Retired Army, Phantomtiger2 and Rikusa, thanks for your help! I'll start working on the Thai numbers. Besides the basic, hello, goodby thank you, no thank you, here's the list of what I have put together so far.

You are very beautiful = Koon suay mak
You are very cute = Koon na-rak mak
Your eyes are so beautiful = Duang dtar kong koon suay mak
I like your smile = Pom chorp roi yim kong koon

How much = Tao rai
Too expensive = Pang mak

These last two will be good additions to my list. I'd like to be able to follow these up with "I have a small dick" or something that roughly translates to "too much money for such a small dick" I figure that will be good for a laugh and get them to start moving the price down. If there is anyone here who speaks thai and can bang out this phrase for me I would appreciate it. I've searched the Net for the last 2 weeks. Apparently no one felt this phrase was worth including in their "how to speak thai" website.

Ok, I'll bite. What's it mean? If I had to guess it says something to the affect of "I like ladyboy". I hope boom-poy means to "to fuck" and not "to fuck me".

I would suggest more appropriate for vendors along Sukhumvit is:
"Mai ao" (pronounced kind've like 'ow, I hurt myself') which translates to:
'general negative' 'want' = no want = I don't want it

or

If you want to talk to them, then better to be more polite.

"Mai chawp katoey" ( I don't like ladyboys) is not appropriate at all since no-one asked you if you liked lady boys.

Again "Mai Ao" covers all, when accosted by a ladyboy.

It is certainly impolite to mention that they may be a ladyboy.

I am probably not so polite, since I can't be bothered to answer every person that accosts me on the side-walk. I just ignore them.

If I like the girl who says "pai dooay" (I go with you), she might get a smile out of me or perhaps a polite refusal. I can't afford to be seen walking or talking with street walkers.

Will be arriving in BKK the next few days and would be interested to read your current thinking on where to get a real haircut (as in decent stylist, manicure, pedicure..), followed by massage, and, if the need arises, 'take out' or 'have in' FS. Curious as to the gems of feedback you'll provide. Any decent hair-dressers near you providing a bit of the old slap and tickle as well?

Just want to spoil myself before returning to frozen Siberia.

Well, both the Four Seasons and the Dusit Thani provide gentlemens haircuts and wet shaves with a blade. Although the hotels are expensive, the grooming is not - 300 baht or so.

For other services, you might have to change shop. Yet it may be worth while: searching the forum will confirm that TGs like neat and groomed chaps, so the extra effort might yield better treatment.

I have yet to find a place that offers grooming that does not leave you look like riff-raff *and* offers other more ... services.

Sad Sam,

Most girls will do ST only. They usually ask for 1700 baht if your hotel is close by otherwise 1500 baht plus 500 baht for a short time hotel. Most girls don't speak much english there and there a some that have a thai guy or woman as a pimp. Price is still the same if you use them for a recommendation. When you take a cab, make sure you tell him Siam Hotel on Petchaburi. Also there are usually some girls in the hotel coffee shop and usually around a hundred up front up and down that street. If the girls are not there, you need to walk around the long block because the girls are all on the backside of the hotel.

One last thing, if you do take a girl to your room, you need to be very careful because some of them are thieves. Make sure everything is locked up and make sure you take your stuff in the restroom with you if you take a shower. One girl stole my friend's cell phone because he is thai and didn't think she was going to rip him off.

I know you need to be extra careful with freelancers since you can't go back to the bar they work at to complain if you have a problem. But why are most freelancers freelancers? Are they typcially less attractive, do the bars refuse to hire them because they have issues (drugs, alcohol, emotional). Are freelancers just part timers, or are they just trying to make an extra buck by cutting out the middle man?

I know there are probably some freelancers out there who can answer yes to any and all of these but for those of you who have had significant experience with them and have talked with them, what's your opinion? Is there a common thread among the freelancers that seperates them from the girls that work in the bars?

Horntoad, that is the Siam Hotel on 177 New Petchburi Rd, near Mona Lisa ([url]http://www.thaihotels.org/siamhotel.html[/url])?

It has been a while since I have been on Petchburi Rd, I did like that the MPs (fond memories of Embassy, not so much of Mona Lisa) were catering to locals and the girls were less pushy and more courteous than your average Sukhumvit girl. Who does the Siam hotel cater for - Thai, Asians, Faran? Did you ever stay there?
