having a "copy" of anything (watch, clothes) is not legal. it is illegal to make it and to purchase it.
having said that, in france, you could go to jail if you import illegal copies of french brands. they don't care about the rest. they just can confirep001e it but they let you go on your way.

remember that we are at the forefront of global trade. our software gets pirated with no enforcement outside of our shores. yet, we are trying to set an example that nobody else is following.

even if this law had passed, it still wouldn't have a damn thing to do with civilians clearing customs. there are all kinds of military regulations concerning conduct of our personnel in uniform that don't have anything to do with what customs inspectors have jurisdiction over relating to civilian u.s. citizens travelling under u.s. passports.
as for the watches, customs will let you bring in one phony branded watch for personal use - hence, you got to keep the one fake rolex on your wrist. try to bring 10 in, and that implies intent to resell them, and they will get confirep001ed if they are aware of them. and btw, that is the legitimate function of the u.s. customs inspectors.

S.company then the government's duty is to protect the company. After paying 40% in taxes the companies at least deserve that. If it is a company from overseas then primarily the Paris Convention of 1883 comes into play. That was the first International Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property, which guarantees that foreign trademark and patent applications from signatory countries receive the same treatment and priority as domestic applicants. Also, customs charges duties on imported items. So, theoretically you are cutting in on their action. They see it as that is one less "whatever" that they will be paid duty for allowing to be imported.
Now the consumer side of me is always looking for a deal. So my first stop in BKK is usually to my favorite "supercopy" dealer. I usually buy two watches for myself and one for my mom, dad, and sibblings. But I am smart enough to keep them in my carry-on bag then put them in my pockets before I come face-to-face with the customs officer. They usually x-ray and/or search your bags, but never the contents of your pockets or your person (unless you are suspected of drug smuggling.)

The real bullshit is: they don't charge them with solicitation; they charge them with trafficating because they believe that no woman would engage in P4P voluntarily.
