Be prepared! Excellent advice.
Mr. Enternational, an astute man I've had the pleasure of meeting, it spot on in what he wrote:
"From those reviews it appears a lot of people are too needy. I have never had a problem choosing my own seat. I bring my own pillow, blanket, eye shades, water bottle full of ice, and snacks. All I need to do is sit down and put on my headphones and look at my tablet. Some people just show up and wait to be treated like baby birds.
I was a boy scout. The scout motto is Be Prepared, which I always am. Phone charger, power bank. Don't just show up and think everything that makes you comfortable will be provided. Bring your own comfort".
Exactly right! Assume airlines pride a seat and perhaps water. That's it. Have zero expectations. Pilots have a special bag of (electronic or paper) maps, navigation instruments and the more experienced, a battery powered VHF radio, sunglasses, ear plugs etc, sunscreen, skin moisterizer, eye drops and often a Bose aviation headset (and mix of deck cables) of their liking.
For passengers on long haul: bring a suitable entertainment device and media + velcro to affix to seat in front if you want, old fashioned books to read, high quality black out eye sleep mask (experiment and always have a few), NRR rate -38 dB ear plugs, spare A or AAA batteries & fully juiced up 40 mAh USB charger (about USD40) , noise cancelling headphones (Sony or Bose) (about 200 2nd hand), nutritious snack bars, small flashlight or reading light, trail mix, 50 ML bottles of favorite tipple, toothbrush + paste and foam headrest, plus eye droops if you wear contacts (humidity is low on aircraft) and warm but loose cotton travel cloths and quality travel blanket. I have a seat belt extender so if score 3-4 seats, a can sleep with it outside to avoid being woken up. These days I add a RF tile to my bags that have distinct markings and a large bit of paper INSIDE with contact details. Have all this is bag organized with pockets and zip lock bags, pack in the same way every trip and be methodical where everything has its place and have checklist before leaving home (passport, visa, copy of passport, emergency numbers on paper, etc). If you can afford international travel you can and should afford this basic kit. It makes flying so much easier. I also have GoogleFi as a backup plan so I never get left without data at 2am on a dark street. Make sure your phone is UNLOCKED and has band coverage: research this or you will have a disrupted and unpleasant time. US phone companies have shit service designed to rip you off and shittier call centers in third world slums with workers that are clueless. If you are "locked" to them you are in trouble at the best of times, and doubly so for international.
Besides your "real" phone, I strongly suggest a cheap UNLOCKED smartphone with ESN and conventional SIM no personal info on it just for mongering and uber linked with a pre-paid card in the name of say Dwight Eisenhower. Segregate your life when swimming in hooker land and remember where you are and what you are doing, these girls are out to make a buck, not be your best friend. If you are drunk or stoned or flashy then you have just painted a target on your back.
PLAN. ORGANIZE. AND HAVE LOTS OF FUN !
Rio / Sao Paulo 2 weeks in late August
One city or both? I have been to Colombia and Tijuana hundreds of times. Lived on the beach in Baja. P4 P is not my only interest. The ocean & beach scenery would be as nice as the girls. I have read & read posts of distinction and many other pages. And see more posts / people going to Rio than Sao Paulo. Yet seems that quality is a bit higher in Sao Paulo. Maybe more tourist traps in Rio but more girls with a little English? I would rather do ONE city but I'm open to seeing both. Any recommendations?
