I've actually been living in Rio since May 2021 and gave up a long time ago with trying to find a good barber. The problem is the Brazilians will both overcharge and purposely give you a subpar haircut simply because you're a foreigner. And if you're black, it might also be due to racism. As an example, I went to a barber in Copacabana in 2021. There was a Brazilian guy getting a haircut along with his beard trimmed and lined up in one chair alongside another Brazilian customer in a second chair. After about 20 minutes of waiting, I took the second chair and asked for a low taper, trim, and line-up. By that time, the dude in the first chair had already gotten his haircut and the barber was about halfway finished lining up his beard. Long story short, the barber cutting my hair rushed to finish in about five minutes and completely ignored what I asked for. He gave me a high-bald fade with a shitty line-up. The irony is the Brazilian dude getting his hair cut was still in the chair getting his beard lined-up and his haircut / line-up was the quality that I expected with my haircut. A few weeks later, I got my haircut at a different barbershop—far away from the tourist area. I. e. Copacabana—and the same thing happened again. There are good barbers here but it's difficult to find them and / or to getting good service if you're not Brazilian; and a lot of times the ones that know how to cut black hair are probably located in the favelas. And it's not worth the risk.

The appeal of termas to me is the sheer amount of adult entertainment you can get outside the room. To me the action in the room is just a cherry on top, not the cake. Some guys just spend a couple of hours, then get out and go to a prive, and that's fine, but let me put it this way. Alcohol costs less in a liquor store, but I still buy drinks at a bar or restaurant. Because I'd rather have a drink when and where I want.

Most of the others are more expensive. If you won't pay 4 x4 prices to fuck (in your own words) an absolute knockout then I think you will be disappointed with the pricing and selection at the other Termas.

Maybe try Vila Mimosa or hookup with Vagabundo and let him show you the cheaper places downtown.

Of course, these places are not as nice as 4 X4 or Solarium but sometimes you can find real gems in these places. Just to mention a few in Centro:

Terma 21, Rua Buenos Aires 21 (near 4 X4).

Cancun, Rua do Carmo 64.

Club 502, Rua the Alfandaga 65.

Whiskeria 65, Rua do Rosario 65.

There are many more of these tier-2 termas spread out all over Rio.

The Critic has listed the top 4 RJ Termas. Including 4 x4 that makes the top 5. I rate Solarium #1 for its girls. 4 x4 is #1 for its atmosphere and circus circus like entertainment qualities. Perola Negra is a late-night kind of place that does not really get going until after midnight. MC is a waste of time IMHO, and while Centauras might have some attractive girls, it is the most expensive of the top 5 termas.

But I am afraid I have to agree with Houston Player.

But your big mistake was in timing. You went too late to a Prive. I think you will find that in Prive Land, the earlier the better is what you should shoot for and maybe check out VM later at night. Usually a brand new guy that has made all the trouble to travel to Brazil will pull out all the stops. He chose to pay $37 at a place he seemed meh about even having to switch girls at the last minute, over $56 at a place he seemed really excited about that the chicks were ticking off all his boxes. Go figure.

If I am at the rental car place and they tell me $56 for my Ferrari dream car, I am not opting for a $37 Volkswagen instead. I am about to drive the fuck out of the Ferrari. And like the people said, they take credit cards. Even as cheap as I am, I am not about to pass up the moment I have been waiting for over $20. If I was hard up for money, I would use the card and worry about the payment later. That is the American way.

Just a quick reminder of the good times I used to have at 4 x 4.

Made a quick stop in Rio from SP and wanted to share my experiences.

4 x 4.

Went here on two days, both times the lineup was only okay but there were definitely a few lookers in the mix. Found a girl with a gorgeous face and solid body, and I tried to wave her over but she kept sitting with her friends. Waited about 10 minutes and went over and introduced myself directly, asked her to come sit with me, and shortly after we went up to the room. She was much much better in the room than downstairs, and the service was great. Anal was included for the standard fee.

I went back day two when she told me she'd be in, but the woman at the desk confirmed she hadn't yet arrived. It's definitely a lot quieter early, but after nearly giving up I saw a pretty girl wander into and out of the bar area. Woman at the desk told me to check another place and sure enough I found her. Very brief chat as I was pressed for time, and off we went. Service again was really solid, though she told me she doesn't do anal.

Solarium.

This place had a gorgeous lineup. No, its not Scandallo, but nowhere is. In 4 x4 I was interested in maybe 3/15 girls, here I would have considered 15/20. I met a girl who spoke great English, and talked a pretty good game. I'm always skeptical when a woman says all the right things, but boy did she deliver. In terms of raw physical passion, she easily took the #1 spot for this trip. I also sessioned with a second girl right before close. She was pretty and the service was fine, though I was pretty eager to get out of there so I wasn't looking for anything mind blowing (and after the first girl that would frankly have been impossible).

Eden Spa.

I wasn't sure I was in the right place at first, but the number on the building matched the address, and I remembered someone here saying 4th floor so I found it okay. They had around 10 girls, only one of which I'd consider, but one is all you need. She asked if she could do a CBJ, and while I felt like I could say no, I wasn't inclined to pick anyone else and for R150 I'm not expecting the world. Fairly mediocre but not terrible. I wouldn't go again, but I could see why someone might head there before a trip to 4 x 4 or Solarium.

I don't remember most of the prices at the termas, but when you get there they are very clearly spelled out, and in fact the front desk at Solarium would speak to me on the phone whenever I'd take a girl upstairs and confirm the new total of my bill. It all seemed very above board. The lockers seemed safe-ish, and I had no problems with them at both establishments. I changed into the robe and preferred it, but I did see people in street clothes in 4 x4 for sure. I personally wouldn't recommend it. You don't need cash, and the robe has a pocket for your phone if needed (I brought mine to translate).

Look I don't care that Gparena lists them as termas. To me it's not a terma if you don't change into a robe and have access to a sauna, showers; where you can relax and take your sweet time. 65 does have lockers, but most people go in street clothes, and I don't like to be the only disrobed dude in a joint.

Although, there is nothing wrong about these fine establishments.

By the way, when I visited 4 X4, yesterday I was surprised when being told at the counter that I could enter in street clothes if I liked. It was good to see that the great majority of guests still changed into a robe but it may be a sign of the times. Are the "real" termas disappearing in Rio?

You can hang around an hour or two making out with chicks, groping them, and having them grab your dick. Go to the cabin for a session, shower, relax in the sauna, and then start all over again. Termas and FKKs are two of the great inventions of mankind.
