It is not a lot to ask.
Mr. E. and Gogo have already PM'd me to say that they are in. I am sure I can count on Oakie and Pooter too, so we are already half way to the target.
Count me out.
My chica needs a blood transfusion, and braces.
You don't seem to understand the difference between a "tout", or a "shill", "I don't have to work, I make money by being me". Steering business to his sources of influence or income.
and, a poster here who is offering opinions and advice out of a genuine interest and regard for our hobby, mongering and, in my case, Sosua.
Getting deported from several countries, and arrested at airports, finishing up in jail, begging for a W.U. handout, hardly qualifies him as a successful blogger.
I think it should be a warning, rather than just a hard luck story about a nice guy who just happens to meet intolerant corrupt cops and politicians.
(just my opinion)
Yes, Oakie, I understand what a "tout" or "shil" is, but frankly, that's what a lot of "legitimate" travel writers are.
(Let me stay at your hotel free, and I'll write a great article about it).
Comments like: "I don't have to work, I make money by being me" are braggadocio, but that's essentially what some bloggers do.
There are some lucky buggers out there, (easy to find online) that make money blogging via the content, marketing E-books, people who put adverts on their site, etc.
Check "Costa Rica Ticas" online and you'll see a commercial site plugging CR sex tourism, though in a less 'in your face' manner than CD did.
Shoot, they have ads for hotels, tours, travel, even local dentists.
Count me out.

Mr E and Gogo definitely should pony up !!! I assume you are already in for $250 a month, or are you getting a cut from CD for the loot ?? JK

And BTW, if you've been fine with your wifey's smile for the past 4 years, things should continue to be smiley white eh? Again JK!!
. This person, whether he was a good or bad guy, his modus operandi and so forth, it is just not worth dwelling on, to my mind.
Yeah I think the Cuba Dave talk has run its course.
Or please move all the CD talk to the CD philosophy thread. I thought that was started for this purpose.
Thanks.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-prostitution_pledge
Good information, thanks. Will be interesting to monitor things. There are many local hotels / bars, parlors and websites that could be affected, depending on how the CR decides to interpret their law. CD may have only been "low hanging fruit" to impress the US State Dept.
Count on a Republican administration to screw things up. Trafficking in minors or forced prostitution is one thing, but consenting adults is a different matter. The GOP has become a party of hypocrites.

Grant money?

But then it says that the grant money goes to help former prostitutes. It sounds like a gimmick that the US started that if you stop prostitution we can help a bit. So is this a big deal? If that money was going for something CR really needs, I could see them cracking down. But this basically does nothing for CR. It just a way that the US tries to push it's values on other nations.

The article failed to mention the significant amounts of money the US sends via assorted foreiign aid packages. Many aid packages require the respective country to addreess various human rights issues such as human trappicking (spelled correctly with "f's" it's a "code word") (ie prostittution), which seems to be a hot button right now. So yes, money does go for things that the CR does in fact need; like agricultural projects.
