What I have read about him is that he is bisexual.

He was married and have had affairs with both sexes. Why he was labeled as homosexual is that his affairs with male partners were openly discussed in a court case against him forb having an affair with a young boy of noble decent. Went to the famous spa looking for the girl who used to give a shower but unfortunetly the management has sacked her few months ago.
