Any general statement about what Thai guys pay or get is never going to be really accurate because there are such a range of them. There are truck drivers and laborers who pay B300 for the girls in the bushes at Sanam Luang. There are rich guys who pay huge amounts for models and actresses. And there are loads of middle-class guys who pay a whole range of prices depending how flush they're feeling at the moment. It's also hard to generalize about whether or not they get 'better' girls than we do as their tastes tend to be different than ours. For one thing they tend to be more concerned with the girls' personalities and conversational abilities. Western guys tend to be more into the girl's performance.

Bottom line, Thai or farang, given enough time and effort, most of us can still usually find in Thailand what we want at a price we're willing to pay. And what else matters?

Main tourist areas totally unaffected.

Cost of goods + overhead + profits. It's not uncommon for a product's MSRP to be 10 times what it cost to manufacture. However, when you look at the company's annual report you may see a profit of only 5 percent. This is because overhead costs are huge. Packaging often costs more than the product. Liquor brands spend more money on the fancy bottles super premium vodkas are packaged in than the contents of the bottle. The same is true with cosmetics. Advertising, marketing and promotion costs for some products are also huge expenses. Decades ago in the USA Kmart revolutionized retail by adopting a merchandising plan and point of sales system like grocery store chains use to lower overhead. Target, Walmart and many other discount retailers have copied the strategy. Stuff is expensive because we want shopping to be an "experience" and are willing to pay for the posh stores, fancy packaging and stupid ads.

Similarly, we are paying for the overhead in the sex industry. The space the gogo bar's stage takes up adds to the rent, and then there is the stage, lighting and sound system. Part of the bar fine and the cost of the lady drinks are covering these costs. The MPs have to pay for the room you're shagging in and the water you use when you shower. The people running the escort agencies take half of what you pay to the escort to cover their overhead.

You do get rid of these overhead costs when you negotiate directly with an FL; however, the price point reflects the most the guys are willing to spend and the least the ladies are willing to accept. Sure there are some outliers. Some guys don't know the going rate and overpay. Some ladies are desperate and will occasionally sell themselves at a discount. It's easy to understand why they're likely to pay more than a guy who lives in BKK, knows the prices, has a lot of experience negotiating for sex and can easily decide to walk away and look for a lady the following night. Naturally this will create some contention between the two week millionaires who flew in for a few f*cks and the expats residing in the City of Angels.

SW = sex worker, anyone who offers sex for money.

FL = free lancers, any SW who works independent of an establishment or agency.
