...Can someone please comment my question about the appropriate monetary compensation?
Daddy San,
You write she is your TGF, she is not P4P and she is running her own traditional Thai massage shop - under this perfect real-life circumstances it should be possible to determine in a short discussion with her how much income she loses when she travels with you, and compensate her accordingly...
I think you can find the answer to this problem better than anybody else reading this thread.
What is an approptiate monetary "compensation" for a prolonged travel period? I was thinking of 5000 baht/week but would appreciate the expert's take on it.
Can someone please comment my question about the appropriate monetary compensation?
How much is 3-4 weeks income from her shop? Is it more or less than what you are offering her to travel with you? I think 5000B a week is generous but it depends on her financial standing. If by taking 5000B per week from you she will suffer a lost (opportunity cost) from not operating her business, then you should compensate her additionally for the amount she loses.

Exceptions?
Many of the stories I've heard or read on this subject suggest that in Issan, typical guys (young and old) spend most of their time drinking or laying about watching TV and its the women who get most of the work done or earn the support money (including of course the ones who rent themselves out in Bangers or Patts). Also, don't many of the working girls support unemployed Thai boyfriends either back home or staying with them? I'm not sure if this is true or not though cus I've never ventured up to Issan to observe first hand. And if true, I'm not sure if it applies mainly to families who have girls in 'the business' or more broadly to Issan farm families in general. If this is not BS, is it a case of Issan culture contradicting Thai culture or bar girl sub-culture contradicting mainstream culture?
Call her what you want. I don't care. Your logic is stupid.
If you're the expert on Thai culture that you claim to be, you know that every guy from the lowliest farmer to the richest HiSo geezer is expected to take care of his woman, financially. So, according to your moronic thinking, every Thai woman is a prostitute.
BTW, my GF's father has told me that he doesn't expect sin sord if we marry, because I've taken care of her for over 2 years. Neither she nor her family are mercenary. You simply can't compare a girl like her to some slag in a gogo bar fucking for money.
I'm really quite tired of this discussion. It seems to be a means by which those who do P4P can paint all Thai women as prostitutes, in order to convince themselves that the girls they go with are no different than any other Thai woman, which is completely ridiculous.
Daddy San,
RunMann and Giotto have the best suggestion. But since you asked, I would like to offer some ideas if I may, although I could be totally off.
So it's a Thai massage business, no P4P. A practitioner may say earn 300B each time (I've seen way cheaper in BKK near where I stay), probably no more than 2 customers a day, 5-6 days a week. So her lost income could be around 3000B-3600B a week. That's my best guess.
She'll probably be very happy to take a few weeks off and travel, which she may not have the opportunity to do normally, and would be happy to sacrifice some lost income. So she would be willing to get less even, so if you ask, she may not say for sure. That's another guess.
Now what is your personal money situation? 3000B is US$100, is that a lot for you? 5000B is US$150, is that a lot for you? Each time you or I visit a soapy or an oily, we spend around 3000B, just as a comparison. I know in this case, you incur travel and food costs as well.
Lastly, an office lady in BKK (don't know about Chiang Mai) earns about 25000B-40000B a month, about 6000B-10000B a week. Your lady would earn quite a bit less I would guess.
So take all of these guessworks into consideration, and if I am not told something completely different, I would offer her at a minimum 4000B a week. If it were me, since I can afford it, I would offer her 6000B a week.
Hope that helps.

OTH Thread
Old Thai Hand,I can give you an own thread in my forum, something like "OTH in Thailand" - interested :):) ? Giotto
I think this is a good idea.
Along with provocative writing we might get to see more pictures of naked university girls!

Giotto,
you suggest exactly what I had planned to do myself.
Two problems with that however:
The discussion you speak of has to take place over the phone and or by email, which introduces serious language difficulties.
In this kind of negotiation, which I am quite familliar with, I like to be face to face with my counterpart.
I also like to have an idea upfront, what a satisfactory result from her point would be, you know all about "win-win" situations.
My own guesstimate was more or less confirmed by Run Man and especially Flyhere. Thank you all.

Puz hunter
Ensure the you book a room for two people. They will check the girls ID and add her to the registration. If you don't book a room for two people they will try to charge you a 1700B joiner fee. Anyways, a little more hastle than most hotels, but no problems in the end if you book a two person room.

Thanks, very useful info.
7,500 baht/month. But, because she lives with me, there are of course other expenses: food, the water she uses, the air con, the rent, UBC, Internet. However, she's small and doesn't consume much.
BTW, I give my Gig 7,500/month, as well, which she uses for all her monthly expenses, including rent, food, Internet, clothes, travel and school.
You'll find most "office girl" types earn less than 20,000 Baht a month in Bangkok, Plenty around and below the 15,000 Baht a month level.
Try this as a guide.

Remember - in general, THAI WOMEN LIE, THAI MEN LIE, in general, most Thai's lie and its considered quite normal, so never go on what they say they get, you will always find they claim to be getting much more money than they really are.

What I said was not idle comment btw, it was based on facts, I know how much my staff are paid. The secretaries are paid 20000B-25000B a month, the project admins and executive secretaries are paid 25000B-40000B a month.

Puz hunter
Funny, just posted in the Escort agencies thread re a longer term experience, suggested this sweetgirlmassage.com site. I used them from airport Novotel in the 1st instance, girl name Linly? Not sure. good massage with extras, then met again for some guidance around Bkk. and then spent a few days including a trip to Koh Samet. She organised everything! Very pleasant! :-)
Only thing i had to be flexible on in the first instance, at the airport Novotel, was extra several hundred for taxi out to the airport, and back.

Compensation
Can someone please comment my question about the appropriate monetary compensation?
I understand that you bought her a (traditional, what kind of tradition are we talking here? Where is it and can I check it out? )massage shop already at which she is not making any money right now since it is the rainy season. So as you are footing the bill for the trip you don't owe her any compensation. Then again: no money-no honey. 5000 on top of expenses is normal if she's not a hooker. 5000/week very generous. I have a friend who is a full time professor at cmu at 20 000 a month.

No, it isn't true. As far as I have been able to observe there is virtually no unemployment in Thailand, and most Isaan men seem quite hard working by my standards. I think part of this unfair reputation stems from the nature of agricultural work, which, though becoming much less common nowadays, used to be the occupation of most Issanites. Farmers often have long periods of idleness interspersed with active periods, governed by the seasons and the life cycle of their plantations. Alas, this lifestyle and many of its traditional aspects are dissappearing quickly as the last of these rural people are drawn into centralized capitalism.
It is true though, that girls are much more put upon than boys, who are very spoiled, and it might not be unusual that the sex-money a girl sends home gets partially redistributed to some relatively spoiled male sibling by her parents. It is also true that most prostitutes have a pimp-boyfriend, but the fact that she typically supports him (if only partially) is a sort of compensation for his sacrifice in being with such a low or shameful woman.
