Of course, always choose a taxista that is trust worthy.
After spending hours reading posts and trying to decide what would be best for me with only nine days to spend in Colombia I decided it best if I stay in Cartagena. Medellin is about $300. More dollars by plane or much cheaper by bus however up to fourteen hours each way. That $300. Is close to what I知 paying to get to Cartagena from Detroit. Medellin and the Mansion sound like great fun. I値l put them down for a longer visit.
The experts seem to think I should stay in Cartagena痴 Centro but I知 going to start out in Getsemani where it is much cheaper and move over to Centro if I知 not happy. I have a list of Getsemani hotels that other sites have said are ok. I have traveled across Honduras, Guatemala, Belize and the Yucatan. I知 pretty much an expert on the Yucatan coast area with nine visits if anyone needs advice. Thanks so much for the advice. I welcome your feedback.
I've been to Cartagena many times and if I had 9 days I would have spent the extra $300. on the plane fare to Medellin because if you compare the two cities (apples to apples) Cartagena will cost you that extra $300. in the first few days.
Where did you find info on Getsemani hotels?
Did you not see this List?

When i visited Cartagena, I traveled to Barranquilla using this service. Cheaper than taxi and very comfortable, if you are in Bocagrande, they will come to take you in your hotel or apartment, don't need to go to bus station. The vehicle was a Mercedes Benz van with a/a. I don't remember the company name, but if you ask in your hotel, they will tell you the phone number, i think that there are different companies. I don't remember price.
What if I took the plane to Medellin and the bus back to Cartagena? It sounds like I am really screwing up by not going to Medellin. I was hoping to do some water activities around Cartagena as well as the night life thing. I'll call the Mansion and see if they have a room.

The statement about CTG being a lot more expensive than MDE is correct.

Forget the bus ride back to Cartagena IMO.
You got 9 days to enjoy, why waste time.
First visit to Colombia, make the Mansion your home base, relax, explore, make contacts.
9 days will go quickly.
You can always go snorkeling on the family vacation to Cancun ... hahaha.
Estaba bromeando
I found out that Spirit Air has started service to Medellin. The change fee is around $100.00 for me to change from going to Cartagena. They have a big sale for March now. I'm going to wait a week or so and see what prices they come up with for April.
I'm in CTG currently and went to the BAQ festival last week. I had the same minor worries, but it's a safe journey. Lots of euros and gringos were in the vans going to and fro BAQ. There are a lot of checkpoints along the way by soldiers. The company I used was Marisol, and there is also invertours. Marisol cost me 19K each way, much cheaper than the 140K+ of a taxi. Very nice, well maintained A/C vans.

Estaba bromeando
I think I read this somewhere before! ;) :)
I suggest you go to Medellin since this is your first time visiting Colombia. The paisas are some of the most beautiful girls in country, and Aussie Greg and his crew will be great guides for you on your first trip.
The other night down the 3rd street in from the beach alot of street action at 1 am, couldn't ask as I was walking with mi novia looking for pizza but there is plenty there.
My buddy and I will be in on Friday for a few days.
If anyone is interested in going around in a taxi with me or us checking the places on My Chica List, let me know.
Yes you are a little gullible to think that a 18yr old grilla would go downtown with you to a cheap hotel to bang after just meeting you, for free even, BUT I myself have thrown out many hoes for non negotiation so congrats there..
LOL.. well, when you put it that way! You're right.. and yet, I have been learning as I travel elsewhere in Colombia that simply being a gringo (even one twice their age) scores major points with girls here. To the point where it's not out of the question for an 18yr old girl to jump into bed just to get to call the gringo her boyfriend.
At Carnival in Barranquilla I had two 18-year olds give me their phone numbers, one of whom is still emailing me. I don't know whether it's that they think we're rich, and/or offer a way out of their lives to a better life in the States, or if they simply are more attracted to colored eyes and white skin.
Whatever the reason, I love it!
