As a first time visitor, I don't want to mess up the pricing scale for everyone, especially those of you who have taken the time to give me some great tips.
What is the normal range that we should expect to pay for women? For example, if we meet someone at the beach during the day, what's reasonable for 2, 3 hours back at the house? What's fair for someone we meet in one of the clubs? Is the price "per pop", or just by the time spent? Also, what about the idea of several girls around the house for a few hours taking care of 4 or 5 guys...how would you expect that to be "priced"?
Maybe some of you know some ladies who would be perfect for our needs...I would greatly appreciate referrals (with photos and cell numbers; email addresses even better!)
As mentioned before, advice appreciated and we are happy to share with those who help us.
Dave
Just go and have a good time. Don't think too much before you go because the girls and fun will find you.
Prices can range from 50K for a street girl to 100K for one of Tony's. An LDV girl or an Elektra girl can go for 150K to 200K. There are plenty of reports on price structure on this site, it seems like it is discussed about once every two weeks. It really depends on the girl and what you expect.
Girls in Cartagena are not your typical hard corp girls you see working in other areas (YMMV), They are there to make money, but they treat you like a boyfriend. Some are there for vacation and to make a little extra for school or family. Sometimes if you take them to lunch or invite them for drinks at your pool, they will come over and have fun. Many times without asking for money.
Go to Santo Domingo Square at night and grab a table in Darwin's area (in front of the entrance to the church). He is a good man that speaks English. He will know which girls in the square are available, but remember he is a waiter and not a pimp. Buy him a shot, he will treat you good.
Enjoy yourself but remember to be good to the girls. Most are very nice and are only doing this line of work to feed their families or to make enough for school.
You will want to come back again, so get some cell numbers. Of course these girls seem to change phones often. They either lose thme or they pawn them when they are low on cash. When you plan your next trip, give them a call and they will meet you at the airport.
FYI, I have been to Cartagena at least twenty times in the last five years. I am now married to a Colombiana and we own a three bedroom apartment near the university. Unfortunately, until I can retire, I am stuck in the midwest.

Bought my airline tickets for the trip yesterday. Will be in CTG from middle of Feb to middle of March. Instead of writing one report when I am done, will write reports as I go along.
Now if you want to visit CTG then you will need airline tickets to get there. I tend to be a cheap SOB and think that I saved some money this time.
I used priceline (priceline.com) and good old Captain Kirk saved me enough to buy baby beef and wine in Plaza Santo Domingo my first night. I will give special thanks to Captain Kirk during dinner for my "free" meal. I would suggest you check out priceline when you are looking to buy your tickets. Of course after the trip I may be singing a different song so we will have to see how it all turns out. The game ain't over until the fat lady sings.
I started out with another new site this time to start my airline searches. It is called bookingbuddy (bookingbuddy.com). First time that I had used that one and I liked it. After I finished looking, I decided to try priceline. Only saved about $10-15 on my US flights to Miami (MIA) But I saved $75-80 on my MIA-CTG flights with Avianca. One strange thing. I had multiple screens up on my computer. After I had booked my flight I was looking at the other screens and Orbitz had sent me a message that they now had a new lower fare for me on the MIA-CTG flight that was about $15 more then priceline.
So when checking for airline prices try different sites, try to book 3 to 5 weeks before you go and you know what? Maybe that first chica will be "free".
Of course if using one of my hints saves you $80 then you could use $20 of that savings to buy a membership to this site. I think it is called karma.
Just curious. Where you staying in Cartagena for that long? I arrive in Cartagena mid feb and thought about spending a week there and then hitting carnival in barranquilla.

Gringo Loco 2.
I think we met at the mansion last year. I'm going back around to Cartagena for an extended stay in February and was also planning to hit Carnaval in Barranquila for a few nights but the hotels are getting expensive.
I'm waiting to hear back from the all the apartment guys I emailed earlier today and I already have had some positive responses.
PM me for details
Just curious. Where you staying in Cartagena for that long? I arrive in Cartagena mid feb and thought about spending a week there and then hitting carnival in barranquilla.
Where am I staying?
Damned if I know.
I used the web sites to check on hotel prices and was a bit shocked at prices.
Have considered Hotel Monterrey over by the convention center for my first night or two. If you have one of the front rooms that face to the clock tower, you have that great view. Not a bad place and I can walk to my first night dinner in the old city.
Now over in the beach area, remember the 2 supermercadios that are open 24 hours a day. Well if you walk out of the door of the one that is the closest to the beach, and start walking down the one way street there like you are going to the old city. There is a hotel on your left. First one that you come to. I stayed there last time and liked it plus it was like a 10 minute walk to my dentist from there. Cost me about $60 a night then.
Near Hotel Almirante is the country club. Right across the street is another hotel that I have stayed at for about $55 a night. Can not remember the names of the last two hotels.
But the odds are that I will be at one of those three for my first night. I am also thinking about talking to Juan and renting one of his apartments. I would like to rent that great penthouse for a few days and party with some of my chica amigas.
I have been going to CTG for about 10 years now so not really concerned about finding a place to stay. Once I am there, I can visit different places and bargain a bit.
Great call on your part to visit the carnival in Barranquilla. I have never been to the carnival there but my colombian friends have told me how great it is.
I'll be back mid-February myself, staying at Tom33's place in Playa Mar. If any of you guys want to hook up and have a beer, let do it. I'll probably be spending time on the 'stag bench' in front of the Playa Mar apartment with Big Jim, shooting the sh*t and talking about and meeting chicas.
As far as the Carnaval is concerned, I was able to book a hotel via Expedia for the weekend nights. Bound to be an interesting time, to say the least. I was surprised that I got a room, probably the global recession is hitting CO also.

Normally I tend to be a lone wolf but thought that it might be interesting to meet some new people this time. Normally the only gringos I meet in CTG are US undercover agents. Have always been real nice guys but would be nice to see someone who is not checking me out to see if I am involved in the drug trade.
Two great calls on your part Gonzo. Going to the Barranquilla carnival and using Tom33's apartment. I guess you will have a couple chicas a day knocking on the door looking for Tom33!!! I have never met Tom33 but we have a mutual friend.

I don't know about knocking on his door but they sure still call his apartamento. Some chica from Bogota kept calling at least once a day last year and wanted to bullshit with me, but my caveman espanol just seemed to amuse her. Maybe she thought I was Tom33!

I know that is more then Tom usually pays but sometimes it is fun to overpay.
Have been messing around looking for a hotel room and found two more search sites. One is called onetime at onetime.com. It is a search engine that connects you to other sites to search. It is like bookingbuddy.
The other site is kayak at kayak.com It will show you prices on other sites. Kayak came up with a price of $48 a night for Cartagena Plaza Hotel. I believe that is the one that is near Almirante and the little police station in the park. Has anyone ever stayed there?? It is only for a single but two nights there would give me a chance to check out other places. Also when walking by, I have noticed that quite often there seems to be groups of chicas that stay there. Might be like letting the fox into the chicken coop.
If the prices that I am seeing on the web is what the hotels are really charging when you walk in and talk to them, then renting an apartment is the best way to go.
Havahopeful, could you perhaps give a rough idea of the prices that the apartment people are giving you. Nothing exact, just a rough range.
Also an invitation to both Havahopeful and GringoLoco2 to meet up for a beer.
Also in a previous post I had mentioned a hotel near the country club. The name is Hotel Bahia. Seems to be $84 a night lowest price. Has hot water, was very chica friendly and a nice pool. A bar and restaurant down by the pool. You are like 3 blocks from the ocean and maybe a 10 minute walk to LDV. I have spent at least 60 days there in the past.
First trip to CTG, sans-novia tonight so did quick checkout of the scene.
Around 11pm, walked past Elktra in Centro, street deserted, didn't go in.
Around 11:30, stopped by LDV. For about an hour, the ratio of chicas to guys was 3:1. Around 12:30 more guys came in and less chicks were still there, for about a 2:1 ratio. Chicas a bit older and a bit larger than I'm used to elsewhere in Colombia. (larger frames, larger builds, a bit chunkier, squared faces) Not my cup of tea though I know tastes vary.
An aguila was $7k, no cover.
I'd say the chicas were mostly 6-7s, some 8s. A couple of outliers 5s and 9s. For you guys who like your chicks meaty, move my ratings up a notch. Not a destination, for my tastes, but convenient to the large tourist hotels nearby.
One of few chicks to my taste (slender build) quoted $200K, lined up with what reports here said to expect for LDV (on the low end even), so I didn't haggle.
Went to a por-rato hotel, forget the name, within 5 min taxi ride. $30k for an hour there.

I got a 2 bedroom 2 bath in Laguito for 150, 000 a night and for the nights when I will only be using one bedroom 110, 000 a night. I might have gotten a better rate because I booked for a large number of days
Its in the Torre Centauro building which I stayed in last year as well. Building has everything I need but could be nicer. Biggest downside to it is the family room is not airconditioned but the bedrooms are.
I have been dealing with Dave at Colombiarental, I had a pretty good experience with him last year.
Always up for meeting for a drink as I'll be alone the first 10 days of the trip. I met some great non pros last year that I have kept in touch with and are a lot of fun.
Still searching for Barranquila places to stay during Carnaval.
If anyone has any ideas let me know.

On hotelscombined.com they had San Francisco Hotel Barranquilla for $130 a night.
On hotels.com they had Barranquilla Plaza for $154 a night.
Everywhere else I looked said no rooms.
You could ask Dave at Colombiarental for help. Or rent a taxi to take you back and forth. You meet someone you like, invite her to spend the night with you in CTG. Of course knowing the crazy Colombians, they will party all night anyway.

Carnaval time is very difficult.
My rec is just get the best rate in adavance at the best chica friendly place you know of.
Otherwise, you'll be SOL.
But don't expect many bargains. It's all premium pricing at that time of year in BQ.
Scwmm
I am heading down to Cartagena at the end of February.
It's my first down there in a couple of years.
Can anyone fill me in on the the chica fees at the big hotels?
Hilton, Almirante, Hotel Dann?
