Some travel advice
Folks,
I realise this may sound like I am a total douchebag but I did RTFF and googled as much as what is possible living in a country where google is blocked. Still I made a promise and need rather short -term get to LOS with my GF.
Now my last visit is 20 years ago and my old strategy book a hotel for the first nights and then prolonge or find something else or move on seems to not work at all anymore. Most online provider require long time upfront booking and pre-payment?! Is it still possible to find decent hotels when you are onsite in Bangkok? And does this also apply for train tickets and hotels in other places like say Chiang Mai etc? Or are you completely fucked with outrageous walk in prices these days?
Any help would be appreciated also via PM. I will book a hotel near Siam Square / Sukhumvit to start with so I can use the BTS to sneak away for the mongering fun, so my only question is how to best book hotels / domestic flight or train tickets when you are already in Bangkok. Is there a good local travel site or reasonable travel agency? I just do not know what we will like to do and booking in advance from China has proven a nightmare.
Thanks for the help and if I manage to get fun FR is promised, check my posting history outside Thailand.

FA.
I an only speak from my own experience and for sure YMMV and other members will have done it differently.
Unless you want to go walking along the streets in a hot climate to find yourself the best possible hotel deal, I just click on www.booking.com and find me the best deal available. They do not require payment up front and their prices are inclusive of all taxes and service charges.
It is unlikely you will find better deals and for sure the time and effort lost in looking around in situ are not worth the small differences, if any at all.
The same goes for the travel. Gone are the days you needed to go through a travel agency. Now you buy your tickets on line directly from the airline. You cannot go any cheaper or more convenient than that.
For train travel you will have to go to the main train station to book your ticket. Espepcially for the long range trains and first class tickets you better do that a few days before you leave as these tickets are always in short supply.

I look up flights on kayak.com Eva London to BKK via some 3rd party website came to 520 pounds. Directly on Eva it was 630, not earning miles, and around 780 if you want to earn miles.
Booking.com is great. It's often when you pay in full you get a discount, which I don't recommend if you might need to change plans.

Thanks to all those who responded. It looks like a terrible week to be in Bangkok indeed. This may have been fun if you are 6 years old.
Sort of, at least. The best deals on booking.com require a non-refundable pre-payment using your credit card. Refundable deals are more expensive.
I certainly agree with Wolvenvacht that walking the streets of Bangkok, luggage in tow, looking for a good hotel deals seems like a bad idea. Don't do this. The only sensible thing is to book online. Same goes for domestic airfare.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rM0trEi2RJQ
Don't let everybody decide for you. You may like it. It's something everybody should experience once.
Now, IMHO, Songkran is much better outside of BKK. If you can go to Chiang Mai, Udon Thani, or someplace else upcountry, you'll find a much better experience overall. 2 or 3 years back, GF and I had a nice time in Udon. I got wasted drinking local beer and dancing in the streets with a bunch of Thai guys.
In BKK, and Pattaya, it's rather intense. You really can't go anywhere for at least 3 days without getting soaked (at least in the farang ghetto of lower Suk), and that's not much fun, unless you have nowhere to go. But elsewhere it's more laid back, the entire frikking city isn't involved, and you can avoid getting drenched if you like.
Also, if you are lucky, maybe you'll be able to participate in some of the other Songkran activities. You'll probably need a Thai GF or good acquaintance. Thais also make a point of visiting their families, making merit at the what is, pouring water on their relatives' ashes, and other interesting activities. If you dig a bit deeper you'll find Songkran to be more than just a gigantic water fight.
That said, GF and I do tend to travel outside of Thailand during Songkran, not just to avoid the water, but the traffic to / from BKK, drunk drivers, etc.
Not sure if this is the forum or it should be in the Bangkok hotel section. But I have been making a search in both. I just registered to stay in the Hilton Sukhumvit for my upcoming stay. From what I read most of the Bangkok hotels are GF. Though I could not find something specific on the Hilton Sukhumvit.
Could one of the locals please confirm this Hilton is GF? Many thanks.
Also where could I find a map showing some of the local spots to visit. Nana, Bier Garten. Etc?
I read that the Sukhumvit are is the right place to be. Was I correct?
Many, Many thanks. I have been reading the pages of the forum, perhaps I missed this info.
Once again thanks!!
Hi Firebird,
You should have no problem at Hilton. They are discrete about it and reception will just keep the girls I'd card for your safety.
Sukhumvit road is definitely the place to go mongering. You will find a lot nice of hang around bars with an abundance of English speaking girls down Soi 4. If you want go go bars then its either Nana Plaza (also Soi 4) or Soi Cowboy (next to Soi 23). Beware that beer price nearly double in Go go bars, but there is no cover, so you can bar hop easily.
If you want to party on after closing time, go to climax bar at Soi 11. Just get a taxi, they get a kickback to get you there. Climax usually keeps open to 5 or so, depending on the mood of the police. Its a big place with live music and lots of good-looking freelancers in case you didn't get lucky in a bar.
Have fun.

Bangkok Beat pickings
I frequent Bangkok Beat nightclub on SOI 7/1 as it is close to my apartment and they have several fun bands playing nightly. It is also a popular FL spot with many girls on most night. Nearly all will tell you they work for a salon. Not much imagination as you would think someone might say they work in an office environment for variety but virtually they all say salon when I ask their work.
I see many of the same girls night after night and some do quite well pulling at least one guy almost nightly. Two popular girls who I went with (and it was lousy) always seem to find a client. Sometimes, I feel like warning the guy. LOL.
However, there are some rare birds who come in there who are not on the clock. Last weekend, I met a girl towards closing time who had seen me there before. After dancing and hanging out for a while, she indicated that she wanted to go with me. I said OK but I have no money to pay you. This was partially true because my three prior experiences with girls here have been marginal at best and did not want to expend funds for another waste of time. Anyway, she agreed and devoured me in my apartment and again in the morning. Never asked for money when she left so found a freebie and one of the best shags so far in Bangkok. She is still texting me but not blowing up my phone. Funny, but says her occupation is with a salon too.
If possible and when I am in town I used Bangkok Beat also as last stop before going to my apartment. Years ago the bar was open till around 4 AM, after the coupe they have to change to earlier closings like 2 AM (and sometimes till 3 AM.), latest I experienced this in mid-January.
I also remember that I had over the years several girls who came to my place without getting paid. Remember one particular girl who Always was there during the weekends (with a group of girls), she Always was sitting aside and played a lot with her Phone. On a particular night I made a remark to her, as it was too loud to have a conversation we both got outside, making a long story short, several hours later she came to my apartment and two days later (because the Monday was a Buddhist Holiday) I dropped her at her apartment at LadPro. 25 years old, around 168 cm, slim, office girl. Of course I had to pay for food etc. But the fucking was for free. We meet several weekends and during several trips.
Over the years I have experienced that not every girl in Bangkok is looking for money, only.

Bangkok Beat hours
The place seems to close most nights at 3 am. Some of the bands are quite good especially the Filipina band that plays several nights during the week, but not all, starting at Midnight. The blond lead singer, whose name is Grace, is quite popular with the crowd in there and a nice person to chat with.
There are several girls, always together, who sit in the back section. I know at least one in this group will cost as she picked me up the first night I went to BB with the old "up to you" when I inquired about cost. Her relaxed attitude totally changed when we got back to my apartment. Then it was hurry up (so she can back to the bar). As a consequence, I gave her 1000 bhat, which she did not seem to like but accepted. She smiles at me all the time and points to her friends and gestures for me to come over but I figure birds of a feather flock together and don't want to repeat the same mistake twice.
There is one attractive girl I see in there constantly, usually comes alone, with lightly dyed hair and nice figure who always leaves with really old decrepit guys, generally overweight, and barely ambulatory. She scores almost every night I am there. She's got her target zone figured out.
But when I see the same girl in there all the time, I figure they are on the game. Your comment suggests I should reevaluate that train of thought.
Anyway, it's an easy stroll to my apartment, so I enjoy going there.

Nice line up of sexy naked girls in Crazy House last night. I had already fucked my regular Tilac girl so was just window shopping. Strange that I had seen No. 91 since first visited and always thought she was pretty but perhaps not friendly to some of the other girls.
Last night she seemed to be friendly with a girl of well known good character so I thought I have to re evaluate my previous assessment. Her nose somehow looked shorter and cuter than before. Tall with rather white skin.
Decided to call her over for a chat. She seemed shy but came across as a good shy girl. Could she be just putting on her best act? Quite possible. Undecided.
I asked her to take her top off for a good tip as she has very nice tits just A cups but high (the tits are just 20 years old). Finally managed that after a few tequilas. She says has been working in bars since age 16 to support her family and brother in university. Claims to stay alone with her pets (some sort of animal smaller than a rabbit or squirrel). Not sure I believe she has no Thai BF. Has been seen leaving on motorbike with Thai boy I believe. She could be a big liar which would not be unusual. Its very hard to detect what is true on first conversation and bar gossip is not trustworthy too. She claimed her nose was natural where others has said fake. It looked real enough to me. No high bridge.
Definitely one of the very best looking girls for face and body. Maybe next time I will try fucking her just in case she turns out good. Very few of them are good for sex. Only 3 to date were good enough to repeat. The rest hopeless. So many inexperienced and dick scared. Maybe 91 has enough experience. Nice to know if anyone tried her already. Gave me a very nice tongue kiss and is non smoker.
Next time I might try to get her completely undressed and a lap dance if she is not too shy If all goes well I suppose I have to take the punt and go ST. I should really have fucked her a year ago, but she gives a nicer impression these days.

FA.
I would say yes, it is still possible to find decent hotels when you are on site in Bangkok. Just book a hotel for the first 2 or 3 nights and then spend a day or half a day looking around for a good deal (without luggage obviously, so more relaxed). There are loads of hotels in Bangkok and tourism has gone down since the coup so it should certainly be possible to avoid outrageous walk in prices.
What you can do is search on internet booking sites for nice looking hotels and then pay them a visit to see if they are really nice.

BKK Visit In January
Followed the information in the Bangkok Red Eye. First night strolled around Suk and ended up on Soi 22. Cursed the block and was enticed by a cute lady in front of a Massage shop. I took her advise and went for the Thai massage. She flipped me over and asked if I wanted happy ending. I said sure, take off your clothes and lets make love. She smiled and said two, I gave a frown and replied 1. 5. She said wait we need a condom. She came back and undressed, cute little body and nice firm see cups. She came twice and I just couldn't cum with these industrial condoms they use. She smiled and said ok I finish you. She oiled me up took off the condom and finished with a good HJ. She asked me to please out call her tomorrow. She would come to my hotel with surprises. This was Friday night.
I then walked over to NANA for a few beers. Next report to follow.

RL.
Some of us write how we always take our own condoms to bookings, just in case. Durex Comfort is one type that suits me, so I am willing to pay extra 100 Baht for a box of three. I have others from OS. Wrong condoms definitely interferes with a session.
