So I've just returned from my week long trip to Pattaya where I had an excellent time! It was my first time in Thailand and what follows is roughly in chronological order without being broken down into specific days.
So on a couple of recommendations from this board had booked myself into the Nova Platinum hotel, a short walk from the action. Not the cheapest by any means at 1500 THB a night but certainly very nice. Lovely rooms, very large TV, DVD player, swimming pool, and free unlimited use of the wireless internet throughout the hotel, and a free late 4pm checkout on departure date. So on the day of my arrival I got to the hotel about 10 am, which was a slight worry as my check-in time was not till 2 pm. However when I got to the hotel the staff were very accommodating and gave me a room straightaway, without asking for any extra money. Very good service.
Couple of downsides to the hotel, the food there is pricey and awful. Ordered room service twice and both times it was edible but very disappointing. Also some of the staff don't speak very much English, at one point I had to make an urgent phone call home, my phone in the room didn't work and the woman downstairs couldn't understand this. But I would definitely stay there again.
So, enough about the hotel, what about the real reason why I was there. Well my first "date" was with a girl from the DateInAsia website who met me in BKK and we travelled to Pattaya together. At first I was amazed by the low cost of rooms and the location right in the middle of the action on Soi 6. I agreed to stay for two nights. I tried to use the wall safe but there was aproblem with the code. The British owner came and showed me how to use the safe. After I put in my code and started using the safe. When I was about to checkout I found that 5000 Baht had been stolen from the safe. I suspect that it was stolen by the owner but I can't be absolutely sure. I am putting this out there as a potential warning to visitors. It is the slow season and you have to really weigh your options when considering lower cost accomodations. If you do still decide to stay at the Queen Vic definately do not use the wall safe!

Another suggestion on Soi 6, is try not to make a commitment to that girl even if you are attracted to her. Invest sometime to feel her out, while having a beer. day 1 in pattaya
