Went to the "medical clinic" on soi Bukao for STD tests, a stone's throw from the hospital, at the crossing from the road leading to Centara Hotel. They're open every day from 8 am till 8 pm. Blood test for HIV, oral for chlamydia and ghonorrhea. Immediate results. They ask for your passport upfront though.

My girl is happy with 2000 a day. Hotel (Gandview Hideaway Resort) 60 euros a day non refundable but good value. Clean beach, the closest to a dream holiday so far for me in Thailand. One hour bus ride + one hour on the ferry 500 bahts per person. If you want sex you have to bring your own but it is worth it. Pattaya pales in comparison.

In high season there may be more girls (although nobody ever did a count), but there are certainly much more punters, so in the low season the girl-to-punter ration may actually be better.

Just a question out of curiosity which Pattaya regulars or Mr E would be able to answer. Reading this forum I get the impression that certain ethnic groups are banned from entering some gogos and bars for a myriad of reasons. Does that mean those disappointed punters who can't get to bang a Thai hooker effectively return home with blue balls? And if so, why do they keep coming to Pattaya? Surely word would have got around by now that they are not welcome.

The attached article indicates that tourist numbers are increasing from that particular ethnic group each year (although not all are sex tourists). If there was such overt racism in Thailand, why are there a million of them arriving each year?

These chaps would then make it a point to get to LOS one way or another. And when this chain of events is set off in perpetuity, keeping in mind the humongous population, the outcome is easily conceivable. A visitor count of 1 million is a drop in the proverbial bucket. Here, I must punctuate my comments by adding that instances of racial abuse that these fellows have been met with, during their visit to LOS, tend to get brushed under the carpet to a large extent while they are narrating their tales of conquests to their captive audience, who have never been. Also, I'd tend to think that if you are rejected at any joint, you'd not go around glorifying it. Who ever said that they got their ass handed to them? Having said so, make no mistake that LOS does offer quite a few other non-Thai options to these weary souls and even Thai ones for that matter, think - oilies, soapies, BR etc. and that too at low prices in comparison to certain western and middle eastern countries. This remains a big attraction. Despite the rising costs, LOS remains one of the best destinations for hobbying for a bargain punter. Also, truth be told, things have been made VERY easy by VoA offered by Thailand. Believe you me, the donkey work involved for most of these frequent travellers to LOS, were they to even try getting to western shores, would render them both ineligible and ill-equipped to do so as they would neither have the financial means nor the background paperwork etc. to accomplish this 'gargantuan' task. If we have to be brutally honest, many such guys would not be in a position to fill out the visa form required for many developed countries and would have to seek professional help. Hence, the west remains utopia for many such travellers, who, under such circumstances, choose the path of least resistance. This brings me to my third point that, from a budgetary perspective, cheap flights and hotels only add fuel to the fire. There are not many capital cities in the world where you can find a decent 4-5 star hotel in the ballpark of 100 USD and if a flight to Bkk, from some parts of the country, costs almost the same as certain long distance domestic ones, it becomes a very tempting proposition. Now, it would be remiss of me not to mention, as you already have, that many such travellers are routine tourists and honeymooners as LOS has emerged as a big tourist attraction. You'd find many newlyweds on WS, which, quite frankly, I find distasteful. Talk about carrying coals to Newcastle! However, the attraction for any regular tourist or a hobbyist is going to be alike when it comes to the economics of travelling and staying in Thailand. Also, not to discount the fact that having travelled internationally and that stamp, albeit of Thailand VoA, on his, otherwise, virgin passport would give such an individual one more thing to boast about and would, thus, be an added incentive. Lemme also add that the kind of freedom and open opportunity to hobby that LOS offers is most certainly not available to these guys back home. To complement my point, lemme cite an example of a popular Bollywood movie in which a cop catches a couple of horny seniors and mistakenly thinks that they are soliciting a girl on the street. After accepting bribe to let them loose, he offers them free advice that if they were so desperate to get laid, they should go to Bkk as they would have difficulty scoring back home. Further, in the movie, one of the protagonists makes a remarks along the lines of that their home city was no longer safe for hobbying and they should instead go to the capital of debauchery - Bkk, where 50 chicks can be found at every 500 meters. So, this is the image of Bkk, as portrayed in mainstream films. Make what you will of it. All this is my personal opinion based on what I have witnessed during my visits as also discussions with several other people on the subject and is not meant as a statement of fact. Of course, I am sensitive to the fact that any guy, who is a victim of racial abuse, would tend to narrate such instances to his friends etc. All I meant was that such episodes, rather than being dwelled upon at length or being the primary subject matter of discussion, tend to be mentioned in a more 'by the way' sorta manner and the narrative tends to be somewhat colored. Atleast, this is what I have been able to gather. Having said so, there is no denying that such stories of racial mistreatment abound.
