I flew GOL. I called the airline to confirm my booking was done correctly. Their website is in Portuguese, and when they ask you to fill out your birthday, it doesn't say whether you should put month first or day. While I was on the phone, I also asked if I'm allowed 1 carry on plus personal item (e. G. Backpack, laptop bag). She said no, so I purchased a check in baggage option. It's only $12 each way, so not a huge deal. But when I was boarding, I noticed most passengers had a carry on plus personal item. So it seems like it IS included. Also, when I was checking in for my flight, the lady just assumed I was carrying on both my luggage and backpack.
So yea. If you're allowed a carry on, you're probably allowed a personal item. =).

On day 2 (Sunday), since everything was closed, I decided to tour the Christ the Redeemer statue. I had a good time and it was a great way to pass the time. More than the statue itself, it was fun to see how everyone's posing in front of this "sacred" statue. There was a secluded area where I was able to enjoy a little "me" time and meditate for a few minutes. If you have some down time, check it out. I paid R110 for the transfer shuttle rides plus entrance fee. Worth it!

But once you know where to go and how to book (Uber Black), why pay 4 x the amount? The only reason it was such a headache for me was because I didn't know where the Uber lounge was.
