While I understand the many positives of getting married, I understand that you can get many of the same positives with a girl friend, and not be tied down for a long time. Are you refering to a fiance visa from the USA?

Figure a year to acquire, if no complications. You have to meet in person, have documentation (photos of you together, letters, etc.) showing that you have known each other "for a while" (LOL, love that phrase when I'm in RP).

My experience is to let mamasan work a little. She advice me about the different girls, and of course get my selection down from stage. I am flying into Manila on May 3 at 10: 50PM. My suggestion is that you go to your bank in USA and get them to order P 5000, which is about $ 110. 00.

This will atleast get you to hotel. The last time I was there in February I did this and went outside where taxis are. NOW be very careful who you use. The best ones to use is at waiting area. You will see an area that has letters hanging where you meet your party. To the right is Taxi stand where a man will be behind desk. Tell him where you want to go. And arrangements are done. I advice you NOT to use taxi on street at airport for you problably would be ok but risk of robbery is higher. Heard some freaked out stories on this. Just like anywhere else use common sense and be aware of your surroundngs. Good advice is when you get in taxi pretend to make a cell phone call to friend telling him your here and your in taxi (name) (plate #) and driver. Pretty sure you will then get to where you need to go. My advice is not deal with money exchange in airport. My idea is get in to airport and out ASAP! Its bad enough we arrive late. I want to see girls within 2 hours. One in my bed by 3 hours.

Also most hotels will exchange to but just do enough for the night mongering. Next day you can hit exchange place. If you are arriving on the 3rd let me know. Gumby, you aren't a newbie if you've been to PI twice already. Although your handle sounds familiar, I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you are a newbie at ISG ...hope you'll be posting more after your trip.

How many flights arrive after 11pm? I've used NWA a few times and arrived at 11:05....or after a delay -- midnight. I found money exchanges open at that time, and they will sell you LOAD. I doubt that they have SIM, but you could ask. Let us know what you find out.

I've gone upstairs and I've even walked out to the road. If you luggage is light, go for it. Nevertheless, that late at night, it might be better to pay double....think of it as insurance. You'll be in a nice car and the driver typically can give you information. It's worth the extr price if you are a NEWBIE.

As much as I hate taxi drivers, I always talk to them. They may (or may not) provide you with good information. If you meet a driver from the airport that seems like a good guy, ask for his number -- preferablly when he isn't driving.

If I'm not mistaken there is a phone number written on (the back? of? ) many taxis which is a number at which you can make a complaint.

I have that number in my phone.

As for taxis, what is the strategy of other ISG members IN MANILA??? I typically open the door and ask for meter. If taxis are plentiful, I also ask that they don't honk their horn. I often tip well for those who don't honk and don't try to run over pedestirans....telling them why I've tipped them.

THe last two trips to Manila, on my way to the airport, I've had drivers turn right from Roxas into the cultural complex. In response to, "what the fuck are you doing", they both said, "avoiding traffic". There was no traffic and I ordered them to run around. They did.

Did I mention that I hate taxi drivers?

1. You can get a sim card at one of the shops on the lower floor where people wait for arrivals.

2. I always take a taxi from the departure level outside. They usually put the meter on although sometimes they ask for something extra. Even if you pay 20 pesos more still a good bargain. Taxi is quite safe at any time in Manila.

I took the taxi from the departure level a few weeks ago, my first trip to the Philippines. I would recommend picking a nicer looking car. I got in the first taxi, and it was beat up, and the guy didn't know where my hotel was. (My fault as well too, since I didn't have the printout with the address) I

Stayed at the Cherry Blossoms in Ermita since Saturday. Excellent location as per my report in the Manila Hotels section.

My usual money changer was closed when I came in, so had to try another on Mabini. Fucking lady came in and tried to give me 99 100peso notes for a 9900 peso exchange. I just smelled the scam and walked out. Next door place was no problem.

LA Cafe was same same. The second floor still doesn't have the same crowd and bounce as it once had. The pool tables have been redone and play like crap - crooked as a politician. The first floor is the same meat market it ever was... just pick and play and pay. I had a few nice take-outs.

There is a nice new Internet cafe open right next to LA Cafe called Ecafe. Nice new PCs and very well lit. Very convenient. Enjoy Manila, AR+
