I remember that someone recommended me booking a room in advance only for the first night unless I'm arriving during Christmas. I'm going to spend 2 weeks in Sosua.

(8-22 Jan) and hesitating whether to make a reservation for the first 2-3 nights, one week or two weeks. The first two options would mean walking in (or searching on sites like [URL]booking.com[/URL]) and asking about the availability of rooms in other places (or the same place if I don't feel like changing it) during my stay, which can be a bit tiring but also an interesting experience (have never had problems with doing this in Thailand, but it's going to be my first time in the DR).

So, just booked a last minute 4 day trip to Sosua, I arrive this afternoon. Going alone and hoping for 4 days of decent mongering, without taking out a new mortgage.

I've trawled through this forum and I see a lot of philosophy but can't seem to pin down what's open and running these days.

Can someone please recommend strip clubs and let me know what I should expect to pay. Will they take USD or only local currency?

You would stand a better chance in Puerto Plata, but still very slim.

[/QUOTE]There are no strip clubs in Sosua. In fact there are none on the North Coast though occasional attempts are made. Prostitution is legal here so not many people would want to pay to watch girls strip when they can pay them to fuck for a similar price.

You can pick up chicas in bars, cafes, casinos and discos and (in daytime) along the beach path. Also street-walkers but be very wary of those.

[/QUOTE]I would be very wary of inviting chicas to commit to 24 hours when you do not know them. In fact, on a four-day first trip I would even be cautious about inviting them over-night. Leave that for your next trip when you have had time to build up connections. Play the field this trip and get a feel for the environment.

I have been mongering here for nine years and living here for the past seven. I have met hundreds of mongers and read about hundreds more on the boards. I have not met anyone who has used an escort service on the North Coast, although they do exist for those who are clueless or for whom money is no object. Stay at Sosua Sunrise, New Garden, or Victorian House. There are a few other good places. Just don't be a noob staying in an AirBnB, villa, or other problematic/non-guest friendly spot.

2. Don't talk to any of the local Dominican guys offering help. Just totally ignore them. They will be able to smell the newbie on you.

3. In the morning at breakfast, ask any of the mongers at your hotel how the scene works.

4. Go the beach around noon and have lunch at Mofongo King or Tree House Lounge, #74 and #112B, respectively. There will be girls walking by around that time. If you see a girl you like, have her sit with you. Ask her a few questions, bang her, don't pay more than 2000 pesos.

5. Go to Bourbon Street Cafe around 6 pm. See a girl you like and ask her a few basic questions. Take her back to your room for short time. Don't pay more than 2000 pesos.

6. Around 11 pm, go to Classicos. See a girl you like, etc. You can pay this girl 3000 pesos if she agrees to stay until the morning and bang you before she goes.

7. Put all your valuables in a safe any times a girl is in your room.

8. Don't fall in love, don't tell girls you're new to Sosua, don't ever pay more than 3000 pesos.

However the surprising thing in Sosua is that you can find more than a few participants who are pretty nice people with undamaged personalities, particularly if they are newcomers. The more selective you are and the more you choose partners based on a holistic assessment and not just on physical characteristics like possession of extraordinary mammary endowment or steatopygia, the less likely you are to fall victim to occupational hazards of mongering. Chicas are not all the same and neither are mongers.

Of course anyone can make a mistake, but the important thing is to realize that a mistake has been made and move on.
