Spent a little time in Buzios this trip and I think the place is greatly overrated. It has few of the things I like and many of the things I don't like. The beaches are small and crowded (even now) and everywhere you go someone has their hand out. Can recommend Restaurante do David and renting a dune buggy from Sun Place. Copacabana Atlantico Resort was nice, but overpriced at $R380 a night.

There also were too many Americans trying to impress everyone with who they were, what they have and their extensive knowledge of the world. I get enough of those pompous asses in the US, don't need them here too.

Ilha Grande on the other hand was a very relaxing time. People were friendly, helpful and not always looking for a tip. There were clean secluded beaches and more of a real well-travelled international crowd.

Taxi to either is about R$200 – R$250. There are also bus services to both. With Ilha Grande you will need to either take a ferry or schooner to the Island from Angra Dos Reis or Mangaratiba.

Sao Paulo Litoral Norte is much better than Buzios. It's much more happening and the surroundings are much more beautiful.

The two most happening beaches in LN are definitely Camburi and Maresias. It's IMO the best beach scene in Brasil. Imagine Buzios WITHOUT low-class vacationers WITHOUT gringos WITH a good atmosphere and WITH upper class Paulistas all around. Those beaches are also favorites for pot-smokers, with a laid back, surfer vibe (there's nice waves for who likes body surf). Nightlife is great also. Maresias and Camburi's main clubs, Sirena and Galeao, are ranked among the top five clubs in Brasil. The best international Djs regularly perform there during summertime. Non-pro potential is very good in both places, yet personnaly I've had better chances in Galeao (crowd is a bit older).

There's lots of accommodation alternatives (pousadas) yet I strongly recommand the Pousada Canto do Camburi. It's the kind of place where you feel at home and you want to stay one month ... or more !

I have been to both Buzios and Angra dos Reis/Ilha Grande, and like ET, I greatly prefer Ilha Grande. Not only for the beaches, but Buzios also feels like a Brazilian version of Carmel by the Sea in California (which is exactly what it is, considering that Brigitte Bardot discovered the place in the 60s, turning it into the latest destination for the international jetset).

I'll try to answer your questions:

Takes about three hours to get there from Rio. You hit the highway Rio-Sao Paulo, and after about two hours of getting out of the city, you get to Itacuruçá([url]http://www.itacuruca.com.br[/url]), which is the drop-off point for excursions to the tropical islands in the Baia de Sepetiba. From there, the highway continues to Angra dos Reis ([url]http://www.ilhagrande.com.br[/url]) for about an hour. The last hour-and-a-half of the drive are pretty spectacular, especially between Itacuruçá and Angra dos Reis ([url]http://www.angra-dos-reis.com[/url]). As others have mentioned, you can take boats to Ilha Grande from either Angra dos Reis or Mangaratiba. Considering that it is an island, there is no other way to get there.

When I stayed there in April 2006, I actually bought a package including two days hotel, BF, transportation to an from Rio. Total cost was about 300 Reais or so (triple occupancy). Any major travel agency in Rio can set up a package for you. I'll look up the agency that booked my tour and the place I stayed (though the place was nice, it was WAYYYYYYYYYYY out of the way, so I am not sure I can exactly recommend it).

You have two options: either stay on Ilha Grande or in Angra. It you want anything, anything resembling a nightlife or infrastructure, I suggest you stay in Angra. If you just want to get some rest and relaxation for a few days, Ilha Grande is fine. In any case, Angra has more hotels and a few ATMs or something resembling a touristy infrastructure. You might consider staying in Angra and just do daytrips to Ilha Grande (takes about an hour to get there).

Check out the websites I provided, you will tons of different places to stay there.

P4P: probably some in Angra, like in all Brazilian cities, but I have never explored any. Probable best to bring some from Rio. I sure have seen tourists traveling with locals that, yes, clearly looked like GDP, so I am sure it has been done before. On Ilha Grande, I seriously doubt there is any.

Back in town for business.

Had picked up a phone number from Daniella at Baton Rouge and thought that a Sunday afternoon tryst would be worthwhile.

Called, she answered and we agreed on 2 and a half hours completo with multiple amor sessions.

Daniella arrived dressed nicely as you can see. She was over the top. DFK, 69, multiple positions, and completo to the max. All for 250 R$ and some chocolate and a couple of Smihrnoff Ice drinks. Repeated with her at Baton Rouge later in the week. This lady is incredible. Has a 3 year old daughter but is built for making love.

During the week I visited Reb's several times and found Loreni and Ellis.

Ellis thought I was mad at her since Loreni was the favorite lady this trip. The interesting part is that they are sisters. This is to much of a coincidence. Durning my last brief trip that to Ribierao Preto I took them both for a R$ 100 each and the chemistry was better with Loreni. Ellis give me a tough time about getting a bigger hardon for Loreni than her.

In the end, I saw Loreni 4 times this week and Ellis once. Both are excellent and like to recieve as well as provide oral.

I have no idea where you found her in SP. I have been many times to Rio, Salvador, and Natal. I will be in Rio for all of June, and I just might have to take a side trip to SP to find garotas like the one in pic 029. Thanks for the pics.

Are these places safe? I am well travelled globally, so am careful with my belongings, etc. But at Ilha Grande / Angre, can you, for example, go for a walk (among other things:)) with the chica on the beach at night?

Any other recommendations for safe and (semi-)tourist friendly places around Rio for a 2-3 day short trip? I am going to shoot for a take-out from Rio, so the place doesn't have to be active mongering wise.

Any tips / suggestions on getting a chica for such a visit - where to look, what to look for, how much to pay, how to negotiate, etc? The first time I visited Rio it was an initiation. Many visits later, I would say it is potentially user-friendly as there is so much info available once you have got your sea legs and know where to look and it´s very easy to get about.

I could recommend cities at home that are very easy to get to grips with and ones of the same size that are very hard. If I just go for five days I don´t want to spend most of it trying to find places, walking loads or spending heaps on taxis. I´ve done places in easy reach of Rio like Paraty and Macae, but wanted to do somewhere a short flight away. Brasil is such a big and apparently endlessly wonderful country I feel a bit of an ignoramus not knowing more of it.

Recommendations?

My personal favourite cities, after Rio, are Manaus, Fortaleza and Salvador.
To really enjoy Manaus and get a good grip of the city you'll need more than a couple of days. So that leaves Fortaleza and Salvador as two good options.

I would recommend Fortaleza for a short trip. There are usually cheap flights from Rio. It's very easy to get familiar with the city. Mongering-area is very concentrated, in Iracema and Beira Mar. Low prices on the GPs, hotels, aptos, restaurants etc. Excellent nightlife. Good non-pro action.

I went several times to Ilha Grande, in late Jan. or after Carnival (March).
I never heard of any security problem on the island. The harbour Abrão is safe indeed, or at least it is during peak season. At this time of the year, the harbour is a bit crowdy - therefore your main problem IMHO could be to find an empty place. There is police on the island, BTW, not looking much more friendly nor voyeur than anywhere.

For a romantic shag under the stars, I would personnaly suggest to try the smaller beaches on your righthand when you look to the sea. There is an easy trail going for 20' or so (expect rapacious mosquitoes) to Abrãozinho, a lovely cove. There is a restaurant on the beach, closing early. Should be lovely. By day, you may go there by boat (2 R$ by daytime if I remember, don't know about nocturnal charters). I'm sure you may find a discrete boatman on the dock to drop you there and possibly to catch you back (bet you'll be a bit too exhausted to walk back). Or you may prefer him to stay and watch!

Finally, I recommend to come here with your honey, as they are few opps on the island (just a couple of non-pro's from the hotels staff + the tourists, usually arriving in hords, not easy preys!).
