Restaurants will be open, and you can buy food in the supermarket the day before to make sure you have something for breakfast.
Thanks much! All things being right (looming snow storm in my neck of the woods etc), I would be getting to Sosua around mid day of the 25th and hence the "day before" options are out. Italian, German, English, any cake would do; hopefully, I would be able to lay my hands on a bottle of Prosecco or similar at the airport as well.
Also, Charles Pooter, thanks much for the brunch invite but not sure if I will make it. Perhaps the evening of the 25th?
Speaking of openings and closings, there is a lot of activity going on at Rumba, bar furniture is in place, and they were checking out the sound system.
Across the street on the corner at the boarded up Bermuda Bar and Cigar there's a brand new "For Rent" sign. Looks like the bar where I first fell in love with Sosua years ago, may re-open soon. With the asking rent $2,000 per month, you'd need to sell quite a few Presidente!
That high tech steel fabricated roof, which covers D'Latin looks like it is ready to be walled in too.
Soon new Sosua could look a little more like the old Sosua?
Good info. Thanks for this.
Also, Charles Pooter, thanks much for the brunch invite but not sure if I will make it. Perhaps the evening of the 25th?
If you have only hand-luggage you could come straight to the Malecon from the airport. I could wait until 3 pm but no later or I will starve to death. Besides, I suspect even a slave-driver like Hans will let his staff leave earlyish on Christmas Day if things are quiet. If you want to do that, confirm by email ASAP and I will tell Hans to wait for us. If I hear nothing from you I will be lunching at 12 noon.
The only person I know who arrived here on Christmas Day was a relation of mine and Thailand vet who had a miserable trip. He moaned about everything and embarrassed me in front of everyone. I know that won't apply to you. You have the right approach to enjoying the DR. If we do not meet, have a good trip!

Hi chuck PM me
I have a friend who is thinking about making the move to the DR. He only knows Sosua. Was hoping I could get some of your insight as to where the best places to move and ball park living expenses.
If you have only hand-luggage you could come straight to the Malecon from the airport.
Sorry but I had a computer crash a while back and the email address got lost in the melee. Thanks much for also offering to wait until 3 PM (which I would not, LOL). I do travel only with cabin luggage but the thing is I am getting to Santiago and not to POP, which complicates the matter (in addition to weather) and so I would ask you to please go ahead without waiting for me. By the way, do send me a pm with your email (or email direct), if you would, and if our paths were to converge: I should be free the evening of 25th or perhaps Boxing day.
It would be curious to be there on Christmas day as I get varying thoughts on what would and would not be open that day but it is only one day. So no way, I would allow that to spoil my mood while there.

Advise on Sosua.
After reading ISG posts and doing research on the internet, I am planning a weekend trip to POP and sosua in January end. Any information provided will be helpful.
I will fly down to POP from ewr or Jfk, How can I go from POP to sosua, I have read that cabbies are ripoff. Any suggestions?
Which are guest friendly and clean hotels to stay in Sosua?
One of the site suggested to go on Dominican cupid and find a match who will visit Sosua. Any experience with this website. The subscription is expensive.
How will be the weather in January and will girls available during that month.
Any fellow mongers planning their trip during that period. It will be nice to have a company.

Christmas Day 2017.
As I got to STI, went to the duty free store to look for a bottle of Prosecco or similar. On asking, they mentioned that most places were closed (and they were) but the restaurant in front of PUCMM, will remain open. Some of you may know it. Rather swanky and pricey. Frequented by the Santiago elites. They were right. I rented my vehicle and headed for that place and had a decent breakfast (home fries sucked big time) there prior to driving for Sosua. Roads were empty. I did the highway as it has been raining constantly followed by bouts of sun.
Sosua. Bailey and other places were open as were a few local places and so food was a non-issue. Playero was open until 7 PM and so that was another surprise. Had food in the hotel room (with my guests) along with coronas to down that. At night, went to New Garden. Had my mind only for dessert and so had a decent slice of tiramisu along with cappuccino plus a swig of Grappa, followed by a cigar. Went to bed early as did not catch a wink the night before.
This morning, Sosua is all agog as usual. Exchange rate at WU / Caribe 48.1 to the USD. All is alive and well.

I fly into Santiago but a cab from Puerto Plata airport I think it's like a flat fee standard $25 but I could be wrong.
As far as DCupid I've done that and you can meet some girls there if you're wanting to pout in the work chatting back and forth by if you want easier action just wait til you get there all the street girls will be waiting for you.

You can also rent on Airbnb, but make sure that you email in advance if girl friendly. You don't need to find a match in Sosua. Plenty of girls available there. Use DC if you go somewhere else.
I am planning a weekend trip to POP and sosua in January end.
A whole weekend? Sure you can spare that much time? By the time you have amortized the cost of travel over your measly (two?) nights, your sex is going to come very expensive. Surely you can use that money to find girls in the US and save a lot of hassle?
How can I go from POP to sosua, I have read that cabbies are ripoff. Any suggestions?
You are right that many private cabs here overcharge, which is why guys are switching to Uber, but the fare from the airport to Sosua is a fixed charge shown on a board outside the arrivals area. It used to be US $25 (recent travellers may update this) which is expensive for the distance, but anything else would be too much hassle for a newbie with little time to waste. Most experienced mongers still use this standard cab service unless their hotel is arranging a pick-up or they are renting a car.
Which are guest friendly and clean hotels to stay in Sosua?
You claim to have read the board. This subject has been exhaustively discussed.
One of the site suggested to go on Dominican cupid and find a match who will visit Sosua. Any experience with this website. The subscription is expensive.
A lot of guys claim success with that method, but hardly worth it just for a weekend. A couple of no-shows or bait-and-switches and you will have wasted most of your trip. You will have plenty to see and do in that short time. And if the subscription is expensive that will only push up the cost of sex for a short visit. Maybe try it when you come back for a longer trip.
How will be the weather in January and will girls available during that month.
The weather will be generally very pleasant, but if you are only coming for 2/3 days there is always the outside chance that you could be unlucky. But even if it does rain in the daytime it will not greatly interfere with your mongering. There are plenty of girls in January.

New Garden Restaurant.
This place is getting better with time. I had Guinea fowl for dinner tonight (an Italian speciality this time of the year) - oven roasted along with potato wedges flavored with rosemary, downed with a glass of red, followed by a fantastic chocolate mousse and the grand finale of a bit of grappa. The Chef Gian Luca is a great cook and attentive to details. Any one visiting Sosua, Italian food aficionados and anyone that has not been to Italy, must visit the restaurant.
It has been raining a lot here. At night and during the day with Sun coming up drying the place out. Temperature is a balmy 75 compared to sub zero of my home town now.

Boots on the ground.
The place called High Caribbean is have a low point. While passing by the other night, I stay at a hotel that side, noticed it was all dark. Today, stopped and spoke to a chica working in a banca right opposite. She said it has been a couple of weeks that the place closed. Lack of high flyers?
BTW, anyone knows a good place for pedi and manicure and at what price? I pay 350 pesos in Santiago for both. Thanks in advance.
