My take on the Isla de Rosarios
Thanks Malo for sharing your views with us, but I would like to elaborate on the Rosario Islands. I think it is a waste of time and money. The beaches are no better than in Cartagena. There is really nothing to do on the island other than lay in the sun or go swimming in the ocean. You will also not find any single women there, as it is all couples. There is one restaurant but it is nothing special. If you leave from Cartagena at approximately 8:30 - 8:45 in the morning, you get to the island around 10 or so, and then you return at 3:30. If you are going to go, you are going to take a date with you, so this trip becomes quite expensive, especially so considering you get very little out of it that you cannot get right on the beach in Cartagena, with the exception of a boat ride with 30 other people, and that is on the faster of the boats that go to the Isla de Rosarios.
Personally I would not recommend it to anyone. There are much better ways to spend your time in Cartagena.
Perhaps you were somewhere else?

I have been to Isla Del Rosario and Playa Blanca several times and I must say there is no comparison with the beaches in Cartagena! They are not the same! The sand is white and the water is crystal clear such as most Caribbean destinations.
However, it is not a Mongering place but as others stated a nice relaxing change of pace. Company is a must!
Most of the boats return around 3-3:30 due to the change in tide and the rough waters that follow. Unless you stay the night plan on leaving early in the morning to make it worth it.
If you don't like being cramped in a boat with 30 others like a sardine, you may do what I have in the past. There are several marinas close to the main departure launch where you can negotiate and hire a boat for the day.
My mate and I did this with our two chicas for a total cost of 230K CP. Had a great time stocked up on beverages and had a personal captain for the day!

Coming from a guy who has probably never been to Colombia
Beaches no better that in Cartagena? What nonsense. I was on a white sand beach with blue waters, where in Cartagena do you see that?
The Rosarios islands is an day trip you take with a chica of your choice. Not someplace to go party and pick up chicas.
Sylvester,
You have made 70 reports, but not one actual field report to show you have been in Colombia, moreless in Cartagena, the Isla de Rosarios, or even in Colombia for that matter. Your 70 posts are consumed with criticizing others, asking questions, or posting information that you more than likely gained from reading other members reports here on the ISG.
My question is why have you not posted any field reports of your actual trip experiences in Colombia? I again just went back through your 70 posts, which are all about Colombia and the Dominican Republic, BUT NOT ONE TIME have you posted any first hand information. Your credibility my friend I am sorry to say is zero!
Jackson got on Nibu for posting about his fantasy vacations, and for always criticizing others, and I hope he does the same to you, as I am sure you are going to be responding back with an insult as your posting history will show. At least 25 to 50 percent of your posts are of this nature. Since Jackson reviews every post on the Colombian forum, I am sure he will understand what I am talking about.
