I forgot to mention I have used Rick on a couple of occasions too and the only reason I had to find an alternative was the lack or any replies to emails. It seems I am not alone in finding this.

I even remember coming across one of the apartments I used in a couple of pics posted here which brought a smile.

had a short to moscow (just three days). First night met with a girl that i got off of Omen.ru and it went great. Dinner in Pushkin Cafe and then walk to hotel to Shag.... not the prettiest but amazing body and tight holes.....

2nd night, got a little delayed in a business meeting and afterwords, tried to find Safari lounge to no avail. ended in Oh la la strip club; loads of sharks and shit services. Ended up with a bbbj in a booth behind the strip floor for a 100 euros. was quite filthy though :-)

third night, the reliable Night flight did the job and went home with a cute ukrainian who stayed the night for $400.

I have used Moscow Rick and I will never use him again. His "renovated" apartments were in bad condition. When I realized that there were no towels in the apartment, I called him. He told me that he was at McDonalds with his daughter and he would call me later. He never did. When I asked him for a place to buy a domestic airline ticket, he gave me the name and number of the agency and the name of the woman to talk to. "Tell her Ricky told you to call," he said. I did this, and the woman said she never heard of him before. He either never returned my calls or called me back not very promptly. And some of the prices that he quoted me for services were higher than were on his website. His excuse was that he was not the person who updated the website. I would NEVER use him again.

Just back from the city of the czars and I have to agree with the fellow mongers who warned me that there's not a lot to do for foreigners who don't speak Russian. In the end I just gave it a miss.

I arrived to Moscow armed with 9 phone numbers from rusdosug of providers who - according to this site - are certified English speakers. I phoned all of them early on Saturday evening. Four of the ladies answered their phones, one of whom told me "sure honey, the prices start at 15,000 roubles for two hours" (her website said 200 dollars). I told her to go boil her head, obviously. I don't negotiate with terrorists... :) The three others told me "Sto? Nie, nie!! I... no... speak Englees". Ah well, bad luck. But... I have to confess I DO find it bloody annoying to be bamboozled by dishonest people such as those who are behind rusdosug.

Following advice by Jake I finally went to Night Flight. (OK, I also went to Hot Dog's - but only to watch Liverpool-Chelsea and receive an earful from the resident neo-n**i girl, Milla, who happened to be sitting next to me.) I guess with time I shall get used to pay prices topping 300 euros for a short time in my hotel, but... can someone PLEASE tell me if I am going crazy??? It looked to me as if almost half the "girls" at NF were clapped-out old nags who've had cosmetic surgery and botox injections. Well... some might find that attractive, but not I. :(

You made it to Moskva. Sorry to hear your trip was not a success. I agree with you about Night Flight in general, although it is possible to find a cutie in there once in a while.

Take heart, the general consensus is that prices should be coming down. In the meantime, you can brush up on your Russian.

On the Russian front I'm doing better than you think! Walking back from NF I came across a square, featuring a big statue of a short man with sideburns standing in front of a theatre building. I continued, and five minutes later my sleeve was pulled by an anxious (it was 1 am) young Russian tourist couple who wanted to know if I please, please know the way to the Pushkinskaya? I nodded reassuringly and pointed back in the direction I'd come from: "Da, da... tam!" So, you see? After a day in Moscow I was already giving the locals directions... in Russian. :)

As for the rest, well, I agree that prices will come down. The Moscow economy is a "one trick pony" which has been feeding off the resource price boom. Now the party is over. Maybe I should study some Russian? In the meantime I'm bound for Berlin next week. The prices are lower, and I speak the lingo. :)

I wouldn't bet on a sharp correction. Mind you that price of oil has dropped significantly from its high, but still trading at around the level it was back in mid-2007. And p4p wasn't exactly cheap in Moscow "way back then" either. We can all still hope though... :)

So, Priamos, why didn't you try out a salon? No Russian speaking wingman available, I guess?

As for learning Russian, I can speak from experience and guarantee that it will help you a) score more with freebies b) negotiate better with pros and c) have more fun when you're doing the deed. And those skills will help you in any economy.

C'est que... I'm not THAT much of a non-Russian speaker: For instance, on several occasions I've been communicating with Russian (erm... OK, Ukrainian and Kyrgyz) women in the hostess bars of Istanbul relying on my 100+ words of pidgin Russian. All I say is, my Russian is not good enough for phone conversations, etc. As for the salons, it's not mainly about language. I simply don't like those places. This is also how I live my everyday life in Paris - which is, frankly, depressing since Pres. Sarkozy has discontinued almost any other kind of mongering service.

I DID, however, try my luck in a striptease bar - the Platinum. The place had pretty girls, a delightfully decadent ambiance that one rarely finds in Western Europe these days, and more-than-usually enticing lap dances. - To say nothing of the fact that it was close to my hotel. But, alas, close but no cigar. :)

True, perfectly true. Though the interesting thing is what happens when you try to speak to the locals in a foreign language that they don't understand. In such diverse places as Stockholm, Tokyo and Zurich people will look exceedingly embarassed because they feel they should be able to speak foreign languages. In Moscow many people (or, this is my impression) "throw you over their right shoulder" as a non-Russian and a nuisance.

It's not [i]that[/i] bad! It's true Omen is not like mail/mamba.ru, chock full of hotties, willing to toss out prices and phone numbers at the slighest provocation. But, I sort of like that.
