Many Thai girls in the game were previously sufferring economic hardship. One girl, whose father had died, was doing straight massage outside Bangkok and earning 50 Baht per massage session with maybe the odd 20 Baht tip. Real Thai massage is hard work. She managed to make about 4-5K per month, or just 150 Baht per day (perhaps that was after paying for something to eat). After you pay a share of the rent, transport, and eat, there is nothing left to help support her mother etc. So while not literally "forced" into prostitution, the lure of making more than 10 times as much money per month is too great.
I would certainly sell my body to women if I was going to earn several times my current salary. No question about it! Its merely that we don't have this option. Some Thai girls, who have serious moral issues, do not go for prostitution, but put up with their measly monthly wage and suffer great hardship. Others are just not good looking enough to be able to sell their bodies successfully.

I'm visiting Bangkok in June for about three weeks, and I'm looking for an apartment (can't afford a hotel for that long, and prefer the freedom). Somewhere with good facilities and security guards with excellent selective blindness skills, able to take an I'd card while looking the other way. Central location would be nice. If anyone has any recommendations, whether for specific apartments, residences or agencies, I'd be very grateful.

I had to book something in a rush and I booked this one on wotif in 90 seconds. I thought it was the one by the same name in Asok, I made a mistake, it's actually the one close to Nana, which is more downmarket.
I had a basic room for about 1500 bath, having seen the basic room at the Asok Furama, I thought it was a good deal, but over there it isn't.
I wouldn't recommend the place. The room feels a bit too basic-cheap, although at night with the lights dimmed it's alright. It's deep within the soi. It is fairly close to Nana though. And free internet. But there are better places out there.
I'm trying the AP today. I have mixed feelings about it.
Pros: Nice rooftop pool. Nice staff. Somewhat cheap with a special deal. 1850 a night for a Premier Studio (their bigger studio at 38 sqm). Close to Cowboy. Close to both BTS and MRT Asoke-Sukhumvit stations.
Cons: Low floors with special deal. Upgrades too expensive (4K a day, no thank you). Your "balcony" is useless. Views are crap.
Most awful though, there are NO MIRRORS in those rooms. There is a mirror as big as my torso hung high in the room. No other mirror except in the bathroom. So if you are a visual person like me, you won't get to see much of your action here. I've stayed in much cheaper rooms that all had a full length mirror on a closet door or something. Not here. This for me disqualifies the place for mongering purposes.
Beware than on latestays. Com, the price you see isn't the price you'll pay. I booked the Admiral for 1550 a night and ended up paying 1850 after they added some "taxes" and whatever. I didn't look into it too much because I needed to get going; but I'm not a fan of this kind of practices. On Wotif they don't fuck around like that.
so...which hotels with mirrors do you recommend? we had this question asked before in this thread but not many answers.
i can vouch for the grand millenium which has a huge mirror by the side of the bed. floor to ceiling. angle isn't the best because from the bed you see nothing. but you have a lot of room and a nice sofa in front of the mirror.
i hear the peep inn on soi23 has lots of mirrors, but that's a st hotel.

For me, you'd have to be clueless to book any of these sites, because you need to prepay everything upfront.
Booking. Com does not ask you for money upfront and you just need a credit card to guarantee the booking. Prices are the same as all other major sites so no surcharge.

Expedia is horrible IMHO as I have bad experiences. To receive local services you have to book thru their local branch. If you book thru their US site, then if you have problems locally you are SOL.
Another site with no prepay is Asia Travel. No pre-pay is best as there is no penalty if plans change at last minute.

[/QUOTE]This was exactly my reaction when I first checked into AP in February. I had made reservations for one of the Grand Suites (55sq meters) and I specifically requested a high floor. They gave me a Grand Suite on the 2nd floor with a beautiful view of a Condo parking lot a few feet away. I complained politely at check in, but was told there was nothing they could do because they were booked solid. I put up with it for 5 days, but I did not like the room even though everything else about the hotel was fine. Free WiFi and complimentary breakfasts were a plus. The room was spacious and I liked having an entertainment room that was separate from the bed room. The view from the windows was depressing however, like a basement apartment. I kept the curtains drawn.
I went to Phnom Penh and Kampot for a week while storing my big suitcase with AP. In Penh, I thought about canceling my 2nd reservation with AP, but I did not. Upon my return to BKK, I was informed at check in, that I was being given a complimentary upgrade to the Admiral Suite (the largest suite) and it was on the 6th floor. The higher floor made a big difference. The studio seemed brighter and more airy. I kept the curtains open. The sliding glass door onto the balcony had screens, which is a very big deal. At night, I slept with the windows open, no bugs. In addition, in the bigger bathroom which had a separate bath tub (good for playtime with the girls); there was a washing machine.

The bad views on the lower floors were a big deal. Otherwise, I liked the hotel a lot. Next trip, I will make my reservations with Admiral Premier contingent on getting a room on a high floor. If AP cannot guarantee a high floor, I will go elsewhere.
Note: I believe only the Admiral Suites (65 sq meters) face the street and all other rooms face the Condo. So your view will suck unless you reserve the Admiral Suite. You guys can confirm this or not. Thanks.
I was upgraded to the 4th floor after complaining about the 2d floor. The view sucks a little bit less. It still sucks though.
Got to love that pool though.

[/QUOTE]For various complicated reasons I mostly use Agoda (credit card statement does not name hotel or location and price appears in GBP) , plus they are normally amongst the cheapest. When I have rarely had to change plans they have been exceptionally helpful, either by email or helpline.
