This is a few tips mostly for our tourist visitors:

Make sure you prepare yourseves for Songkran.
Songkran is the Thais New Year and they celebrate it by Throwing water at people.

1. Be ready to be wet.
2. Do not be agressive towards people who spray you with water.
3. Keep smiling! Songkran is a Big Party and as the Thais say : Sanook.

I always end up wandering around during songkran so obviously I get more than my share of water LOL.

I however try to prepare myself the best possible way:

1. I buy a cheap cellphone from MBK (300thb) that i use for Songkran, so if water goes inside, I don't care!
2. Always have enough cash with you, do not take your credit card
3. Keep your valuables (phone, Wallet...) in a plastic bag in your pocket.
4. wear clothes that dry fast (swimming shorts, t-shirt)
5. Avoid walking around shirtless, this is rude
6, you can also have an extra T-shirt with you in the plastic bag.

Avoid Moto-taxis and TukTuks, they are highly dangerous because people will be throwing water at you and the driver and not think that the bike might lose its balance and crash.

The bars will be open for Songkran, it is seen as high season. Besides, most girls will be working. If they miss a day at the bar, the bars charge them 400 thb per day they are missing.

Expect a lot of ladies to be working and partying.
