Mongering is getting more expensive in Bangkok,
but as has been pointed out it is cheaper than major cities in North America and Western Europe. Prices have risen in Bangkok and a US dollar no longer gets you forty-plus bahts. However, the favorable exchange rate was an aberration. Hotels are much cheaper in Bangkok, especially the high-end hotels. As FruitNinga recently pointed out a hotel in a first tier city in the USA comparable to the Sofitel would cost $500 a night. You can buy good street food for less than fast food in the USA; and high-end restaurants are much less expensive than comparable restaurants in the USA. For example, I have been to Zuma in Miami, Florida and Bangkok several times. The food, beverages, service and ambiance are comparable. But I spend less than half as much at the Zuma in Bangkok. The biggest difference is in the cost and quality of sex. A couple of weeks ago I went to a popular club in Miami. I spent several hours there, had several JW Blacks, bought a few drinks for a couple of the dancers. Had a good steak dinner and spent a couple hours in a backroom with a very attractive dancer. The room was comfortable but had no bed or shower, just a very large sofa. The lady was very attractive, in my opinion. I've attached three of many photos I've taken of her to illustrate what I consider attractive. She's twenty years old and wears a wrist band identifying her as too young to drink alcohol. I've been with this lady before; I was one of her first clients in the fall; and we've developed a good rapport. The first time with her was typical. Once we were in the backroom she was cold and mercenary. Though she claimed I was one of the first men to take her into a back room and she was nervous. Because of our relationship now the sex is much better than average for this type of venue in Miami. Still there was no DFK, and there was a CBJ and FS. In comparisons, every girl I've been with in Bangkok over the past two or three years provided a better sexual experience. As for cost, I got to use the private room for an additional half hour without being charged, and the girl gave me about 40% off the going rate at this club. The evening still ended up costing me over two thousand dollars.
I understand guys who have been living in Bangkok for a decade or more find the rising costs upsetting, if not downright painful. And it can be argued the costs in other cities are irrelevant if you are living in Bangkok. But if you weren't living in Bangkok, where would you live? Can you find a cheaper city offering as much as Bangkok? Depending on what you are looking for, that may not be so easy. If one is traveling from North America, a short stay is hard to justify. But if you're able to stay several weeks, Bangkok is a very reasonably priced place to monger.
