Hey guys,
I am taking a friend to Sosua from Oct. 5th to the 10th. I'm just wondering is this a bad time to go? I haven't been to the DR since 2009. And also will there be a nice amount of chicas to choose from?
Agree with the warning about hurricane season. But even if you don't have a full blow hurricane, it can rain a lot. And the tropical pattern of rain is sunny mornings, slowly transforming to rain in the late afternoon and early evening. This can put a damper on your evening plans. Nothing like being at an outdoor when it suddenly starts to pour. EVeryone runs for cover somewhere, and sometimes don't congregate again.
If you are stuck for that week of travel, may I recommend the ABC islands? Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao. They are off the coast of Venezuela and outside of the hurricane zone. It has equatorial weather that is almost the same sunny, rains but not as much as the Carribean, all year round. Its very reliable. If I feel the need for some island "fun" in Sept-Nov, that's where I go.
Of course, your trip to the DR may go just fine. But if you want more of a sure thing, I would recommend ABC.
In regards to the chicas, I imagine nothing would change, since they live there.
There are obviously chicas there, but if there are putas too, be careful, you might be in for an invasion.
I should clarify. There will definitely be chicas in the DR, regardless of weather, because they obviously live there.
At ABC, there may be some variation based on the season. Because even if they don't have hurricanes, I think that tourism volume definitely goes down all over the Carribean in the summer, so the chica population may go down in the summer, though I suspect not as much as in the upper Carribean. I was speaking mostly about the weather.

Thanks. (Thought you were talking about chicas in ABC)
So, while we are on the subject, any good mongering in ABC?

So, while we are on the subject, any good mongering in ABC?
All three places used to be great up until about 4-5 years ago, but have since undergone a rapid decline. Curacao, especially, was legendary. As recently as 5 years ago, I would have said top ten in the world.
But for reasons that remain mysterious, all three have declined, below the party potential in the DR in my opinion.
I guess it depends on how you like to travel. If punting is your primary purpose, than there are definitely better places. But if you enjoy travelling to different places, being a tourist, accumulating stamps in your passport, and in the evening partaking, then ABC makes an excellent diversion.
Despite the punting decline, ABC remains a great destination for general travel. The beaches in most of Aruba are superior to those in DR, and with a much more developed (aka wealthy) tourism infrastructure. Nice restaurants and hotels. No slumming here. Bonaire is a world class diving destination, as in Top 20 in the world period. Bonaire has no other industries. It has very few nice beaches. But it STILL does reasonably well in tourism based solely on diving. That's how good it is.
Curacao is the island that's the most difficult to defend on a tourism standpoint. Yeah, its mainly for punting. The ABC islands are former Dutch colonies, so the laws are similar to those in Amsterdam (except for the drugs). The girls in ABC are mostly Colombian and fly there to staff bars. They don't live there, so the livliness in the scene can depend on whether the girls choose to work there. That depends on lots of things, the level of general tourism traffic being the primary indicator. If you have ever been to SXM, its very similar, though a notch down in overall quality. Are.
If you have never gone, and want to try something different, its a good alternative. Aruba has a zillion direct flights from the US. From there, you can travel direct to Bonaire and Curacao on one of those little Carribean airlines for cheap. The three islands are close together..

I spent a day in Aruba, and a day in Anguilla plus some other ports, I was on a cruise with my wife and in those days, it was all foreign to me, and me to them.
I never thought I would be so at home and natural with people in the Caribbean, but I guess it was always my dream. Now I'm ok sharing their little houses with lots of family and bringing my water up from the street for a shower (get it the night before so it has a chance to warm up a bit).
I live alone, and am a frequent traveler, and I always used to forget something if I was in a hurry packing.
I now have a computer list that contains everything I might need on my trip, and nothing more.
Things like a charger, a pen for all the forms, even a toothpick can be handy on a plane. Spare pair of old glasses just in case. Pick up some extra forms as you go through customs, you can fill them in before you travel.
A glance at the list a few days before might remind you to get a haircut, get some USA Small bills from the bank. Wash or replace those tattered shorts.
Also stuff to do at home before I leave like water the plant, take out the garbage, turn the thermostat up or down, clean out the old crap from the fridge.
That sort of thing.
Obsessive? Or just being practical.
I have a list saved on my computer also, I can't imagine packing for a trip without it. In addition to items to pack, things to do like hold my mail and call my card companies and advise them of my travel plans, etc.

Train your inind. It's a terrible thing to waste. As you get older. Use it or lose it governs how the billions of neuronal connections in massively parallel processing help you stay young and act young, and be young, in our current existence.
May be more than you asked for,. So sorry in advance for being out of line.

Sorry guys!
Been reading the stuff here for about 18 months now. Sosua is difficult to beat for its choices!
1. Rumba and Classicos and a few other places.
2. Good restaurants (eg Baileys) and USA Sports on TV (unlike in Cuba, Brasil, Thailand, Germany etc.). But a diverse expat community of US, Canadians, Germans, Italians, French etc.
3. Beaches (Sosua, Playa Alicia, Playa Cabarete, Playa Costambar (Puerto Plata) and playas in the all inclusive Playa Dorada resorts and all inclusive Lifefstyle resorts (Playa Cofresi for example) and BB for a more spoon fed option.
4. Everything in Sosua within walking distance (you won't find this most other places except Pattaya) including Great Supermarket in Sosua within WALKING distance of most hotels, with beer full choice of liquor, wine, cigars, prepared foods and just about everything you'd find in a USA Supermarket. Etc for less than in the US, including pharmacies etc. . Not so in Cuba or Thailand or Brazil and the option to enjoy local and US music in a place like Classicos until 2 am.
5. Chicas aplenty. But poor quality if you focus solely on Sosua pros.
6. Put in the effort for at least a month before you arrive on Facebook and other paid and free dating sites and collect at least 50 quality phone numbers of Chicas you are OK with, at least in the photos, and then find the 3-5 you like, are there for you and like being with you 24*7 for at least 2-3 days each.
I have focused solely on Chicas who live outside of Sosua and have had 90 plus percent positive outcomes. But if you are in purely for sport, and quantity vs quality and not interested in the Chicas besides their body (ie like to get to know them and hang with them and be nice to them, bring them stuff, never discuss dineros ahead of time (and avoid those are into dineros negotiation) then you will truly realize what you have in the PP region of the DR that you are unlikely to find elsewhere (and yes David, it is better than Peru, the Philippines or Thailand), given other issues and limiting factors for those desiring of being closer to home and with the ability to be in the local culture and in the USA Culture at the same time. In the same location! Of course, the physical aspects of the Chicas are not the same, so this only applies to those dudes who are wanting to go beyond the purely physical attributes of the Chicas.
These points of view are based on having spent over 100 total days over 5-6 trips to the Puerto Plata area. And, only a sum total of only 3-4 Chica experiences from the Sousa spots. None of which were worthy of note. Only the ones outside of Sosua. ,from Montellanos, Puerto Plata, Imbert, Luperon, Santiago, Higuey etc. Were ones that I liked. And will focus on again on my next trip.
FWIW, compared to say 10 years ago in Brasil, Thailand or the Philippines, there are truly nice non pro and semi pros you can discover in the NE coast of the DR than you will in most other spots in August 2015. My 2 cents. Take it for what it's worth or just read it and take a pass.
Just wanted to provide an additional POV. The only place with some of the same attributes IMO is Pattaya. And Pattaya has the best regular massage places on the planet. But, it's a long ways off and will take more time and effort to navigate. But the nightclub scene and organized Chica scene is bigger by factor of 10 or more. Philippines would come after Thailand in the order of things IMO.
I find the DR truly special. FWIW. And there are really, really special Chicas to be found. But please do not fall for them. It won't work!
But the ultimate beauties IMO are still in Brazil ( outside of Rio, in Sao Paulo, Curitiba, Belo Horizonte, Ceara etc. ) ..and if the Real goes from 3.5 now to over 4 and closer to 5 ( given political instability, political risk for money flows into Brazil and the commodity price crash due to China slowing down) then and only then will I prefer Brazil over the Pto PTA area.....but to be sure this is only one guys POV and I am not claiming or aspiring to be any kind of authority here...just wanting to share my POV and my experiences on a relative basis ( as Einstein may say. .. And yes he married his cousin )!
Speak for yourself. I do not imagine any other of our gentlemen members have any tattered shorts. If still wearable we pass them on to our house-servants.
With all due respect, I detest your use of the notion and the mind set of ' servants'. Completely unacceptable in my view!
WTF? It is 2015.
Your skin color may not, but you better start toning down the way you dress, and accessorize.
Huh? Have you seen the multitude of Bros at Classicos with the white towels hanging on their shoulders! I bet the people in the DR (there are a few regular folks who come there) find that outrageous and uncool.
Exactly. Any advice offered is only notionally addressed to the OP, but is just in the nature of an open discussion that may be enjoyed by many lurkers who never contribute a word.
Quite True. Frannie!

And yes, I just awoke from my hibernation. Hence the multitude of posts. Post my recent awakening! Anyway, it's all Frannie's fault!
