Chazman,
Thanks mucho for your report. For example, I was wondering about the exchange rate available from porters at the airport and about Hotel Caracas Cumberland. It is the cheapest hotel in Caracas listed on the few hotel agency sites found through google.com.
Other hotels mentioned by our fellows are apparently accessible through a direct telephone call. I like to book through the internet. However, after contacting Cumberland direct through the internet, it wanted a fund transfer for the first night's reservation transferred to its bank account.
Catire,
Your frequent posts on Caracas are invaluable. You stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the other reputed Caracas info-sharing expertos named Bogey and Zippy. Thanks, amigo.
One suggestion: when you post, would you kindly cite the latest black market rate for bolivars, at least weekly and what seems to be affecting the rate. For example, the exchange rate for the banana republics of Central America would be expected to drop in October and November, when local exporters of agricultural products would be paid in US dollars. However, other factors would inversely affect the rate.
Of course, the savings may be only pennies. But, it could be worth the cost of another cold Polar. Meserzo, traigame otra fria, ni una chica fria o americana.

Again thanks to all who helped make this trip such a success, expecially Catire. Here are the answers to the questions.
1. She did not charge for the extra 3 hours
2. She said no charge for the overnight, but we would only sleep
3. She says her father is Dominican
4. She has a perfect bod.
Thinking of going again week of july 26. Thanks again all. Chazman. Heres another pic.

I've already talked about this a bit.
Rates at airport actually tend to be quite competitive, but not for non Spanish speaking gringos.
what you have to remember re hotels is that most of the hotels directed at tourist/especially foreign market are the preposterously expensive so called "5 star places". I also suspect you can get a better rate than 62 bucks a night if making a reservation locally, and paying in bolivares. If you want to make reservations on the Internet, you will have to pay "Net tourist pricing".
black market rate changes. Check the Venezuelan press, there's a way to figure it out based on value of the CANTV stock on Caracas' stock exchange as well.
Zippy is indeed a treasure, I blush just to be mentioned in his company, but that other guy probably couldn't hold my jockstrap :)
you want to say "mesenero", right?
and the "penny" savings are only that when prices are dollarized and compared to what an American/Western European might make back in his home country. This is of course a typical idiot tourist mistake. THe savings in local pricing, in terms of local earning/purchasing power are often SIGNIFICANT.

Chazman,
Your last picture was much better and showed a beauty. You, lucky guy, you.
Catire,
Sorry for not explaining what I meant by the pennies on the black market rate. Chazman got Bs 2,300 for a US dollar at the airport. If the average black market rate during mid-July was Bs 2,500, then the Bs 200 difference on a $100 would be Bs 20,000 or about $8. That would be about the price of a beer in a better strip club in the U.S. I have to check out the price of CANTV, as you suggested.
Hotels can be over-priced. One value of this discussion board is finding the good hotels and how to get the lower rate. But, even a good hotel can have a lousy room or two, which can provoke negative comments from a fellow contributor. I guess, for me, I rather take a chance on a so-called four-star or agency-recommended hotel for a first visit and, once there, look around for cheaper hotels within my acceptable range of quality. One web site rated Hotel Caracas Cumberland as four-star. At least, it should be better than a two-star hotel.
Meserzo - wrong. I should have spelled mesero or camarero. When my tongue is thick with beer fuzz, I probably do say meserzzzo. "mesenero" is the month of January?
By the way, is "Spiderman 2" the movie being shown in Caracas? Or, does Caracas get US movies several months later after the US showings? How much would a ticket usually cost?

Went to Caracsas last month, stayed at the Hilton, was originally booked at the Radisson Eurobuilding. Had my homework done at the internet and checked out the www.sexycaracas.com site, since not to many englishfriendly sites were available. Falled in love with the Adara add. Had send her a mail and received a answer to call when in Caracas. However, she was only spanisspeaking so I ask my driver to set the date for 18.00 which she confirmed. at around 18.00 the Reception called me to come down and register my visitor, so I went down and reconized the Lady rightaway, nicly dressed and with warm smile, gives always a good start. She had to show her ID to the clerk, they took the details and off we went. Well had seen the gringo prices on the web, but finally a became less expensive we settled for 4 hours = 350 USD.
Sespite comunicating only with hands and bits of spanish and english phrases it turned out to be a lovely evening, had 2 bootles of cahmpagne brought with me so everybody got in the mood. She went to the bathroom and returned only in stockings and high heels and those huge boobs. She was an real pro, who did all perfectly well, kissing me deep, kissing my entire body, deepkissing my anus, leaking my balls, sucking all, anal sex no problemo. We did this several times this evening and the 4 hours passed quickely leaving me by the end a very happy fellow. Even though the price was high a well invested money.
Needless to say she was very clean and very friendly.
Tried to contact her the next day again, but no luck, so called a lady named Pantera, black girl, speaking some english, met her in the Lobby and we went up to the room by crossing the poolarea, so no fee paid. I wanted her to stay longer, but she kind of was not well dressed, and as well had a kind of smell. So did a short one and send her off.

I guess you didnt like Pantera/Afrodite as much as the other guy, eh?
350 bucks by four is almost 80 bucks per hour.
Which would be 80 x 2500 which is = 200, 000 bolivares an hour.
Adara seems to be Ms. SexyCaracas for this particular viewing period.
Which makes sense. Venezuelans love those blondes with huge tits, no matter if the silicone makes them bigger than the girl's head.
for 2 hours she wants 460K plus an extra 80 for anal (which is usually a red flag, means she doesnt enjoy it)
Actually looks like you got yourself a decent deal and even a discount , based on proper bolivar based rates.

Jacks 01:
Hope you had fun. Going rate is about $200 for overnight and $50 for an hour of room service. The rate will be even less if you changed dollars for Bolivars at the airport with unofficial changers.

Catire:
Tries to find hotel Rosalinda using your directions. Sorry no luck after walking around for an hour. Thanks for help anyway.
-
that's because Rosalida is off on a little side street where a lot of love hotels are, called Calle Guaicapuiro (or something like that, I can't recall exactly now). It's precisely a block off Casanova once you head down the little hill just below the Chacaito commercial center area.
I didn't want to bother posting specific directions since I figured you'd get into the immediate vicinity and then ask around???

Hey Guys,
I am looking to renting a one bedroom apartment in Caracas for about 1 month. From the 31st Aug-end Sept. Has to have kitchen & cooking facilities, safe area within easy reach of amenities.
Would appreciate any help or advise.
Thanks,
Steve

one month might be difficult. Few people want to rent for such a short time. You might have to get one of those apart-hotels for shorter term stays.
here are some hints:
do NOT pay in US$, but in bolivares and do not accept quotes in US$
live east of Chacaito.
look thru the classifieds in www. eluniversal.com if you can speak/read Spanish.
there are also sometimes ads for this in the Daily Journal, the English language daily in town (no, they don't have a website)
If you were willing to stay at least several months, you could probably get a very nice place for $300 US/monthly (converted at black market rate in Bolivares)

Arrived in Caracas for a few days of fun. At the airport, a man in a white shirt and tie offered a taxi and an exchange rate of 2,200 bolivars per dollar. This seemed low and I told him that I heard the rate was closer to 3,000. He brought his friends over to tell me that 2,200 was the going rate. I declined his offer.
No one in the Sabana Grande area or the clubs have mentioned anything about needing dollars. I have been getting bolivars from an ATM at almost exactly 1,900 bolivars per dollar. When I get my bank statement, we will see if there were any transaction charges added on.
I met for the first time a fellow American, who told me his handle. From his suggestions and advice, I would have to call him, EXtra-informative CAT-man-did. He has been very helpful, but he likes to visit the good places by himself. He calls it, flying solo for more action. He confirmed that he also got the same offer of 2,200 at the airport, non-interest in dollars, and is using an ATM.
The hotel rate is 1,730. A casa de cambio, or money exchange business store, quoted me 1,710.
It is a little too early for me to form my impression of Caracas. But, EC said that Caracas has its good points and its not-so-good points for us older guys. I do not have much for comparison. But my initial opinion is that Buenos Aires is better than Caracas and about as expensive for girls and more expensive for drinks.
Athough I doubt if I would return to Caracas unlike Buenos Aires, it has been fun exploring a new city and experiencing the quirks of the culture. Thanks to everyone for their reports and advice.

Bogey, Catire, Zippy, and other fellow visitor-writers,
Big thanks for your Caracas leads!
Stan,
Thanks for your appreciative words. Like you, this is really my first visit too to Caracas, since I was last here almost 20 years ago and did not have a chance to run around. I have enjoyed our chats, which made me realized how expectations can overreach based on other reports and no self-description by the writers. In our chats, you have expressed some unhappiness with the Caracas scene. What I have told you apparently has not stuck. Maybe these written words on my main themes will help.
First, we are older men. It is unrealistic to expect a girl in her early 20s or younger to become emotionally attracted to a man 20 or more years older. Sure, it could happen but the odds are against you. Second, we are in a modern city with millions of people. Here there is a constant bombardment of ads that shape the viewers´sense of beauty. For the girls, it is not pudgy, middle-aged men.
Third, the minimum expectation of civilized girls is not an average guy. In Central America and in small towns like those in Colombia outside of Bogota, most of those girls are satisfied with any guy who has a steady job. Civilized girls, though, expect a guy with a good-paying job, at the least. Fourth, the girls in the clubs, hotels for play, escort agencies, and similar for-pay venues are not the kind of girl who will spend her time going for a long walk in the park with you just to talk about philosophy and literature and to enjoy mutual man-woman friendship.
Fifth, you have to pay more than the market rate to get a girl who will be an actress to play the type of girl you desire. Sixth, you have a preference for blancas and mestizas and not for negras, mulattas, and pure indiginas. That is okay, because everyone has different taste. That alone explains why you like Buenos Aires more than Caracas.
Seventh, one should speak some Spanish to develop friendships, which you do a little of. I mention this because it is important.
I like Caracas more than you do. I am here for a long weekend, just for some mattress action and some entertainment. The girls in the clubs and hotels for pay are eagerly friendly, though most would not be allowed to enter a Miss Universe contest and they continually say trago.
Last Saturday night, I saw the best "show girl with male customer" spontaneous act ever -- even better than similar shows in San Salvador, El Salvador when some chicas in the middle of their act will spray beer on nearby customers. I had not laughed so hard in years and the crowd was cheering loud and long during and at the end of the act. Sorry, you were not there to see it. But, I move erratically between clubs and hotels for play.
Costs at the exchange rate of Bs 1900 = US$1 are high, but that is the luck of the draw and thanks to the drop of the value of a dollar due to Bush´s war on conservative Islam, deserved or not. At one hotel, payment was accepted in US dollars at a rate of Bs 2350 = US$1.
All in all, Stan, you are a romance traveler looking for the perfect woman. By contrast, I and most writers on this board are not. We are hedonists trying to enjoy the earthly delights before the veil on this corporeal consciousness we call life draws shut.
Enjoy those silicon valleys of Caracas.

I clearly stated that recently (more specifically after it was announced that the referendum would take place after all, on Aug. 15th)
that the exchange rate had dropped to 2500-2600 to 1 on the black market. I also clearly stated that you'll likely get offered 2200 or 2300 at the airport. See my earlier posts. No way were you going to get anywhere close to 3000.
There is demand for dollars but you have to know where to go, or simply have to be rather upfront and ask around. As a a gringo tourist, it'll be difficult for you to get a good rate. Rather, they see you as prime stupid target meat for casa de cambio or hotel rates of 1700 to 1 (this would be utter INSANITY)
If Buenos Aires is a "better" destination for sex tourism, all the better for Caracas which remains basically unsullied by it.
Tango - the area would not be far away from the "action".
but if you are going to spend any serious length of time in town, stay away from the hos and hang out with regular girls. Assuming you're not a troll and you've got some game, many will be interested in hanging out with you. It's the way to go.
