Sosua Reports

Today Wednesday May 20th, 2020 is supposed to be the 1st phase of businesses reopening in the DR. In Sosua I noticed the main appliance store (Pappaterra) was open. Hardware, Bldg. Construction and paint stores, open. All of the Motor Bike and Car Repair shops were open. The car wash was open. And with a 7 pm curfew in place. Each may be allowed to be open long enough to conduct business and allow their employees time to get home before curfew.

I believe the Supermercados hours of operation have extended past the previous 3 pm closure time frame. Thing is fellas, this phase one of openings has to be a success, because if anything goes wrong that spooks the health or govt officials they will revoke the phase one openings, and there won't be any phase two until it's deemed safe.

Hello everyone. Has anyone been to Blackbeards. Any update on what's it like, how much the cost, tips, etc.

Been in Sosua since March, it was a dead city now things are opening, 7 pm a oh.

Been in Sosua since March. It was pretty dead all this time. Nice to see the curfew extended until 7 pm and some of the clothing stores opened and yes the barbershops. No more calling your barber and getting a trim behind closed doors. Was expecting things to be pretty tense with months of no business but feels alright on the street, vibe is pretty good. Was visiting Coco bar which is officially closed but if you knock and say you are friend you can get a drink at the bar. The bartender is a cool Canadian guy always telling stories but honestly the place is pretty lively as is with everyone just enjoying all good times. I was told you can get a good breakfast at the back at Plan be. Never tried it though. Street action is next to non-existent especially compared to what it used to be. All Santo Domingo chicas are staying put at home.

Was pretty sad to learn that the main disco is closed until further notice as an attempt to "turn the city into family friendly neighborhood" by the local government. Sosúa just changed the major so may be it will change, who knows, but the resort lobby seems pretty powerful.

Any other advice of functioning bars at the moment? Hearing a lot of music in the neighborhoods, anyone had a way to get to the party?

They didn't specify any reopening time frames for this summer season but thought I get some feedback on that place from others who might have visited in the past to see what's its like.

But just a note. While the cops are aware of the (illegal) back room activities going on at the usual spots, it's not helpful to the owners to have them publicized by name on a public board.

Countries may take a dim look at travelers from the United States of America. I doubt simply holding a passport from there will become a liability. But could result in ALL travelers arriving from hot spots in the United States of America receiving additional medical screening. I addressed issues of medical issues involving COVID-19 and why I personally think additional medical screening for those arriving from hotspots in the United States of America (or any country for that matter) in the Politics in the Dominican Republic forum less than a month ago.

Two reporters reported from Italy and France. When the reporters were asked about the chances of US passport holders traveling to those two countries, this summer, as they open up for tourism, both demurred. Looking at your statistics, numbers normalized, even though I do not know the source, it makes sense, as the EU have enough problem of their own and most likely will restrict travel from across the pond. What will happen to the DR, I do not know but again, looking at your numbers, it would definitely pose a challenge to the local authorities in the DR.
