I've found a way to circumvent the problem most of the time. I merely book on PAL. The service is better, with far less hassle and the mileage program is unbeatable.
I have read about the Parklane, Marriot, etc.
Can people list the names of decent hotels up to Western standards that won't have a friggin cow when I bring a girl back?
I feel the need to be able to make a trip report first hand.
Thanks guys!
Marriott. Shangri Lah Mactan is not GF unless you check in with her.

The Marriot is girl friendly. Nice, nice hotel. I stayed there in May had no problems. Hell the large breasted Filipina I grabbed from one of the nightclubs was very impressed with the place.

Agreed. Marriott is great. Took many girls back there when I was staying no hassles
Sopwith,
I have been staying at Ford's Inn. It is a bit away from the city center, maybe an extra 5 mins by taxi. I have a brand new room, aircon, cable, fridge. Cost is about 1600 pesos. Very good value.
G
Hi Gangles,
Is this the Ford's Inn you are talking about?

Has anybody else tried this place?

Stayed at the Marriott many, many times including three stays so far this year, the last was about a month back. Each trip I have taken girls back for the night or afternoon and I have never ever had any issue for the Hotel.
My only problem with the Marriott is the renovation which is currently taking place. This does not affect the guest rooms but as previously posted, the lifts to the guest floors are now from/to the basement and not the ground floor. Additionally, the pool and the pool area, including the bar, are closed and are scheduled to remain closed until 31Dec08.
If it was not for the above I would happily stop there this weekend, indeed may still do so.
waffles, i have stayed there in last two months. i had a corner room: excellent.
while the hotel has not been finished on the uppermost floors i was on the 17th floor and there was no construction noise. however there was a bit of sandpaper left on the windowsill, and some grotty windows that need cleaning: nonetheless, views were still good.
bathroom fine and excellent new tv in room, with cable channels. good drapes, and a nice table and chairs if i recall.
hotel service was fine. the hotel had an occupancy rate of 55 per cent while i was there which is nothing great but it is a new hotel, and will take a while to become 'known.' gf as far as i could see though i was with my special friend.
Is it preferable to book a standard or superior room at the Richmond Plaza? It appears the standard (double) is a queen or king bed and, of course the room is small. The superior (double) appears to have two beds rather than one bed. Can anyone help me out here based on your experience and knowledg?
Thanks, guys!
Hi all,
Thanks to Xman for providing me info. But I think I'll ask the "group" for opinions, also.
Regarding the Richmond Hotel in Cebu. I'm trying to decide whether to book a standard room (I assume I'll have to book a doubler regardless of a standard of a Superior) or to book a Superior room. For a double Std it is 1050 pesos and for a. Double Superior it is 1500 pesos. Anyone with experience staying here. Do you suggest a superior room rather than a standard room?
Also, do you know what their cancellaton policy is?
I"d like to go to Cebu for about 8 days, but in the middle of that time also explore some other places from Cebu for a few of those days and nights. So don't know if I should book the whole thing for all 8 days and chance being able to cancel some. Or just book like the first two days arriving and a day departing and take my chances with the rest of those days.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
It's not the room, it's who helps you dirty the sheets.

Thanks
Book for the 8 days. That decreases your stress level. Tell them you want a room with one big bed (matrimonial they call it). If you have the funds, spend the extra to be comfy. Now, Cebu is not that big, and Cebu City is the central point, so is relatively easy to visit other places on the island, but the "city" is where the mongering spots are. If you want to stay at another place, check out early, just tell them you have an emergency and must leave. You pay your bill at the end of you stay anyway, not before. When that happens, I've never heard of any problem being charged for extra nights when you reserved for 7 or 8 but had to leave after 3 or 4. Lots of guys want to be near the airport (Mactan island) for their last night anyway.
Well, I've been reading about all the problems with using credit cards to book online. I tried booking PAL from SF to Manila and two cards were rejected. A Mastercard and Visa.
I called PAL and they said something about an authentification thing and lots of people are calling in and complaining and that I needed to call them and book with the agent and then they'd sent some email containing something I have to sign and fax back in and then they'd give me the internet rate.
WTF? I've never had a problem with my credit cards before. ! They need to do something about this. It doesn't appear to be a "Mastercard" or "Visa" thing.
Anything that can be done or that I should do?

Did you try alerting your credit card companies, in advance, that you were taking a trip to the Philippines? Their fraud prevention algorithms often block transactions which are not consistent with your typical charging pattern.

You might be able to get a real close quote that you get online by going through a bucket shop in the US. I've used Cost Less Travel in San Francisco, and you can pretty much do it on the phone with some email and faxing. Their prices are sometimes better than what I've seen on individual airlines' websites and definitely better than big travel websites like Expedia.
For a long time, PAL have had a policy of not taking online bookings. I don't know why, and nobody else can explain it.
Good luck,
Gangles
