I am planning a quick trip to Bangkok and would like a good hotel near Club Eden if possible. Any recommendations are appreciated.
I am also considering the Amari Boulevard based on friends suggestions. Any thoughts?
Thanks.

Hi,
The Majestic suites is already very popular to mongers with its many good points for mongers tourist. Personaly, this is the third time I stayed at the M. S. Since 2007 and the interesting things are the longer I travel to BKK, the more anxious to come back keep growing. It is always the same scenes, the convenience M. S. I just took the 150baht airport express bus line AE3 Sukhumvit line and voila the bus stop in front of the Landmark hotel just a 50meters from M. S. The great business friendly general manager warmly invited me a welcome drink to Bangkok and Majestic suites along with an orange juice from the front desk. I did not even receive any such greeting from any hotel I traveled through USA, in Las Vegas or any other cities in Eu. From Paris through Prague. The M. S. Is a 5+ star hotel with a price of 3 star. That is just making more sense for going to Bangkok holiday/vacation and with the vastly public transportations improvements on top of their traditional many entertainements areas, Bangkok must be in the Final four the world mongering cities championship.
I would definitely not stay at Amari since it is not GF unless you plan to stay at Eden all the time and not bring back any girls. A few popular hotels are Grand President, Grand Business Inn, Dream or S15 just to name a few.

I also stayed several times at MS, and agree that it is excellent Value for money.
However, to rate it 5 star is definitively over the top.. Small entrance, small rooms with hardly any window, no swimming pool, no real bar as such, etc..
However, it is a very friendly and decent 3 star. Highly recommended for those who are on a limited budget.
For those used to slightly higher standards, under same management, a few yards away, is majestic grande, swimming pool, several restaurants, nice rooms with views etc.. But more expensive of course.

I agree, a lot of the Majestic Suites' popularity comes from its prime mongering location but it is no where close to a five star hotel, three stars maybe. The Majestic Grande is a five star hotel but the pool could be better and I stopped staying there because they continue to charge ridiculous rates for their internet service.
This comes up a lot. There is no international "star system" standard, although there are official standards in some European countries.
In most systems, Majestic Suites would rank two or three stars, as it is small and short on services (no pool, exercise room, concierge, et cetera). It would probably be a two-star in Paris, but French ratings are based on a checklist and not on quality of presentation, ambiance, and other subjective measures.
Majestic is clean, secure (it has a doorman), well maintained, has an attractive entrance, and has a decent if small restaurant. The rooms are small, but comfortable. They have wi-fi, too, although they charge a small arm and a leg. (For some reason cheaper hotels tend to have free wi-fi, while expensive hotels rip you off.) There is only one lift, and it not something you want to share with a large person.
They do try to greet incoming guests with a soft drink, but that's not really all that unusual. I've had that service in many places around the world, even in bed/breakfast places and hostels. Generally smaller hotels are friendlier in that sort of service than larger hotels, and Majestic is quite small.
The location, as mentioned, is excellent. I like the place. I hate big cold American-style hotels.
Hi,
IMHO the Majestic suites earned my personal 5 star in term of great staff and services. I traveled to Bangkok several times for holiday/ vacation and with an extensive search for some other hotel fit better than the MS. I come up short. My star rating is just the feeling connect with the hotel warm and the familiar people eveytime I return to this hotel. I agree that the big American cold style and expensive is not for me when I only need a queen bed size just as Single superior room at the Majestic suites.
Star ratings generally refer to the amenities and services provided, rather than the quality of those services.
Because it has only a very limited Restaurant, no concierge, no pool, and no workout room, and the rooms themselves are very small, the Majestic Suites is a 2 star hotel only. But it is a very excellent 2*.

..whatever star rating we give...
The only reason for my comment was that a newbie might have been surprised when checking in, if he thought he had booked a 5 star as ususally defnied in the West.
And yes, Majestic Grande charges far too much for Internet, but they compensated by giving me some free time following some technical glitch.

I agree that Majestic Grande would be great except too expensive with the Internet charges added.
I prefer Dynasty Grande as long as I eat elsewhere.
Grand President has good rooms, internet included, and cheaper, and O.K. food, but is a bit dead.
Livingstones has free internet and good food (superb at night and adequate for breakfast) and a pool and is lively (except in the morning when most guests are still sleeping) and is cheaper than all of the above.
Hey its time I tried some new places.
To many people this isn't the main criterium, but its for me. I want to be able to sleep quietly throughout the morning, without too much noise.
Of course, no one is immune to noisy neighbours, could someone give me their opinion of generally quiet Hotels ?
Dinasty Grande was quiet, most of the time, but it become expensive, and i must choose another one, the Inn SalaDeng that i mentioned before is still a mistery, Majestic Suites has been mentioned a lot here, the prices are nice, it has Internet, but i wonder if location (in a very busy street), doesn't make him very noisy.
Are there other options ?
Thanks in advance
Montecristo
After much deliberation I have booked in the Park Plaza Sukhumvit. It comes in about 2700 baht including tax but not breakfast. There are other slightly more expensive rates that include ABF but I figure I'll be asleep at that hour anyway. All rates include wifi.

The location (close to BTS, MRT and Cowboy) looks great. I'll post a review next week.
P.S. I emailed them and they said there were no joiner fees (not sure if there is a limit of one friend though).

Montecristo[/QUOTE]You could try a suite in the Grand President, the times I have stayed there the living room has always been the 1st room you come into with the bedroom out the back I. E. Further away from the corridor. As long as you don't have a room overlooking soi 11 you'll be very quiet. Costs around 2700ish from memory. Plenty opinions and reviews on here about it.

There are many options especially if you get away from the lower Sukhumvit area but in this area for a quiet hotel I recommend Citadines on Soi 16. It’s on a quiet street with a Foodland down the street. There are Taxi Cabs outside the hotel in the daytime and Taxis run up and down the street at night. Some Taxi drivers do not know this location so print off map from the web site. They offer nice rooms, free internet with a Fitness center and pool, and not far from Soi Cowboy. Try to book from the internet and you can get the rates for as low as 1890B before tax, sometimes Asiarooms also have some lower rates for this hotel.
