The road is now completed there and it doesnt even resemble this photo now. However, the sign is the same. Quick 10 minute walk from Line8 Siping Rd.

This is my first time in China, do not speak any Mandarin, etc.. Just as a background.
Went to HE on a Friday afternoon around 3pm. Guys out front usher you upstairs and the place is very nice and although they spoke no english, it was not necessary as you can just follow them and they lead you to where you change, take a shower and wait.
Brought some tea and fruit to my waiting area where I was alone, although there were other guys in the sauna/shower area.
Maybe a 20 minute wait and then brought out to a lineup of 4 girls. 3 were not that good, one (#310) was cute, petite, and young. She walks me to the room, says a few words in english and then does a standard routine as others have described. The cat, finger sucking, toe fucking, going through the motions service was boring. Tried chatting in English, tickling, etc. To liven it up, but to no real help. (as a general note, I have no problem getting girls to laugh, feel comfortable, etc. In situations and have dated asian girls, so, I realize that there are cultural differences/styles and as a real gf, it is totally different, but regarding providers, I prefer south american warmth/GFE to "asian" style which I find more young/fake innocent style. If the girl works in a brothel, how can she try to pull off being "innocent/pure/childish? ")
Personally, did not find the quality of girls or the service I got that great. But considering it was 600rmb (less than $100) one cannot complain imo. But the quality is a far cry from what I find in Brazil or LA.
When I left, I spoke with the GM who said that it had been a busy time and that is why only 4 girls. So maybe I had leftovers. He said at other times, there are 12-20 girls in the lineup, but after 7pm it is 700 rmb vs 600 rmb.
That being said, if there is a higher quality place or if someone can give me the name of a KTV where I can find better looking/model type girls for Saturday or Sunday night, that would be much appreciated. At this point, I am looking to find a better looking/more fun atmosphere and if takeout or FS is not a sure thing, that is ok. Will take my chances.

Speaking of nice KTVs, has anyone been to the Imperial Business Club (DiGuoShangWuHuisuo) on Changshou Rd on top of the electric appliances store? The exterior sure looks nice. Heard it is really expensive, but they have nice models.

a bit of a rambling post, but i just had to write this down.
a non-mongering friend visiting from out of town wanted to go out, so we wandered into the french concession. we ended up at zapata's. damn, timing was so off. tonight i actually would have had my place to myself. rare. but have my friend staying over. so no fun for me. the wg at the bar were out in force. this was only my second time to zapata's, and this time i managed to get accosted by pretty much every wg lining the back of the bar. damn. a few real hot ones too. i'll have to go back once my friend leaves and i have another rare moment with my place free. however, i'll probably check out manhattan first
anyway. i'm with my friend and some newly acquired friends when this cutie makes eye contact with me and makes her way over to my "crowd". she starts dancing with us and introduces herself. seems like a real sweet girl. but "strangely" forward. i knew something was up. she asked the same familiar wg questions but never jumped to the big "want to massage. " question like the other wg jumped to so quickly. she held my hand and asked if i wanted to go outside to talk. i was. uh. sure. we found a quiet corner and chatted for a while. she then asks if i like to play pool. sure. she says she knows of a place close by. considering the session of stupidity i put myself through on nanjing road, i'm almost jumped up and bolted back into the club, but i didn't. i let her take me to where ever this place was. actually, we just walked down dongping and into one of the quiet bars there. ok, now i was really paranoid. inside was a group of fairly cute young cuties looking a bit bored. the place was dead. no one but the girls and the bartender. actually, i did notice one older white dude who eventually headed out the door. anyway. i was not going to let my nanjing road experience repeat itself. i was asked if i wanted a drink. first i refused. my "girl" got a bit offended wondering why i was so worried. i told her i had my reasons but that i didn't mean to offend. i settled on a coke and a drink for her. then i asked about the pool. how much. apparently it's free as long as you're there. this turned out to be true. one of the other cuties came back with the bill. not so bad. 90rmb for my coke on my "girl's" drink. in the end that's all i spent there. so i successfully deflected whatever scam there may have been.
we played a couple of games of pool. it was fun but all the while i was waiting for the next shoe to drop. it never really did. a couple of the other girls came up after the first game and asked if i wanted to play double with two more girls. i told them one was enough. then they started asking those same typical wg questions. it came out that i know how to speak a bit of mandarin and that sent them giggling and rushing back to their seats. i gave them the "i know what you're up to, now behave. " it was cool. they laughed, let me be and watched us play our second game. damn, they were cute. i'd go back to play pool with them just have to stay on guard for the drink purchases.
after our second game, my "girl" asks if i want to go to the back and sit and talk. sure. we wander back to a small area with couches. my "girl" asked if i wanted another drink, and if i could buy her another. i refused. she, again a little offended, offered to buy this round herself. i said, sure, go ahead. she did. another coke for me but a water for her. she gave the girl a 100 note and that was that. i know she didn't really pay. and me ordering a coke and her getting a water was pretty much a wash. nothing was really ordered.
we sat and talked. and cuddled a bit. i told her my nanjing road story and explained how know some games are played. i played along and apologized to her. i know she's "playing a role" but she was really sweet about it and didn't seem at all like my horror story from the other night. i think they're simply hostess bar girls. still working for the bar but not nearly as aggressive and actually quite pleasant to be with. we exchanged numbers and continued chatting. she asked again about another drink but i told her that i really needed to get back to my friend (who i had now abandoned at zapata's). she was ok about it. we got up and walked back to zapata's. on the way back i noticed another "hostess bar" some older dude was making out with one of the girls, saying his "goodbye". now i'm curious to go back and have a closer now educated look. my "girl" and i wandered back to zapata's and found my friend. i left her there and went home.
i have no idea if anything "fun" comes from these encounters. she was quite affectionate but we really did nothing. next time, sans friend, i'll see what happens.
it felt a bit like the hostess bars in thailand with the difference that i never got to the point where you take the girl home and have "fun".
in the end it was a pleasant little encounter that didn't leave my wallet feeling raped. even without sex, it was fun. i must say, after frequenting the sauna's here, it's a nice change to have somewhat of a gfe-like time. makes me miss thailand.

I'm not one who frequented the big sauna's, so this may be where I differ with others. I didn't find it to be what everyone said. To me, it was not much different, just less overt. Take a walk, the fish bowls were not as plentiful and obvious, but you have to be pretty naive to not know that when you walk up to a shop with 10 girls sitting in chairs in short dresses, that the game is on. Especially at 10 pm at night, not too many guys are looking for a hair cut.
So, my friends, be careful, but take a stroll, look around, be peaceful and inquisitive, stop in and chat, and you will find what you seek.

Joe you been out of Shanghai too long mate. These are simple basic straightforward as they come hostess bars.
There used to be a whole street of them on Tongren Lu and now there is Datong Mall and also the few near Zapatas, a couple more near the Hilton and I'm sure other places where straight off the boat laowais can go to get fleeced and not get any sex.
I always take friends visiting China to these bars because they feel like big studs when the girls straggle all over them and get all potty asking for lady drinks for 50+RMB which are usually coke or lemonade.
The way to do it is to make sure every lady drink you buy her is straight tequila. Costs u the same and gets them
fucked the hell up which can usually result in plenty of DFK, but getting laid from these girls requires big investment, patience or serious luck.
They can be great fun if you are aware of the game and the cash required to play.

My buddy the travel agent phoned me and offering me all these el cheapo flights to Shanghai from Hong Kong - HK$1,200 R/T +- - plus he says that the hotel rates have really all gone down quite drastically.
What's the story here?

Almost identical deal, played pool with a couple of girls, bought a few drinks for the same as what you paid, the place was packed with hotties, and no other guys, and none of the other girls came over. Of the girls that were palying pool, one was hot and the other a troll, but she never seemed to get the hint to f-off.
I spent the entire time waiting to have my wallet emptied, but it never happened, nor did anything interesting. It seems to be kind of like a strip club - looky no touchy and kind of lame.
This may be sauna week, and I have a nice piece of takeout on call from a local massage place that is working out nicely, really cute little spinner with very limited English, but seems to have a few friends on call that can help translate for her over the phone.
