I have found out if you call a hotel, ask them.

I would like to politely ask our American friends. Please, please, please do NOT bring your tipping culture to South America.
Tipping in most countries is NOT the norm. Lets keep it that way. Places like Cancun etc have been badly affected by the American tipping.
Culture, and the effect is not good for any of us.
