Hotelscombined looks like a great site. My credit card actually found me and I have made a booking for the 30th to the 9th. Now I'm wondering the best way to get to Pattya from DMK. I'll land at 1:30 am. Taking a taxi is the only way at that time, but getting to the hotel around 4:30 doesn't help me much. I'm not due to check in until later. Maybe wait around the airport awhile and then go to ekami for a bus. Either way, on my way. It's great to have this site.

Planning a BKK / Pattaya trip in end Feb early March. Am a first timer in Thailand and looking to make it 2 days in BKK and 3 in Pattaya on a mongering trip. Wanted some info on a Pattaya hotel with jacuzzi / private pool, a balcony, maybe some mirrors and good access to pickup joints. I would like to avoid public transport or walking long distance (have a problem there). How readily are cabs (I think they are called tuk tuks) available? I have gone thru the posts here but still would like to know if there is a broad consensus as to which are the mid to upscale pickup joints in Pattaya

In Bangkok, public transport (Skytrain, Metro or riverboats) is actually quite good and cheap, but you cannot reach all parts of town with it. Forget about the tuk-tuks (three-wheeled contraptions - [url]http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20120506124404/happywheels/images/4/40/Tuktuk.jpg[/url]) in Bangkok, unless you know the prices and distances they will fleece you and show you all suit-shops and gem-factories of the city. Take any of the metered taxis and always (I repeat "ALWAYS") insist on using the taxi-meter. They are actually cheaper (but slower) than tuk-tuks. If you take a hotel between Nana and Soi Cowboy, you will not even need any taxis and can walk the few hundred meters yourself.
In Pattaya, the only option is to use the semi-public "Songthaew" pick-ups ([url]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Songthaew[/url]). They run fixed routes and cost 10 bath whatever the distance. There are taxis, unmetered so be prepared to negotiate the price beforehand. There may be some tuk-tuks, but I never used them.

All taxis (and there are plenty) in Bangkok are metered, but if you are a farang (western tourist) they try to "fix" a price with you rather than use the meter. Just resist, ask for "meter please" and keep smiling. Sometimes taxis that are waiting in front of hotels refuse to use the meter. Then don't get in the taxi and take the next one.
Smiling is important in Thailand. Always keep smiling and never shout.
Indeed, Pattaya is not known for its big choice in transport. But it does have a big choice in girls and that is what counts. ;)

I've been a regular visitor to Pattaya for a while. Haven't reported because Pattaya is what it is. Not hard to navigate at all, more info than you could ever want already out there, etc. But ran into a new roadblock and have no idea how to get over it.
Saw a guy in my hotel a few days ago having problems trying to bring a girl up that he met at a beer bar. She was 19, hotel staff insisted they have to be 20 or older to bring into your room. Wouldn't even accept a bribe.
Well wouldn't you know that I met a regular girl working at the mall who is 18 soon after. Saw her I'd, age is legit. Above the age of consent in Thailand, not a bar girl, but I don't expect any hotel to believe me when I tell them she isn't. Does anyone know anything about this 20+ rule or how / if I can somehow get around it?

Lime green in color if I remember right. See them every morning lined up getting polished right on 2nd Road in front of Villa Market.
As to metered? Haven't a clue!

They are in the front and back of Royal Garden, in front of Tuckom and Friendship supermarket. None of them will use their meter though. The drivers will quote you an outrageous price and you have to negotiate but generally they won't go anywhere for under 100 baht.

You forgot to mention the Moto-sai taxis. Ie Motorbike taxis. These can be VERY convenient and inexpensive when you want to get somewhere fast. Ducking in an out of traffic and a short cut through traffic jams. Soi Cowboy to Nana should be roughly 60 baht depending on your nego skills/

But they are indeed the fastest way to travel in Bangkok.
I will be visiting for the first time in June I plan on spending four or five days in Bangkok and then two weeks in Pattaya. While in Pattaya I was thinking of staying in either the 3some bar and guesthouse [url]http://www.3sompattaya.com/[/url] Or the queen Victoria inn [url]www.queenvicpattaya.com/[/url] I was just going to rent the budget room at either place. I am open to suggestions however, does anyone have any experiences with either of these places or can anyone suggest something better in a modest price range.

I have stayed at the Queen Vic a number of times. It is smack in the middle of Soi 6. Just walk out the front door and there she blows. I had no issues from any of the times I had stayed there. There is no elevator if that is of an issue for you.
