Dark skin can come, in a country of light skin, from sun exposure. Sun exposure can come from working outside and in these countries can only mean "working in a rice field", sign of working class at low level. This opposite to the rich higher class of people not working, always fully dressed as in the comfort of shade.

For us, western, tanned skin (see? We don't call it dark, tan is more classy) means wealth as being in holiday on a sunny beach or laying at the side of a pool (something also not known to lower working classes, often displaying the t-shirt or vest sun tan)

Nana closed as well and all Soi 4 bars except for Hillary 2. Some said they bars would be closed for 2 days, but no one is really sure what will be open Saturday night. Many freelancers clearly not mourning the death of this monk.

Just out of curiosity, if and when the King of Thailand passes away (death is a part of life- and he is been in bad health for a long time) , can somebody predict how long the mourning period will be in BKK and how extensive it will be?

I would imagine it will be a devastating event since the King is a God figure

Just read a biography of King Bhumibol Adulyadej, refresh your memory on the events in 2006 and use your imagination. Thailand may get very interesting.

I thought about maby going to Bangkok this coming Monday. But if the nightclubs stay closed due to a monk dying I just extend my Makati stay. So any information about the freelancenightclubs and if they do sell alcohol (fuel) would be highly appreciated. I don't go to nightclubs drinking water.

All the middle class or hi so Thai girls I've ever met were so obsessed not to look like a rice peasant girl but still it is silly way of thinking. And Chinese women complained to me how anyone in the west could like Lucy Liu and so on. Or maybe this is not silly but part of God's plan. All the "ugly" dark girls don't have to stay lonely, there is always a farang for them. Not to mention that no fat ugly western girl has to stay lonely either because there is always an Asian or African guy that thinks she's super sexy (as long as she is blond and has pale skin).
