The DR is creating serious, threatening new immigration, residency rules for ex-pats
I got mine, the first stage
I estimate the cost of acquisition to be $2, 000 to $3, 000!
Temporary residency which is good for a year, paid an honest lawyer who speaks english about $1000. Led me by the hand thru the Bureau of Migration and then to another office. The 2nd stage is a residency card and a little less money, but when I go to renew after two years next March, I will go to a Bureau of Migration office here in Santiago and the cost will be about 3000pesos, I think. Won't need a lawyer. Residency is good to have for a drivers license, health insurance, and to show Dominicans I am living here in good faith. BUT. I'll always be a gringo.
