I thought that I would add one more thing that may help new visitors to Rio when it comes to eating. The comida por quilo restaurants. These are buffets which charge you based on the weight of the plate of food you end up taking and they are dirt cheap. There was one just at the corner from my Airbnb in Copacabana and a few along the main commercial road a block inland from the beach. Also during one of the days I was in Centro after my prive session at Onix, I wanted to check out Confeitaria Colombo which is suppose to be one of the most beautiful cafes in the world. I got there at about 1:45 pm when I thought the lunch rush was over but there was still a huge lineup in the street just to get in. So I abandoned that visit and walked a block away to find a comida por quilo eatery where I had my late lunch and the cost was even cheaper than the one in Copacabana.
Don't expect the food at these to be Michelin star quality but it is okay by my dining standards and because the cost is dirt cheap, you will see a lot of locals there. The one bad thing about these comida por quilo places is that they operate only during the daytime hours so I wasn't able to find any for the dinner hours. I did find a comida por quilo when I was in Foz do Iguazu after my stay in Rio but didn't find any in the immediate area where I was staying in Sao Paulo but I'm sure they exist there too as this seems to be a popular concept in Brazil.
The quilo restaurants are pretty good for a quick lunch. There are several in copacabana and some do all day quilo buffet like siqueira grill or fagulha. I like fagulha. They got a churrasco station and cut the picanha right from the skewer. Of course not as posh as churrasceria palace and I would not take a date there, but for a quick healthy lunch (beef, vergetables, rice, potato, salad etc.) in the 60-100 R range more than ok. Compared to other latin countries like argentina with very limited good almoco options or colombia with the menu del dia, that quickly gets boring (mostly beef or chicken with platano and rice) brazil and also rio are way better. I am still discovering new places every day.
Anyone has an experience with this type of parties? Swedish Gringo and couple of other channels on YouTube have some videos.
I looked at his videos on YouTube and it's most likely a youth party boat that you can sign up for at any number of hostels. I did a few of those back in the day when I was a backpacker (mid 2000's). Note that those are civilians and not working girls, but if you're younger and have some game it shouldn't be hard to find girls to hook up with (I know I did back then!
On the other hand, if you want to rent a nice boat with a couple crew members you can do so for $200-$500/ day depending on boat. It's something fun to do and split with friends. You'd need to pay girls on top of that.

I find that for many dishes the restos there don't have much vegetables and go heavy on the rice and fries.

Some dishes are with rice and fries here but I am a New Yorker living in Lima for 2 years now and still not tired of the fries because they are real potatoes haha.

In Rio, the fish dishes weren't bad which was expected since so close to the sea but they didn't have to hammer me with both fries AND rice on the same order.

About halfway through the trip, I ate some sushi at a buffet-style place, and got violently ill! I panicked because I was having the time of my life and feeling like I had just discovered monger paradise, and I feared the remainder of the trip would be ruined! But lucky for me, I was only out of commission for one day. It took many trips and many years later before I would try sushi again in Brazil, and that happened to be in Sao Paulo if I recall correctly. I still can't recall eating sushi in Rio ever again, but I know there are supposed to be some good sushi restaurants in the Marvelous City now. My last time down, I had sushi at a fantastic place in Florianopolis (see the Brazilian Gastronomy thread).

I have been with one day of terrible stomach pains and ensuing sessions on the toilet in Brazil. This has hit members of my crew, but not on the same day.
All I could think was that I consumed some food that was infected by local water in some shape or form. As you suggested, it could have simply been poorly-handled food ingredients. The bug took one day / one night to flush through the system and I was generally back to normal.
As a rule when traveling countries in South America and Southeast Asia, I look to eat hot foods. The hotter the better. Obviously, I drink bottled water.

I like being a guide after talking with new to Rio mongers, depending on common language, culture, interests, etc. I can get these girls anytime so I am fine giving guests to Rio first pick.
Any gringos like me Going to Brazil and want someone who really knows the scene let me know. Big parties (group of 16 guys last month) or solo / small groups.
Several members from this site already know him. He provides everything a gringo could want in Brazil and speaks English Portuguese and Spanish. Think he charged me like $30 a day. Driver private car, he found a Airbnb for one group and mansion for another. And his friends are hot haha.

Paying for Guides
If you would have asked me years ago if I need a guide to travel to party here ID say nah tbh. But now its just easier than wondering if this chick is a scammer or is she coming or what's the price is she the same chick in the photo. If I'm spending the money to come have fun, its worth it to pay to not worry about all the scams (as much as possible obvi never 100%).
I have quite literally traveled all of my life starting from the days when I was just a child and traveling with my parents. I find the idea of paying for and using a security guide to hold my hand while on vacay to be pure anathema. I suppose for a guy who's less experienced and less sure of himself he might feel it's worth it to pay for this type of service, but for me, I would feel like it's a total waste of money. It's not that I think I'm invulnerable and that nothing can possibly happen to me. I don't think that. Something bad can happen to anybody. I don't care how much experience you have. But, I have enough of that travel experience to know that I don't need to pay anybody to look after my safety after decades and decades of safe and successful international travel to all kinds of destinations all over the world, including to war zones and high crime locales. I would rather keep that money in my own pockets to pay for another piece of ass or for another beer versus give it to somebody else to spend on himself for beer and ass LOL! To each his own, but paying for a security guide service while traveling abroad to monger and party is a big "no" for me. What do others think?
Always valuable to have a fellow ISGer around haha yea this community is great and helped me before visiting and then moving to south america.
The guy I mentioned is a guide for dudes (or couples) in Colombia, peru and Brazil. He was just in sao paolo getting a gringo out of jail for fighting (another memeber here flew him from rio to SP to help his cousin not pay a huge fine and get out no issues)....
He takes care of the chicks, he found twins for a group of guys last month, the bachelor wanted twins haha he handles security, screens the chicks, like looks at their IDs and calls cop friend to make sure they arent trouble, he handles places to eat VIP discos boat parties...
anyone want his info - message me - hes in brazil until 4/29
I suggest that he be careful as it doesn't sound like he's a local and I believe pimping is illegal in Brazil, and know for a fact it is in Colombia. And while they turn a blind eye to locals, they will not to foreigners. If the dude is an American then he will definitely have a bullseye on his back.
If he's doing all you say for $30/day, or only $4/hr... setting up parties, arranging chics, finding twins, bailing people out of jail, etc... that just sounds.... 'off' ....
Also, beware of the IG passport bro / influencer dudes. I've seen that RedBeard Rants guy both in Colombia (before he was kicked out) and also in Brazil (2 x at Casarao). Guys like him are all about 'setting up parties,' but total bad news and are on the police radar. Also just f'ing annoying in general.
Lastly, I'd personally hate to be stuck with the chics that a guy brings when I know I could go to one of many clubs and it's as easy as shooting fish in a barrel. My two cents.

I didn't say he did all of what you meantioned for $30 a day. I said he charged me that. Anyone who wants to know what that included can reach out to me but he is a local and I said his friends were hot.
What he did getting the guy out of jail was between him and his client from a post today. Idk how you grouped everything about him into what I said he charged me haha I wasnt in jail.
Also good advice but not every gringo can or wants to go to the discos or bars shoot fish in a barrel but that also comes with risk of getting drugged and robbed etc. When girls came over to our airbnb he checked their IDs to make sure they were of age and real and double checked them.
Idk where you see pimping, many dudes have already reached out including several from europe, people know what a guide is, you're the only one who connected dots that werent there and saw pimping haha.
I'm not selling anything, I am not the guide. I just know theres alot of dudes who want to travel to south america and would want a guide. No women being sold or offered here.

.
All good. You said that he was a guide in Colombia, Peru, and Brazil. So I didn't think he would be a local Brazilian. I'm happy that you're getting some traction for your friend's guide service. It's rare that we have people advertising that here.
