Can get a yellow fever shot at BKK airport
If you have spent some time in the Caribbean or in some Latin American countries (I think Mexico and Brazil are exceptions) you will need to present a yellow fever card to medical personnel at the airport. If a person who requires such a card presents himself in the airport sans card he will be required to be quarantined for a few days.
If you fly to BKK from a yellow fever zone and you don't have a vaccination card, you can get a shot (for a fee) before you go through immigration. They will issue you a card, and the shot is good for 10 years. Happened to me once when I was flying from Kenya or South Africa to BKK.
Cowboy- Yikes! But to each his own
Was in Cowboy for the first time since November of last year. Had some friends in town and they wanted to pay a visit, so I offered to take them. Man, how depressing. Was there about 10 pm and several of the bars we looked in on had no one, that's right, zero customers. Suzy's, Dollhouse, and a few others were empty. A friend of mine manages a well known bar there and said biz was terrible. Fridays and Saturdays are ok, but the rest of the week is dead. Contrast that with Crazy House and Baccara which were full. The crowd in those bars was 80% Asian and sadly they allow smoking in the bars as well. Without the Asians those bars would have not been doing well either. Gals in those two places were in my opinion just meh. Crazy House was full of youngish gals, most with a harder Isaan look, while Baccara was filled with quite a few plastic surgery disasters. Where do these gals get these awful tit and nose jobs? FFS, there are some amazing surgeons here and there is no reason to get a bad rack. Truthfully, I found neither bar to be very impressive. A nice body or two, but compared with what you see on the streets of BKK every day, just nothing to write home about. And nothing I would even consider the 125 USD to take for one pop when you add BF, ST, drinks, and ST hotel. I would consider it for half that, which is what I pay at the oilies for a multi-pop amazing PSE session. The P4 P industry really is kind of getting the dregs these days. But, with the economy flagging big time, perhaps we are due for a mini-resurgence. It will be short lived, but I'll take what we can get.
Drink prices are also out of site. 175 baht for a beer? Jeez. Get real. No wonder there are empty bars. During most of my 15 year tenure in BKK, Cowboy was the hangout for expats. During the low season it was residents that kept the place going. Now none of the guys I know ever go there. Even the most hardcore denizens have sworn it off. Sorry, it is just a rip off and really not fun. Amazingly mercenary.
Want to fill those bars? Price the beer at no more than 120 Baht, lady drinks the same, lower the barfines back to 500 Baht, kick out the Coyotes, and get the ST price back to 1500 Baht. The bars will be heaving again with locals. And really, when times are tough, it is locals that carry you through. Sadly, most of the bar owners have forgotten that. Guess they have become to "local" in their thinking. But, hey, you reap what you sow.
Luckily the oilies have gotten the message. Customers are way down, but I have found overall service is up. Gals are trying to get repeat customers. Fancy that. Biz is still not good as one of my favs at SW is thinking of heading overseas to work; she is just not getting enough sessions.
