelenograd next Monday for 6 weeks. I heard it is an absolute shithole, nothing to do, no restaurants, no bars, no girls.

Is there anything to do in Zelenograd. According to the customer you can take a train to Moscow but then you need to take a bus from the hotel to the train station, take a train to Moscow and then in Moscow take another bus or Metro. I think impossible if you do not speak eany Russian and can also not read it.

Are there any cheap hotels in Moscow. How about Cosmos. My company normally books sovietzky which is about 200 euro but the hotel in Zelenograd is only 100 euro.

I guess it will be the most boring 6 weeks of my life, only seeing the factory and the hotel and nowhere to eat and drink except in the hotel.

Is it easy to drive in Moscow. If I take a rental car is it then easy to find your way.

I'm not sure it's a good idea to try and drive into Moscow. If you speak no Russian and the ГАИ flag you over for a bribe, it could be a tense moment. Plus, the traffic is a nightmare and if you don't know where you are going, you will be lost.

There is a train from Zelenograd that will take you into Moscow, where you can transfer to a Metro station. If you plan your trip, no need to read Russian, just get off at the 8th stop (or 9th or 10th). The real problem will be that the public transit shuts down at 01:00, so you would be stuck in Moscow overnight. Unless you could find a taxist to take you back out to Zelenograd. Highly unlikely.

It's possible that you could find someone with a car in Z who would be willing to drive you into the city and back for a reasonable price. That's your most likely option.

If you will not be working on the weekend, then you could take the train into Moscow and take a hotel room for a night or two before returning to Zelenograd.

I know it's tough, being so close and yet so far.

I have been an avid reader of ISG for a couple of years by now, being a pretty frequent traveller to former USSR countries, and I enjoyed the valuable advices of many of you, especially Resident and Senior Members.

I am not so fool to rank myself as a cross between Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise but I have to say I never found it hard to establish a "contact" with a girl in places like shopping centers, banks, streets, ending with some date the same evening without showing a glittering roll of 500 Euros notes packed in my pocket.

As a matter of fact, I succeeded in establishing a pretty highly rewarding small network of gf in early 20s (I am 38) around Eastern Europe, in towns where my business frequently drives me, let's say once per 1-1,5 months.

I am used to bring some presents to them (nothing spectacular indeed..), I am deeply convinced most of them just need something that most (not all) local guys can't even imagine: attention.

Of course the game has to be played differently in places where it happens to me to go much more rarely, like Moscow.

It's no use for me to spend time and energy to build some sort of "long term gf relation" in vkontakte, omen or similar dating sites, but since Slavonic DNA has a such strong influence on me (causing Massive Temporary Blood Displacement..) I am asking for some suggestions.

I think it's about the safest possible place to get laid in Moscow. Pick a reliable girl (like Tanya from Fantasy's or Rimma from Charmel) and she will fuck the shit out of you - guaranteed. You can outcall them too, but it's expensive (3 hours min). If you're intimidated with your limited Russian, have a friend or colleague set up the meeting for you.

True - the only thing you want to rent in Moscow is lodging and pussy. Very few signs are in English, so unless you have a GPS (and/or read Russian), you're fucked.

Only thing I don't agree with Strav on is on avoiding bribes to GAI. My personal experience is the less Russian you speak - the better. But then again, his Russian is better than mine...

I second Pizdyet's remarks about Charm'el and Fantasys. Low risk, high quality, moderate price though.

Regarding the girls on Rusdosug and Intimcity, the one or two I have actually met did fall short of the photos, but not by much. It's a great way to "stack the deck" in advance so that you are not caught floundering and wasting time when you arrive. I have found that their command of English is all over the map however. Some are more confident over a keyboard but are shy in their spoken English and vice versa. No big deal though.

Having said all that, there is no substitute for the "interview" as you well know. the first Russian girl I communicated with over the Internet (with the intention of a sexual encounter) was disappointing because there was no "sexual chemistry" between us. Gorgeous girl but there was no "spark". Not her fault, but it's not something you can judge over cyberspace. However, the second was completely the opposite so there you are - it's still a gamble. Again, nothing you don't already know but permit me to reinforce it.

The real "GRAB BAG" for value are the "Pink-border-mamba" girls who run working apartments. If you treat it like a "mystery date", it can be fantastic value and a wonderful adventure. It can also be a so-so screw for 2500 rubles. But you need to be comfortable navigating the Moscow metro and be comfortable communicating in Russian, otherwise it was be a real wild goose chase.

I never drove in Moscow, but I have been riding in cars many times when the driver was flagged over. There never seems to be any sense as to why, they are just as likely to flag down a Lada as a Beemer. I have some friends who keep cash stashed inside the folder with their documenti, for the inevitable shake-down.

You're right, when confronted with law enforcement of any kind, it's best to play the part of the dumb American/tourist. It's a stereotype of which they have already persauaded themselves. Although, one of the most difficult things I've ever had to do was to pretend that I didn't speak Russian.

But you spend much more time there than I am able to, so I think your Russkii dolzhno buit sovershyenii (must be perfect).
