I always liked SR after having a good time there a couple of years ago,a good time that made me sell my house in australia and emigrate.
Boy what good timing! Was in SR a few months ago with the GF and did all the venues.
That soksan looked good,so many girls in the bar and so many massage girls hanging around.
My pick of the SR venues for a single man.
Owners are Dutch and Swiss with Cambo wives. It's located across from Elephant Statue and Elephants Hotel. Good bar and music with one pool table in the back. 10-12 WG chat you up and go home with you for $20 ST. Most girls are 6/7s but you may want to hold out for a couple of 8s who drop by. 2 or 3 ladyboys are always hanging around hoping for a stupid drunk. The bartender can point them out for you or the girls will tell you.

this was my 2nd trip to siem reap. , i like siem reap. it is a nice town, but the overwhelming reason to come here is angkor what archaeological site. everything else is just a bonus.
i arrived in the afternoon so i spent the rest of the day wandering around the town. i had a great dinner at madame butterfly. after dinner i had a few drinks at temple bar and soup dragon on pub street and saw some pretty waitresses, but it did not look like anything was going to happen. i met a free lancer on pub street. she was around thirty and kind of past her prime in the looks department. there were several massage parlors on old market street. some had pretty girls handing out flyers to passer byes. i stopped to talk to one girl. after dropping several hints i realized that these places were traditional massage parlors and offered no happy endings. (if someone at the forum knows different, please let me know.) anyway, i cruised up and down pub street several times between 9 and 10: 30pm. the area was packed with tourists of all stripes and nationalities, but there just was not much girl action. i went back to my hotel and retired.
i woke up early and got a good jump on the hordes of tourists that descend on angkor what complex. a big tip: start at the most distance temple in the park first (banteay srei) and work back. around 3pm the heat and humidity finally got to me so i went back to my hotel to relax by the pool.
had dinner at khmer kitchen on pub street alley, then i again cruised up and down pub street. i saw the same tourists, the same hooker, the same traditional massage girls, and the same pretty waitresses, but not much else. so i walked down pub street, crossed sivatha blvd, took a left on sivatha, walked a block then turned right and saw sok san disco/massage parlor a couple doors down the lane.
a friendly doorman asked me if i wanted to go to the massage parlor or the disco. i said i did not know, so he escorted me through the door on the right which led to a fishbowl containing around 25 girls. i checked the girls out, but none seemed very attractive although many were very eager to be selected. i turned around, left the fishbowl and said ok where is the disco. he led me a little further down the hallway and opened a door.
i was greeted by a very attractive girl wearing a black hostess dress as soon as i stepped inside the disco. she escorted me to a booth along the wall and asked if i wanted company. i liked her smile so i said sure. soon a waitress came by and i ordered some drinks. it was around 9pm and i was the only customer in the place. occasionally some other hostess girls walked past our table to see who i was and what was going on. the girl and i started to get acquainted. she said her name was ta and she was 22 years old. the disco was very dark except for the occasional strobe light so i put my arm around her and started kissing her. she kissed me back pretty passionately and it wasn’t long before i was feeling her up and she was rubbing my dick. i asked her where we could go to make love and she said there were rooms upstairs. i asked how much. she said $50. i said that was too beaucoup. what about $30. she said she could not do it. sok san had a set price and she could not come down from it. i knew further bargaining was pointless and would only spoil the mood.

it was still early when i left sok san so i walked around pub st. and had a nightcap at temple bar. i still did not see much action around. it was 11pm. i went back to my hotel and called it a night.
next day covered a lot of ground in angkor what park. i had a great lunch at one of the stalls near the bayon. but all day i could not help but think about little ta. around 3pm i had had enough and went back to the hotel swimming pool to cool out. around 7pm i went to another khmer restaurant on pub alley. between 8 and 9 pm i checked out the pub st. scene again with the multitude of tourists, the pretty waitress girls, the cute traditional massage girls, and the 30 something hooker still looking for a john.
by 9:15 i was back at sok san disco. ta met me as soon as i walked into the place. we kissed and she led me back to our table. i ordered some drinks and we started fooling around. prior to my arriving in siem reap i had been traveling the soppong – mae hong son circuit in northern thailand and had been laid only once in 10 days in chiang mai. i told ta i wanted to make love and she led me out the back door, passed the fishbowl and up the stairs. the room was large and clean and had a king size bed. we embraced and then started taking off our clothes. ta had soft yet firm "b" cup tities with puffy brown nipples. she gave me the cambodian special: soapy shower massage, followed up with the bareback blow job, and lastly a passionate fuck in multiple positions. after we recovered, we did it all again and then a third time. yes i love cambodian women! we were both pretty well spent after the third time, but i fondly remember her laying semi upright with her back against the bed post while my head rested between her breasts, my ass just below her pussy, her legs wrapped around my hips and her arms around my shoulders. we just layed there totally satisfied. after some indeterminate amount of time i realized i was thirsty so i suggested we go downstairs to the disco and get some more drinks. it was around midnight and now the place was a jumping. there were lots of customers. the table to our left had 4 asian dudes with 5 or 6 hostess girls attending to their pleasures. the table to our right had 3 guys from africa and 3 girls hanging out with them. rep001tered around were many western gringos solo and in groups. 3 girls were dancing in bikinis on the stage. ta and i just took it all in and cuddled as we watched the show on stage and off. i told ta this was my last night in siem reap and that i was leaving for phnom penh early in the morning. she gave me her phone number and asked me to call her when i got back to the usa. i said i would and told her i really liked her. i gave her a $10 tip. i truly enjoyed her company. she was my first cambodian girl. finally i got up, kissed her good bye, and reluctantly left the bar. pub st. was now much quieter than it had been earlier although there were still some customers hanging out in some of the bars. i was too tired to check out if there was any real action going on so i just jumped into a tuk tuk and headed back to my hotel.
conclusion:
siem reap: angkor what complex is a must see destination. it ranks right up there with machu picchu, tikal, and bagan. siem reap is a nice town and reminds me a little of chiang mai only smaller and less polluted. while i do not consider it a world class girl destination, it certainly can provide the experienced traveler with a satisfying night or two on the town.
sok san: two establishments in one. the massage parlor/ fishbowl was not for me. $50 for girls i can’t rate higher than a 5. forget about it. the disco – yeah baby. i think this is the top place in town. best looking and best performing girls in town. best ambiance. there are much cheaper alternatives i am sure, but i doubt any other place in siem reap at the time of my visit (march 2009) can come close to this place. i rate it a 9. two big thumbs up!
ta: a great girl. she had a really nice personality. i rate her face 6. 5.7. body 7. performance 9. 5.

Can anyone recommend a good guide for Angkor what and mongering? Also a good GF hotel within walking distance of Sok San? I will be there with my brother on May 14 if anyone else is around. We'll be spending the rest of our trip in Pattaya.

A good guide for Angkor Wat is unlikely to be a good guide for mongering. Once you find a hotel, they can recommend guides... there are lots of them.
Sok San is right in the center of town about one block from Pub Street. No reason to stay within walking distance, as Central Siem Reap is not large - a tuk tuk ride anywhere around town will not cost more than $2 if you don't let them tell you it's more...just confirm your price before getting in... if they insist on more, move on to the next one - there are so many you have to swat them off like flies. A moto is less. SO no need to stay that close to Sok San.
But if you really want to stay around there - look at Cheapy's post below... Zanzybar is about 1 block away from Sok San.

As Stew2 says, mongering and Angkor Wat are separate. They are also geographically separated. Angkor Wat is the best reason to go to Siem Reap, but your involvement is dependent on your level of interest.

There are two options I'd strongly recommend. One is a visit to the Museum in SR (it's on the way to Angkor but you won't do it the same day). The other, if you are a reader, is the award-winning (factual) novel The King's Last Song.
Apart from that, it's quite good to have an idea in your head of the timeline, which monuments were built when, and the mutations of the prevailing Buddhist and Hindu (Brahmanic) religions. Also, very important, is to quickly get into your head an idea of the sheer scale of the place and a plan of what you can achieve in the time available. Reading any more than that (either before you go or while you're there) will probably just result in straightforward information overload.
When you get back home, if you found the place interesting, then is a good time to read more extensively in preparation for a future trip. Print out the guide at the above URL and do a chapter at a time.
Remember the Angkor Wat complex is enormous - much bigger than Siem Reap. And it's about half an hour's drive (or a bit less) to get there and getting your ticket/pass on the way. If you have a good driver who speaks English, is honest, is not lazy, that helps. Set out before dawn to get there in time to see the awesome sunrises. Take time off for lunch (your driver will expect this) when it's very hot and go back again later.
There are no mongering opportunities at Angkor Wat. Mongering is what you do in the evening. If you are travelling light, you will get a better deal on a hotel by just turning up. Practically all are GF.

My trip was purely on a lark. A job cancelled in Thailand, so I went to Cambodia knowing nothing except Angkor is a place I should see. Hiring the taxi driver made it easy, and I highly recommend it. Here is how it worked.
It cost $5 for a taxi from the airport to the town and a drive around to find a hotel. On the way into town, the driver said he would take me to all of the temples in the morning and return me to the hotel in the afternoon for lunch or a swim. He would pick me up for the sunset view at night. He would also bring me to the pub street for dinner. Price $25. I said sure.
The next morning he was there at the time we agreed upon. He took me to the ticket office to buy my day pass for the temples. He brought me to the first of 3 or 4 temples and said he will wait under a tree at the last temple. I took my time and looked at everything. At the end, i found him asleep in the car. I woke him and off we went to the next temple. This is how the whole day went. The driver was prompt, reliable and pleasent.

Recently had a chance to visit Blue Wave twice and Top Town once.
First visit to Blue Wave, walked in early in the evening, was the only one in the bar. Blue Wave is easy to find. Close to old town and Pub Street (maybe 1/4 mile walk). Major landmark about 1/2 block away is the Hotel de la Paix - find that and go up the side street just by it and look across the street to find Blue Wave. Open from 6pm - 2 am.
Upon entering, immediately all the girls (4-5 of them) jumped up and swarmed me, led me to the bar and invited me to choose one. None were outstanding looking but they were all pleasant enough. Somehow Srey Ohn appealed to me, so I selected her. After a beer and some small talk (English passable, not extensive), I paid the bar man 22 (2 for the beer, 20 for the girl), and headed to the back to a room. Srey Ohn was a great gfe - showered together, bbbj, covered fs, and then back to bbbj... really a nice girl who worked hard to please me.
Later I decided to try Top Town, as I recalled some good reviews here, and had noticed its location on Rte 6 as you head out of town (about a mile from the center). It has both a massage/boom boom center and karaoke or KTV... I went for the massage/boom boom service. Was there rather early (around 7), so the selection was rather limited, but did find one who seemed friendly and nice looking enough. When I emerged after my session, the number of girls had more than doubled, and there were some good lookers there, but on the whole, I would say that the girls I saw at Top Town were not so clearly better looking than the ones at Blue Wave.
Price was surprising - when I asked, papasan quoted it at 30, which is lower than I had read here in earlier posts. The sessions with Aya was also pleasant - she is friendly and pleasant to spend time with. But one thing that was clearly different here is that I was told from the beginning by the "papasan" and again by Aya when I asked, that yum yum was off the table. As Aya put it, Cambodians do boom boom, not yum yum. That was, of course, not a deal breaker, as I had understood it before going in from papasan, but having read previous reports, I was hoping it was official policy only. Alas, no luck there.
Next, back to Blue Wave, and had a very similar experience as I had had the first time. Decided to try a different girl this time (to the disappointment of Srey Ohn), so I selected Srey Moem... another caught my eye, but made the mistake of coming too close and letting me get a prior whiff of her breath. Srey Moem was as gfe as Srey Ohn had been, with the added bonus that we ended with COF. She laughed at that, as did I.
In all, I would say that the quality of the girls in Blue Wave visually may be just a tad lower than at Top Town, but the difference is not really significant. The price is a little better at Blue Wave (20 compared to 30), and the girls seem to be happy to do BJs. I would go back to Blue Wave, but might not visit Top Town too quickly.
Top Town was crap, I took a girl out, 50 after bargaining, she wasn't really entusiastic and she was bleeding like hell. I went back for another one, Mama san wanted an additional 30. I said fuck you and left, not recommended!
Martini, some good lookers but 50 for mama san and the best ones asked for 30-35. I liked Temple club on bar street, I always prefer discos or bars before fishbowls since you normally can get an idea of the girls attitude by talking to her a bit.
Radius International Angkor Star not recommended, girlfriendly but charge 10 us PER girl, so one night I was charged 20 us (when checking out)
I like the kmer girls after all and I got some good BJ: s, despite the earlier posts of BJ: s and Kmers not being compatible.

I met some pommie guys in the walkabou late one night who had been in phnom penh since that morning from Pattaya.
They were leaving the following morning-couldn't get out quick enough.
Why?
Well apart from the crappy hotel with no jacuzzi and the smell and the flies. All the girls demanded $50!
People do seem to often be asked for 50 bucks especially in siem riep.
But others are offered the same for much less.
I believe at the moment that more bar girls than ever before will go for 20 bucks and they look really good.
So many beautiful girls around.
My mate just got the gold card at one of the flashest karaokes in town. He says that the girls are really outstanding and lots of them.
These english blokes had done the tired strip of sharkey/walkabou/martini.
Hadnt been to a bar in 104 or 136-they had no idea where they were.
As for knowing of primo spots like LCC and MO, of course not.

Sorry knight,that stream of consciousness thing doesnt gel with you.
The point i was endeavouring to make was that these guys hated it,partly because of the filth but also the expensive girls.
If one is more informed the place is great.
I always tell new comers if they take a girl from a bar never to discuss the money.If the money is discussed it is often fucked.
Just do it and give em 20 bucks in the morning.
As for the gold card-great.
The khmers have the best looking women by far at the karaokes and the selection is incredible apparently.We are going to the party at the karaoke next week,my mate is shouting all his business contacts to a big pissup.
You are shown dozens of girls and when you select one she will attend to you for a few dollars an hour and for 20 bucks will do whatever you want-parties are in private rooms.
Last night we went with khmer partners to le mekong,a khmer nightclub on kamphuchea krom.
Our thai mate told us that it really warmed up later,he was right.
So many spunky young khmer women,all available.
But one would have to have some khmer-I do now but have a missus!
This place is unreal if you are a resident who speaks khmer but you could say that of any asian capital city if one is a true local.

Don't use the motorbike drivers in front of the bars. They will take you to a place where you are asked to pay as much as 80 dollars. Go into the back streets and ask one of them to take you to a place where you only want to pay 20 dollars.
