Tylenol cold or the walmart version, has a cough suppressant and a decongestant, not fun for me to fly when I am congested, ears can't decompress in the airplane, can be awful pain. A nail clipper. Some DR chicas like to clip the finger nails and toe nails of the guys they are with.

If you are bringing a bunch of oxycontin pills into the DR, I would advise you, to get a prescription from your doctor for those type of pills. Non-pain killer type drugs, crestor, lipitor etc, I wouldn't worry about. Customs in DR just about never checks luggage, but you may not want to be the guy they check and they find a bunch of pain killing drugs in your luggage, with no prescription.
Non-pain killing type medication, usually can be easily bought in DR pharmacies without a prescription.

The service is louzy, expect to load one window at a time or it crashes. Some rare days it ran smooth, but eventually you'll get used to it and figure out it's better than no internet at all. I paid DP 2000 for the USB, chip, and unlimited service for one month. They also charged me DP 560 in taxes on top which was ridiculous. Can't tell you what just the chip would cost.

Not sure I need a translator however, I know about 30-35 words of Spanish and put maybe a handful of sentences together. Having said that though, I hardly ever break out the Spanish when I go to Tijuana.
I figure Santo Domingo is geared towards tourist and as long as I speak slowly getting around shouldn't be an issue.

However, there are many small, guest friendly hotels in DR, with rates starting at $40 per night (there are some cheaper places). Many smaller, guest friendly hotels in DR, have the same rates year round.
Chinese owned and operated Pica Pollo restaurants are numerous in some parts of DR. You can get an order of fried chicken, tostones (fried plantains) or french fries with a bottle of coca cola, for around 150 pesos (about $4US). A six pack of presidente beer in the supermarket, around 225-250 pesos ($6US-$6. 60US). A large bottle of presidente beer from a colmado or supermarket. 75-100 pesos ($2US-$2. 60US).
A bottle of baileys at the airport duty free, $20US or less.
Taxi prices vary in different parts of the DR, (supposedly the most expensive taxis are on the north coast in Costambar, near Puerto Plata).
A bottle of beer in a nice bar, starting around 100 pesos to 250 pesos (250 pesos for a small bottle of beer at the Hotel Jaragua in Santo Domingo).
Chica prices will vary, usually starting at 1000 pesos ($26. 60US) and up.

Santo Domingo- The carriers Air France and Jet Blue asked the police and the Las Americas International Airport's security department to halt the theft of their passengers' luggage in the last few weeks.
Air France's manager resigned from that post yesterday, after the Police Investigations Department interrogated around 14 airport employees about the theft of several types of merchandise from French airplanes.
Sales and Customer Service manager Maria Esther Callega, quoted by news source listin. Com. Do, said the airlines were concerned with the theft of objects and precious jewels from their airplanes, which they sell to passengers.
She said the pilfering almost always occurs during the cleaning of the planes, but denied that Air France employees were involved in the robberies.
Last week Jet Blue made a similar request in the wake of complaints from dozens of passengers that their luggage was violated and their belongings stolen.
Both companies sent letters to Airports Department director Arístides Fernandez Zucco complaining of the lack of security and increasing thievery in and around the airport during the last few days.
The wave of thefts has also reached the terminal's perimeter, a section of which was carted away by unidentified burglars.
