Personally I disagree on his (second hand) impression of Thailand. I lived in the Dominican Republic for 10 plus years. I find Thailand and Pattaya far superior due to the quality infrastructure it has and that it is an international destination that serves the wide range of visitors that arrive here. I find it curious that an individual who has never actually visited Thailand has such strong negative opinions of it. Now, if you have visited Thailand and you don't like it then I understand. But I have had half dozen friends who were fans of the Dominican Republic come to hang out with me in Thailand since I have been posted up in here and have stated without a doubt that Thailand is a superior location to the Dominican Republic.

Even in the paradise of Pattaya, there are those that find it to be hell, or at least someplace far less than ideal. I can only assume those of you with military service (thank you!) or who (like me) have extensive experience travelling the world have had ample occasions in your / our time to see the worst along with the best.
