Newbie report on Cebu – part one
This was my first trip to Cebu, but I am pretty sure it won’t be my last. I had such a great time there that I stayed there almost the whole time, despite plans for going sightseeing across Philippines. Or you could just say I was lazy.
Want to share info with you guys on ISG, because I intensively read and use ISG before I go to a new place. This post will be split up into practical info part and my rambling part. Would appreciate feedback or comments on the rambling part. Also keep in mind that this post is based on my experiences and might thus not reflex the reality or ‘as it was experienced’ by others.
My background
Just came back from my trip in Cebu, during August (2009) I spend about 20 days in Cebu city. Before deciding on Cebu I considered going to Thailand (Pattaya), and Indonesia (Bali). After feedback from ISG members I settled on Cebu, because I was looking for GFE and I wanted to see a new place. So far I have been to Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Peru for mongering.
Getting started
I flew in from Frankfurt to Manilla and onwards to Cebu, this cost me 580 euro return by Gulf air. Can’t really recommend this airline, but it was cheap so can’t really complain either. Booked a promotion ticket online and this I can certainly recommend, since the next available ticket would have cost 900 euro. So it pays to shop online with various airlines. Manilla to Cebu I used Cebu pacific: p2600. Going Cebu-Manilla I payed P2000. Tickets can be bought at the airport itself, terminal 3. You pay much more, but I had no choice as my credit card wasn’t accepted online. Keep in mind that you need to pay airport tax, which is p750 in Manilla for international flights which is a hassle if you don’t know. P200 for domestic.
I brought euro cash with me but didn’t use it as I was able to withdraw peso’s from ATM. Could withdraw biggest amount with BDO: up to p15.000 (perhaps more didn’t try). Other banks would let me withdraw only up to p10.000. Don’t know what would have been cheapest (withdraw or bring cash), but I felt comfortable withdrawing each time because don’t want to walk around with lots of cash. It is very easy to just exchange money.
Was worried about the raining season, but turned out that I hardly got wet.
At Cebu airport, go outside and walk up a flight of steps across from the terminal to the area of the casino, it is better to get a taxi up there than the lower level. The non meter taxis will below will try to charge you P300 to P500 for a 'contract' fare into the city. You should be able to get a meter cab for around P150-P170 to Eddies hotel, add a P20 tip.
Hotels
Eddie’s hotel: Decent hotel, good location, standard room p1400-1600. Liked this hotel because it’s right in the middle of the bars and has wifi. Friendly people.
West Gorordo hotel: Good hotel, had a deluxe room for p2000. No wifi. GF-unfriendly but as I booked into it with my GF-of the moment, it was okay.
Northwind hotel: Near sunflower disco. Ended up staying here most of my days. Liked it because it was cheap, standard room p1288 (low season), has good wifi and no hassle, friendly management. Very GFriendly. At one time I had 3 girls sleeping in my room and no complains or anything.
Transportation
I mostly used taxi’s. Paid between p50 short rides and p150 long rides. No need to worry about being scammed but insist on meter. Sometimes used jeepney, p7 but hard to know their route. Everything is pretty much walkable except for the heat.
Bars
Mermaid
This bar is on Mactan. Went to Mermaid once- lot's of girls, nice layout to watch the dancers. 50 peso entrance fee. Liked the place with shows but bit out of the way, as it is in lapu-lapu. Friendly girls. Full of Koreans.
Lonestar:
Mango bar area. Went several times. Always plenty of girls, number of guys varies. It’s a low season. Good place to start. Girls friendly and decent looking.
SilverDollar
Not really my bar, more for long term expats. Girls seemed to be more naughty. Cheap to drink, barfine p750
Viking Bar
A big space with lots of red sofas and plenty of girls. Girls not pushy and enough so you can find good looking one. LD are p150. liked this place.
Temptation:
Big bar with lots of couches and booths. Girls were fun and no push to buy LD’s. It was late, so not that beautiful girls.
Club Arena
Went here once, hardly any girls. But our guess was that the girls were doing a line-up in the private rooms. So didn’t stay. Entrance fee, think p100
Love city
Nice place. Plenty of pretty girls, but expensive. LD is p270 and mostly Japanese and Korean. One of the few places were I saw girls take of their top.
Jaguar
Same as Club arena. Big place with huge number of girls, so you can always find one you like. Not pushy, you can just sit and watch the show. Expensive if you want to get a girl or LD. Entrance fee, think p100
Clubs
Juliana
Spend a lot of time in front of Juliana. You can get a table and sit and watch the girls walk by. Busy on a saterday. Around 3 – 3.30am, a lot of the girls from the bars come here. So if you don’t want to pay the barfine but still want a girl, you might meet her here. A lot of the girl are available, meaning for a price you can bring them home. Good place to meet ladyboys too, if that’s your thing. You can get a beer set for p200 (5 bottles with ice)
Pump
Went to pump twice. Here you can also get a table and watch the girls. Plenty of girls and seems a lot of them are available, but I never picked one up. A fun place just to watch the girls and boys meet and flirt or get one yourself.
“Girlfriends”
While in Cebu I never paid barfines, but did buy LD’s. Got several girls from bars, as I would meet them later in Juliana and gave them taxi money between p500 to p1000. They never asked for money but I felt I should give them something as I had a good time and they need money for taxi anyway.
DIA
Most of the girls I spend time with, were from Date in asia. It’s a good place to chat with girls to see what they are looking for (more on this in part 2). My record is 10 minutes, between first contact and her being in the taxi on the way to my hotel. Didn’t have sex with her, but she gave me a decent massage. I paid for the taxi as she had no money. I spend a lot of time on DIA chatting with girls and trying to separate the freebies from the relationship-minded. I guess my hit-ratio between chatting on DIA and meeting in person was something like 20%. It could have been higher (like 50%) but a lot lived far away or I didn’t want to meet them (ugly, scammers). The ratio between chatting and ending up in bed was pretty low, something like 10%. That’s why I spend a lot of time on dia, you need to work the numbers.
A contact would typically go like this; chatting on dia, making clear that I only wanted to have “fun” and not a wife or gf. First meeting in a mall for dinner, while they bring a friend. Then either karaoke, drinking or meeting next day. Going to my hotel and into bed only if they felt comfortable and know you are a nice guy. They would be freebies, but I gave them p1000 for their troubles and taxi. I found that most girls are so-so looking but hotties can be found.
I also met several girls that wanted to spend time with me on a kind of girlfriend basis. Meaning they would spend time with me as we would visit other places or just go to disco and dinner. Not a bad deal for them, as they can have good food, free drinks or free trip while they can sleep in a nice room with aircon. I would be sleeping in the same room, so certain bedroom activities were understood and enjoyed. I had several candidates and picked one that turned out to be very sweet. Good deal for me too as we liked each other a lot, good in bed and all around good experience. She did ask for money (p1000 for 2 weeks) but I didn’t mind as I also didn’t want to have a gf or wife. So the deal was, I could see other girls and she would get free trip and some cash. Eventually I gave her in total p8000 for a period of 10 days spend together. Totally worth it.
Overall
Cebu turned out to be better than expected. Nice bars, clubs and plenty of available girls. Plenty of hotties or just sweet girls too. One of the best things for me was the English fluency. I like to get to know a girl before I end up in bed with them or I just like to have company for dinner so it works for me if I can talk to them. What is also liked was the attitude of the girls, not as hardened or business-like as pattaya but more sweet and GFE. Plenty of freebies or GF-material to be found.
