I made another visit to Khon Kaen recently, where I fared poorly at the hands of the local Thais. First I visited Ceasar Massage where everyone was very nice and honest, but I spent 1,700 baht on a 'Playboy' level girl, who unfortunately couldn't really do anything - no bbbj, and nothing else bb. No, there is never anything there before eight or nine PM at the earliest, and usually it is best to go after ten.

One afternoon I tried Lilly's soapy massage in the Charoensi Princess Hotel in downtown Khon Kaen. Its just round the corner from Kosa or Pullman. Finally she agreed to this, and turned out to be very skillful and titillating, even appearing quite horny. So, 1,500 would roughly be the cost for any decent looking girl at the better soapies, but here I had only an OK looking 30 year old. A sketchy report of my recent ramblings in Isan cities Khon Kaen, Udon, Ubon, Nong Khai, Mukdahan, Sisaket, Roiet, Nakon Phanom.

Khon Kaen:

Many establishments allegedly closed: Zolid, 172, HiTech; latter now has Violin Karaoke and Full Moon music club. The former had oldish girls, the latter was nearly void of customers when I visited (I believe they opened recently).

I enjoyed the RAD club (turn left walking from the street that has Eric's bar and Pullman hotel, and continue walking a few hundred meters; at night you can't miss it with it's brightly lit red 'RAD' sign) with (some nice) coyotees dancing; one girl told me she could meet me after closing time (2am); a waiter in the club told me he could arrange a girl earlier, from outside, but in order to do so I had to barfine him so I could go with him and he could show me where. I politely declined.

Checked out Harem (in Khon Kaen hotel) late at night, and it was standing room only; the place was heaving, but not a lot of cuties to be seen.

Nakon Phanom:

Mukdahan:

Ladyhouses conveniently located in half a circle around/under Mukdahan tower; friendly girls, some young and pretty. Ubon:

It seems I missed one street of bars nearby completely; it was mentioned in my guide even, but I failed to find it, and when asking for it on the street, no-one knew of it; later I read on the intarwebs that indeed there is such a street. Anyone?

Sisaket:

Friendly small place. Stayed at the Kessari hotel, where I was offered inhouse delivery by bellboy, 1500 bht. But word got out to the frontdesk and it all became a bit awkward, so I didn't pull. The I-bar disco in the Prompiman hotel hurt my ears, so I went to the Nona disco instead, which had the typical Thai music and dance shows, and a lot of young people having fun. A mama in there was obviously pushing and selling some beautiful girls, but no Angrit spoken.

Roiet:

Stayed at the Mai Thai hotel, a one stop shop convenience for the mongerer: massage, karaoke, coyote-club all in this hotel. Walked into the massage lounge one afternoon, which had some young girls sitting on a bench. Soon had made my choice, but the chosen one gasped terrified. Closing remarks:

You'd have to like 'the hunt' if mongering in Isan; it has been said before by others, and I often found the hunt fun, if frustrating at times, often not resulting in a 'kill' or the ensuing initimacies where so-so, mostly because of language-difficulties or anxiety towards farangs. It definitely helps to speak more then basic Thai (or even better Lao/Isan), which I do not.

Since the mongering in Isan merely caters to locals, most of the girls for hire are quite pretty, slim, young and relatively fair-skinned; Udon was a noticable exception, as it seemed more geared towards farangs, and the girls, while friendly and not as jaded as BKK or PTTYA girls, are not as pretty as elsewhere in Isan.

Great report, Leveller, but I have to disagree on your last point. It seems that you haven't visited the brothels in Soi Sow Fai Deng during your stay in Udon Thani and many Laotian cuties are available there. Usually they are not great performers but way more beautiful (and younger with fairer skin... and cheaper!) than the bar girls from the Day & Night Beer Bar Complex.

i'm just back from nong khai after a visa trip in laos (i will report on my short stay in vientiane later in the appropriate section of the laos forum).

i arrived in soi sri boon ruang 2 at 4pm approximately and almost all of the brothels in this soi were closed then. i was a bit surprised and disappointed as i've just seen at least one opened brothel on meechai road before entering sri boon ruang 2. this brothel on meechai road does not offer a great choice of girls (usually a couple of rather old - for this part of the country - and not very attractive women).
