Copa Airlines is great if in your or you can still search requirements w them. On the bottom left on their main page ([URL]https://www.copaair.com/en-us/[/URL]) they have a "check your travel requirement" page where you can verify what you must have to enter Brazil. And yes that Yellow Fever vaccine section is on there and their answer is no. I searched and used them since they are correct on the E-Visa requirement that will be effective on 4/10/24 for US / CA residents whereas Avianca as the wrong date and had to ditch them LOL. Kudos to Copa!

There are only major two banks that take overseas cards: Santander and Bradesco. The commission is now 10% and 11%, up from 8% last year. Not good.

Itau, Banco do Brasil and God forbid, Caixa ATMs don't accept foreign cards, though someone told me Itau resumed handling foreign cards, an expat German woman told me it didn't.

Here in Porto Alegro, the main bank is Banrisul, and it has its own proprietary network. It doesn't take foreign cards, nor much of anything else. Commissions on transactions with overseas cards are now up to 16% , which is displayed on the card reader, often to the amazement of the cashier, who is not familiar with all the extra screens that are generated when a foreign card goes through the reader. Then there is no conversion fee and your home bank gives you close to spot rate. They always try to trick you on this. Like at the Banco 24 horas ones it now says "CANCEL conversion" which is scary and makes you think you are cancelling the transaction. You are not. You are just declining local conversion at their exhorbitsnt rates. Always decline / cancel conversion.

You need it to enter Colombia if you depart from Brazil.

I think I see why there is a your mile may vary when it come to ATM. With Wise and Revolut, I guess it depend on your home country, your fee may be different from my. I'm in the US. As for if your ATM will work or not, something have changed last year with Brazilian banking system. My guess is you are no long able to get money from a bank ATM with Visa card. I went to both Visa and Mastercard website, and search their ATM locator. I search for Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro. There one or two Bank ATM with Visa. Where as for Mastercard there is alot of bank ATM. Maybe the reason why Revolut did not work for me was my card was a Visa card.

[/QUOTE]Are you carrying a burner that has a physical sim so that you can add a sim later upon arrival into Rio? If you have a phone that has one physical and one eSIM, then I assume you just swap out your original sim for the new one for Brazil.

Since my phone has two esims, I tried to get my friend to get me a prepaid eSIM (using his cpf) for Brazil but it works out to be too expensive for a just a few days of use. Easier to buy an eSIM online with 5 GB of download for the time I spent there.
