15 years ago a gal waiting tables did not make enough money to survive. Now that has changed. I see signs all the time on restaurant doors offering 15 k plus tips. The gals you list: hotel cleaning staff, shop assistants, etc also make far more than they did 10 short years ago.
Who wants to just "survive"? People want to live, be happy, healthy, comfortable, travel, thrive, and have security for their future decades in this world.
Fifteen thousand baht ($500) isn't going to cut it if you need to take care of your family, to pay off gambling debts, a get out of jail card for a sibling & dozens of other situations that compel a girl to enter the PFP market. If you want quality medical care the free system in Thailand falls short.
I would hope that people make more today than they did 10 years ago. Otherwise their standard of living will have declined as prices ever continue to climb due to worldwide inflation.
As I stated below paid a living wage most women will choose not to work as a prostitute.
That is mainly due to religious & cultural brainwashing.
No doubt many nymphos think of it as the ideal profession.
If they cannot pay their bills or if they are incredibly greedy as the girl you site above, then they will. Few are that greedy. Hence what you see in the FL scene today; the greedy, the not so bright, and the downright lazy.
It's not greed to take care of your family. In Thailand it is a sacred duty. That's why it's sex industry is top of the world & will likely remain so for many years to come.
Mate, I agree with everything you say. However included in your post was this little nugget:
You clearly have a higher opinion of the average American woman than I do! .
Good point! Esp the ones who work at minimum wage jobs but I figure just giving HJ's and BJ's for rock bottom prices would still make you more than at McD's. On the other hand I have seen photos of some USA escort girls going for $300 an hour and I would not pay Sukhumvit street prices for them. Men back home are desperate for any kind of physical contact. 5 min lap dances go for $20-$30 now? Has to be better than making fries all day but not a lot of women are willing to go that route back home and less and less here.
Maybe you expect a girl to work hard in a porno MP, have no choice of customers, and be eager to fucked in the ass 6 times per day, with 50% plus of the customers being psychos? Those freelancers who want it better, choosing customers, don't thrash the pussy and ass, are just greedy, stupid and lazy. Ha Ha. I think you have a bad attitude. Everyone takes the best paid job they can tolerate to do.
The most important thing for a freelance bargirl I know is that she chooses her customers carefully, rarely taking a guy she doesn't know well already. I would describe her as "determined". She makes well over 5 times the money she could otherwise get (possibly 10 times when business is good), yet she doesn't have to do CIM, anal, or be fucked so many times per day, and takes only very nice customers, not the freaky ones that mostly visit porno shops. Perhaps I don't any typical freelancers, but my favourite girls are having freedom to choose. One has super looks and body, the other super performance and like a GF / gik. Happy to repeat them many times. Haven't even tried any new girl recently in Thailand.
When I used to visit Cat at Mango a while back, she explained that over 50% of the customers who were somewhat psycho to her evaluation, and she certainly didn't like them one bit. Maybe this meant just very demanding and wanting to do weird acts. However certainly not what she would call nice guys. I don't know the fine details. It wasn't surprising that she left. I find it much harder to understand how girls manage to work in MPs like this. I expect the quality of customers at a shop like Annies is pretty low too. I can understand some girls working a BJ shop so they can give the poor pussies a rest from the battering.
I am kind of baffled at some of your responses. The point is that there are fewer girls in the FL scene. The main reason is that they can make enough to live without resorting to prostitution now. Before they could not. So there is a choice and given that choice most gals will not go into prostitution. Therefore those in the "scene" now are not so bright or just plain lazy.
That is mainly due to religious & cultural brainwashing.
Cultural brainwashing is one of the reasons girls don't want to be prostitutes? That takes the cake for the silliest thing I have heard in years! Thank you. Because there certainly can't be any other reasons why girls would not want to be in a profession where they have to have sex with men they don't know or care for, men who are fat and ugly, where they have to drink to oblivion, where drugs are prevalent and where men abuse them and from time to time cut them into pieces. Yup. Cultural brainwashing. Now I understand.

As for the sex trade profession, girls don't have to do any of the things you listed & can still work in PFP.
There are various safeguards a working girl can use to make herself extremely safe from violence. I see TGs using them regularly. No doubt many TGs feel safer with a farang customer than the large percentage of Thai BFs who drink, gamble, cheat or use drugs. Or the taxi driver who takes her home after work. So overall from your response I suspect you, too, have been subject to religious or cultural brainwashing re sex work.
The Thais may be less hung up about PFP & have a higher number of PFP gals per capita than anywhere else in the world. That makes LOS one of the top destinations for this hobby & should continue to do so for many years to come.

" You are talking about the poorest class of folk in the country and of course it makes a perfect story to tell the farang.
You are right! The majority of the girls we are here or come for to dip our sticks is from the poorest class of Thais! In General, many I have met and know come from up north. No matter who I meet or where I go the story seem to be the same? Maybe as noted it is a line they use who really knows? All have babies at a early age and guy splits girls come to work in BKK or Pattaya. Parents either know or don't know or just turn their heads as long as the money keeps rolling in each month. Majority leave their babies behind for the parents or family member to take care. What I have found is many whether they are parents, Aunts, sister, who end up taking care of the child the child becomes attached to that family member as if they are the actual parents? Some if not many uses this as a form of blackmail and ask for more and more each month and it gets much worse if they find out she has a falang boyfriend.
The culture really has done a number on them making them the women think they have to blunt the responsibility while the men just sit and run like cowards. The standard and expectation for the men is less just as the standard for a Thai boyfriend is different than for a falang boyfriend.
Every girl I know working is taking care of their family one way or another. One girl BF driving drunk kills someone, judgement 300,000 baht, she working to pay it off, a year later the guy butterfly's take off. One girl brother gets caught selling drugs, goes to jail, she mortgage the house to pay the guards to protect him while in prison because the mother begs and put pressure on her yet there is a older and younger brother who have become free loaders while she lays on her back spreading her legs each night. One girl tells me she has to take care of her son, her little sister, little brother while the parents call each month for rent and the mother is the worse telling her when are you going to get a falang boyfriend so I can have a car, house, and the good life like other working girls I hear about in Isaan? This one girl one night was somewhat so drunk that the pressure was so great on her each month she wanted to kill herself that she was just so tired? Younger brother got young girl pregnant now girl parents blackmails her threatening to jail her son unless you pays 200,000 baht? story after story working girl taking care of family!
You are lucky you don't know any.

It is not a comment on farangs, it is a comment on the gals. 50 k 100 k, whatever. How many of these gals have you known that have actually taken this money and really done something with it? I don't mean build a house or send it to their parasitic families. Very few. And now fewer and fewer.
The business plan is as you stated above. Find man, take money. But you know what? Most of the time that does not work out so well for them and they are back out there a year, two, five, or ten later. Most of those arrangements are far from "permanent. " And they are completely at the whim of the guy they are with.
Family oriented? I would say well on the surface, but how family oriented is it when the moms and pops send their young daughters off to the P4 P industry at a young age?
If you would do a little research you would also find that Thailand does not have the most P4 P girls per capita.
During my tenure here I have seen disaster after disaster. SARS, the tsunami, the flood, and numerous political upheavals. Each time I think the place will go in the crapper. And it doesn't. It keeps developing and moving on.
But this time you may be right. That teflon might have worn off. We shall have to see. But I would not ever bet against the Thai people.

And I have the greatest respect for your point of view but here is how I see it from my experience and I recently had this discussion on another board with a foreigner a Lawyer who comes to Bangkok to work a month at a time? As far as I know and you might be the one to educate me but as far as I know Bangkok the capital is the only city in Thailand of it's kind? Bangkok as I know it is just a minority compare to the rest of the country. When you talk about the standard of living etc. It is a exception to the rule because the rest of the country does not provide the same wages or the type of jobs Bangkok offers?
They all care about their children but the poor seem to care in a different way? Outside of Bangkok is where the masses live Bangkok can only provide so many jobs for the country and Bangkok school system with their many International schools is way different the majority of the country too? The public school system is a sham and this point of view comes from their own scholars and has been recently written about in the Bangkok Post. Based on that although the numbers have decline there will always be a flow of P4 P because the masses are outside of Bangkok. This is a country of have and have nots and the majority are Nots!
I recently had a discussion in Pattaya with a Lawyer from England who was visiting Pattaya with his Thai lawyer co-worker pretty much about what we are discussing here who I met online and agree to meet him. He said after hearing what I had to say should look for a better class of Thais? I was thinking to myself this sounds like it is coming from two guys who think their shit doesn't stink? The Thai guy disagree with much of what I had to say. He said pretty much what you said and the Brit agree. The Thai guy came from a pretty good family with money and the Brit comes pretty much like he was on holiday see what the Thai guy takes him to see in my book the good part of Thailand. I said to the both of them have you guys ever slept in a room without A/C see, can you squak to take a shit like a real Thai, have you ever been up country and eaten with a family that lives in on a farm bugs all over your food and mosquitoes everywhere. The Thai guy didn't answer which was a no to me? The Brit of course no he saw only what the co-workers wanted him to see which was the good life of Thailand while he visited.
I basically told both of them if anyone needed to find a wider swath of people it was them! To the Thai guy I might be more Thai than you? The standard in Bangkok and people to me at least are not the rule of thumb?
