It is the rainy season but I wouldn't worry about it. I was there last Sept and it was not a problem. Actually was planning on going back this year at that time but
Which "crackdown" do you refer to?
I was referring to the Purachai "crackdown"
By "western" I mean western advanced countries, not third world hell holes like Mexico, locales where strippers are not really strippers at all.
You clearly haven't been to Mexico in a while. It's hardly a third-world country. And every dancer is available for take-out. The same can be said of just about every Central American and South American club.
I didn't make it to Crazy House this trip. It sounds a lot like Tijuana's Hong Kong club, which is very popular for those who like those kinds of clubs, and it sounds a bit more like the old days. Due to the attitudes and poor value I gave up on go-gos a while back. Now it's mostly massage and free-lance encounters for me, in both hemispheres.

Technically, they aren't Arabs and they do get pissed off if you call them such. Beverly Hills is now chock full of them, BTW. I could go on a rant, but I'll zip it.

I could go on a rant, but I'll zip it.
Right, my understanding is the historic Persians were Aryans and classical Parsi was a Hindu-European language. The Arabs are Semites; and they speak a Semitic language. Of course today's Iranians are a mix of Persians, Arabs, Turks and others; and Farsi while similar to classical Parsi has been influenced by Arabic and other languages. Islam was forced on them by conquest. The Persians were Zoroastrians, who were monotheists. Some people believe the Zorastrian faith predates Judaism by as much as a millennium. When Cyrus the Great freed the Jews from the Babylonian captivity and their priests started to interact with Zoroastrian priests they abandoned the belief that their god was the first among many gods and adopted the belief their god was the only god. Through the shahs reign the Zoroastrian Iranians played an important role in the upper echelons of Iranian society. After the revolution they were persecuted and many of them, that is those who were not killed, ended up up in Europe and the USA, especially on the east coast, as did the Iranian Christians. I encountered many Iranians in Southern California. Almost all of them seemed to be Iranian Jews.
This is my recollection of some the things an Iranian girlfriend told me. She was Zoroastrian and claimed to be pure Persian. She said this was possible because for 1500 years her ancestors only married other Zoroastrians, so her blood was "pure." Whatever. She had a very poor opinion of Islam and the Iranian Arabs as she called the majority of Iranians. She used to say Islam was a stupid religion invented by a bunch of desert thieves. Also, though her hair was black, her skin was whiter than mine and she had emerald green eyes, a beautiful and very smart lady with some very strong opinions.
By the way, feel free to vent your rage and rant in a PM to me. I suspect we could trade war stories about our respective dealings with Iranians.

I'm jealous! I think Iranian women are some of the hottest in the world. I've tried Indian here in the states but she was a drunk. Tried Egyptian but that didn't work out. I just picked up a new Pakistani honey that I'm actually thinking of moving her in. Mistake I know, but I've made a few of those in life. I just can't resist.

My advice is, fight the temptation. But what do I know? If you do move her in, good luck.

I noticed a recent debate regarding drinking at Annie's and the Salon so this should clear things up.
The policy at Annie's, the Salon and Nuru are now exactly the same. We don't want customers to simply come in and sit down to have a few drinks and then decide if they want to pick a girl or not and the reasoning behind this is very simple. If a couple, newcomer to Thailand or a slightly nervous person walks in and the area to view the girls is filled with six or seven guys having a few beers they can be easily put off and quickly leave the premises, I have seen this happen at Annie's and the Salon in the very early days. Now we are not saying we refuse to serve drinks unless you first pick a girl by any means. To quantify our policy a customer is welcome to have as many drinks as they want, in the case of Annie's in the downstairs area, in the Salon and Nuru immediately outside where there is always seating and obviously inside the rooms after picking a lady. The reason we discourage drinking in the viewing area is because it is simply bad for business.
If three guys were sitting in Annie's and had four beers each the takings (not profit) from this are 1, 080 baht. If a guy and his wife / girlfriend walk in and were put off by lewd comments like "can I join the orgy, I won't charge a penny" or "pick number xx I shagged her last week, she's proper filthy" then the place would lose 3,920 baht. 1,080 v 3,920. This is not a purely hypothetical scenario this has actually happened.
A few days ago, in Annie's, two guys walked in and were politely informed of the policy regarding drinking to which they replied they didn't have time to pick a girl and just wanted to look at the girls in the fishbowl while they had a few beers. They seemed to have trouble understanding the reasoning behind the policy which for the life of me I can't see anything complicated about it, it is purely a business decision.
Now some people reading this may be thinking that they have been to the Salon and upon exiting have seen two or three guys sitting in the bar area drinking a beer, yes you probably have. If three customers pick a girl and two are finished earlier than the third I have no problem allowing them to sit at the bar, order a drink and wait for their friend.
I hope this makes things clearer for all but if anyone has any questions please feel free to ask and I will be more than happy to answer them.
Regards.
Dr BJ
i was referring to the purachai "crackdown"
okay that's the same crackdown i referred to as it happened when thaksin came to power (i just checked and was 2001). long time ago now. all the bargirls had to be registered, had to have proper i.d. proving they were thai and not ****, had to have regular medical checks, and bar were required to close early for a time. which simply meant that mongering had to shift slightly earlier. did not seem to last that long before many bars were illegally staying open later than 2a. m. limit.
thermae was always a bar that stayed open past closing time for the normal bars, but when i attended there recently they said was about to close and was 1:45am. i had no idea that thermae hours had shifted too.
you don't really know the most about the trends in the bars if you haven't seen crazy house yet. this bar is busy and growing in popularity. they get the prettiest girls by paying a bit better salary. it pulls the customers well. not that much fake looks, so popular with westerners and japanese. other bars going bad could learn from this. the other bars need to hire prettier girls, as simple as that. its miles superior to even popular bars rainbow 4 and baccara in my opinion due to low incidence of nose jobs and silicones, and mostly good natural naked looks.
the girls don't have to be all good on the bed, since guys can go their just for fun without barfining anyone, maybe buy a few drinks and play around. that's my normal operation. i try to only barfine if the chemistry is reasonable and i like both the face and body a lot. i have girls i prefer to bf elsewhere. some girls can make good money from drink commissions without doing any bfs.
girls dance very naked (shaved pussies) and wander around or sit with customers completely naked too at times. many gropers are attracted to this bar. lol. i am very moderately behaved in comparison. i have a favourite waitress who sometimes hangs with me when no one needs service. she is very nice looking too (not one of the lb waiting staff).
there is no stripping. what would be the point? stripping is boring to people very used to full nudity. it just wastes time. if you really like stripping, you can go to some other bars. stripping never did anything for me whatever country i was in. i was always frustrated. is she ever going to get it off? its just plain annoying. that's my view.
It is the rainy season but I wouldn't worry about it. I was there last Sept and it was not a problem. Actually was planning on going back this year at that time but
Yes I agree. The weather in Thailand is not a big issue. Sure I have been caught in a massive downpour between a bar and the nearby ST Hotel. So what?
If you plan to go diving or snorkling in coral areas that is a different issue. Its quite hard to get good information on the best weather time of year for visits to the Islands. What I do know is the weather of the gulf of Thailand side and the Andaman side are very different. Don't go to the East side for coral Islands rainy season, late in the year or even January. Wait till at least February for better weather I reckon. The Phuket side has better weather and sparkling clean ocean far earlier, so its okay as early as December. That's my experience in general.
Once went to Krabi in the wet season. It poured with rain nearly every day. Not the best fun at the seaside. For Bangkok, it just doesn't matter much. Any time of year is okay Its supposed to be peak of the hot season now, but really not too bad for me.
I feel allergic to bras, and like to look at beautiful bottoms unencumbered by silly G-strings, knickers, etc.

That's my view.
I didn't make it to CH this trip, although I wanted to. This trip was spent mostly outside of BKK (actually outside of Thailand). What free time I had in BKK was often tied up with work. Grrrr.
It sounds like CH may be a throwback to earlier days. If so, great. A place like that was the only reason to go to a go-go. I'll make an effort to visit next trip, as it sounds far more interesting than the average go-go.
Stripping never did a lot for me, either, but at least the girls were dancing. Far too many go-gos used to feature a bunch of bored girls standing next to poles, chatting with each other. I don't care if they were available or not, it was boring, at least to me. Now if the girls are actually dancing nekkid, with a bit of fun and energy, then I'm all for it. I'll never again pay an inflated bar fine, and a super-inflated fee to the girls, but at least that would provide some eye candy while sipping a brew.
Now just to inject a bit of philosophical blather here, the strip club, or go-go (a terribly outdated '60s term) , or whatever one wishes to call it, is basically a western concept. Or maybe a North American concept. (Yes, Salome danced for Herod, but probably didn't strip). It really doesn't seem to fit the Asian Modus Operandi. I prefer to do the P4P scene as the locals might, in whatever country I'm visiting. Of course within reason, and not at the very bottom of the market. In Mexico and Central America the local lasses congregate along the bar, wall, etc, in a particular bar. The guy comes up, chats, offers to dance, buys 'them a drink, whatever. They're all available. The Asian market tends to gravitate to karaoke (God forbid!) and some variation of massage. In other words, the men always have ways to indulge in some hanky-panky, but it's more discreet and behind closed doors. The in-your-face go-go concept was really grafted onto some SEA societies by the Yanks. Frankly, I'm surprised the Thais have put up with it as long as they have. That's why, as Thai society evolves (and perhaps even moves away from a patronage-based system) , I suspect such venues will be phased out.
Or, perhaps sheer economics will just price them into oblivion. If you can't get pretty girls to work in the bar, if such girls as you can find demand exorbitant fees for mediocre performance, if rents force drink prices into the WTF range, the market will dry up on its own. Who knows? It is interesting to watch.
Syzygies is absolutely right. Chemistry is key. It does not augur well for success in the bedroom if the chemistry is lacking between you and the bar girl. Rule #1: DO NOT BARFINE a girl if she does not pass the audition. Good looks are necessary for me to consider barfining a girl, but good looks alone is not sufficient for me to barfine a girl. I met a quite a few girls in Crazy House in April, but I took only two girls home with me. Both girls were a lot of fun in the bar. It was no surprise therefore that they were both even better back at my hotel room.
I like to frequent Go Go's and bars. Between 8:30pm and 10:30pm there is no place I would rather be except when I decide to take in an occasional soapy. When I go to a Go Go or bar, I am obviously looking for girls, but I have no problem walking out and trying another place if I fail to connect with any of the girls I see and find attractive. First screen for looks. Second check for a positive fun attitude or good vibe (chemistry) between you and the girl. Only Barfine when both conditions are met.

It developed in the burlesque theaters and featured famous dancers like Gypsy Rose Lee and Sally Rand. Thomas Edison made a film in 1901 with a striptease dance as the subject. In European literature an erotic dance during which a woman removes her clothes to sexually arouse a man is much older. Seventeenth and 18th Century English and French plays included scenes involving prostitutes performing a striptease dance. There is a line in Thomas Otway's comedy The Soldier's Fortune (1681) where a character says: "Be sure they be lewd, drunken, stripping working girls".
Asia's first USA-style strip clubs appeared In Japan during the USA occupation after the end of World War II. At first Japanese striptease acts were very modest. Women did not remove their bras and panties. By the 1950s Japanese strip shows became much more explicit, evolving into live sex shows. The first live sex shows I heard of in the USA were in the Time Square district of NYC in the 1970s.
The USA GIs during the Vietman War, or American War as my Vietnamese friends call it, were the major impetus behind Bangkok's P4P industry in general and gogo bars in particular.
I found an estimate of US$75 billion in global revenues for strip clubs. About 4% of this is generated in the USA. In 2014 USA GDP is projected to be 18.44% of the global GDP, adjusted for purchasing power parity. So today the USA is a relatively small contributor to the global strip-club industry.
