I vacationed here for over a 4 year period before moving here
Good advice, numerous medical doctors offices (clinics) in DR, that most foreigners would not believe are expensive, a visit to a doctor, basic exam 1000 ($27US) to 2000 ($54US) pesos.
Imodium can be useful on an airplane, also generally don't want to be sitting on the bowl when you are paying for some pro (sitting on the bowl will give a chica more time alone to potentially look through a guy's stuff).
Symptoms of Cholera include diarrhea. Do you know how they test for and treat Cholera in the DR for adults (and prices for the tests or treatments)? Thanks
And never got Montezuma's revenge that worries you so much. To be safe, don't eat food off the street unless the food handler has a way of handling food that is sanitary. Chances are he pissed out back someplace and has not washed his hands. Cholera is pretty much isolated in areas where there is no plumbing. Chances of getting it are close to zero unless you go grovelling in the worst of barrios. Medical care is cheap here, and if you want a drug for just about anything, you can buy it without a prescription.
