I've taken taxis from Swampy to lower Suk, and back, many, many times. The rates have all fallen within his range, depending on traffic. Snagging a taxi at the departure level doesn't save a substantial amount and is, in fact, unfair to the other drivers who play by the rules and queue up.

There are cheaper alternatives, certainly, but the taxis at the airport are hardly a ripoff. I guess nobody's taken a taxi in Phuket before?

I come to Thailand with a fat wallet for fun; I intend to go home with an empty wallet. If the baht leak to fast I slow down; if there is an excess at the end I splurge. Went to Eden Club on Sukhumvit 7/1 earlier this year, just getting a report back in to help, I haven't seen much about it here, it seems the Pattaya one is much more popular, so I'll give a blow by blow on the process of the Bangkok one.
