New law to allow small brothels in Taiwan
Does anyone local know anything about this? This story was picked up by the Korean Herald on 2010-10-20, but I haven't found any follow-up on it in Taiwan. This follows a report in Nov. 2009 by the courts saying that banning prostituation violated the Taiwanese constitution.
If the story is accurate, a number of 141 type sites should begin cropping up.
"New law to allow small brothels in Taiwan.
A new law proposed by the Taiwanese government will allow small brothels with three to five workers, UK-based global news service Reuters reported. According to the Interior Ministry, sex workers will soon be able to re-establish small brothels legally for the first time since 1997, when Taiwan outlawed prostitution.
The establishment of small brothels will be prohibited near schools or areas frequented by children, according to the ministry's website. The ministry cancelled earlier plans to set up red-light districts or permit large brothels to prevent the sex trade from turning into a major industry.
In the past, sex workers in Taiwan operated underground, which left prostitutes more vulnerable to crime and abuse. Law makers began considering new laws two years ago after sex workers protested the law for its 'unfairness. '
Taiwanese law enforcers stopped arresting prostitutes in 2009. According to Reuters, activists estimate the number of sex workers in Taiwan to be about 600, 000"
Plan to legalize prostitution & currently legal brothels "outside Taipei"?
I followed the link but it says no page reported. Would love to see it though. Please resend the link if possible.
Thanks
Here is more recent article from Global Post date 24 November 2010:

If the link doesn't work, go to GlobalPost_com and search "Taiwan Sex Work"
The article seems to imply that no final decision has yet been made. And, I think, incorrectly says that nothing needs to be implemented until Nov 2011.
It also says "Outside Taipei, only 20 to 30 legal brothels remain, still open under a loophole." Does anyone know anything about these?
