Seems that it became popular in Japan first, but no one quite knows the origin.
Its become such a trend in Asia that the kids are just copying others and don't even know why they do it exactly.
So all meaning has gone. An asian person could look at photos and not even notice all the people doing the V.
Thai kids do like to make rabbit's ears behind someone's head for a joke too.
Another sign used by Thai kids in photos involves the thumb and forefinger both sticking out with back of hand facing the camera, maybe under the chin, like in the shape of a gun. Thai people call this sign "Gek Lor" I believe. I but I don't really understand it. Maybe just a variation on the V.
On a tangent.
When I first came to Thailand I noticed all those people sticking patchy white powder on there cheeks and forehead, like flour was stuck there with water, and thought it looked very strange. Maybe there to keep cool?
When asking Thais about it, its like they just don't notice people have white powder stuck on the face. Its just so normal to them.

Not lost, just keeping a low profile - and I guess you can easily figure out the reasons why, they both start with "w" ...

Yeah, would've loved to be there - even more so now that I know that I was missed (hey, Dr. G. you don't have to hide behind "someone") ;)
But I'll be around again in a few months - and will have to find a very good pretext and cover to visit the Lodge unless I want parts of me to be fed to the ducks!

YY
Yin Yang,
"W"ife and "W"ork ?
Now - though our highly intellectual late-night discussions about 'The Holy Bible' are of course missed it is more the Auntie who dreams about more than that ... and for that you also should try to prevent your best parts from being fed to the ducks :) !
Hope to see you soon.

Giotto,
Stayed at your establishment a couple of months ago and of course it was everything I had hoped for and more. Going to be coming again this year, as soon as I finalize the dates I will be making a reservation. What I would like to ask you and your crew is, I need a good tailor in the area and wondered if you or Mrs G, knew of one that can be trusted, so if you have any advice as to who to see when I am staying at your place I would appreciate the information.
Thank you in advance,
Weird One

Dr. G, I am impressed. Your intellect remains unaffected by all those late nights and gallons of red wine in the sports bar!
... you also should try to prevent your best parts from being fed to the ducks :) !
I surely will - and so should you ;)
See you soon - YY
As we are talking about high intellect, and also about CIM, and about food, and about Thai culture etc, here is a somewhat strange Thai commercial: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=HlVXyWEW55U&feature=related
I got the link from Dean Barrett's site, who happens to be enamoured with the same coyote dancer in Moyos (the one that looks a bit like a vampire) that Mick licked... so sorry, that Mick LIKED, when we went there with our flower girls :D
Weird One,
We have checked out some tailors around here - we will be able to give you some recommendations.
Giotto
Centaurus, that was hilarious.
If you don't mind, I am going to post a link in the jokes and humorous stories thread, so others who do not read the thai thread can enjoy it also.
Well, maybe "enjoy" is the wrong choice of words. ;)
so now we know why there hasn't been any update of G's massage parlour guide for quite a while: he ain't got the balls to do it (anymore) - they were fed to the ducks
Is everybody on vacation or is the Lodge not open anymore?

Duni, I have tentative plans to be there next week, with 2 hot 30 year old Balinese girls, who loves to wear short skirts, and go out drinking on soi cowboy. I could use a wingman.

Brother 1Ball... how I miss our visits and unfortunately no matter how much you begged me I can not get away and assist you. However, you need more then a wingman with those two women... you a suitcase full of Vitamin C and V with a hand carry of protein powder :) But make sure "D" Brings the hand cuffs to tie you down as you are a randy bestard and I'm sure Giotto has some tongue depressers on hand if you need any...
Please give "D" my love and the other one you send her my email address ;)
