If I may interrupt the pissing contest and ask a question. I have read the forum- thanks for all of you have your provided good info. I am wondering if someone can recommend a hotel / guest house that would serve two purposes (if it exists). One, to be able to use as a place to host my lovely companions that I meet at the various bars and clubs of the dark side. (in other words, monger friendly). However, I will be there on work, so need to be in a place that would not be identified as a mongering hotel, and would not easily come up that way on the web. I know this may be a tall order, but I wanted to try. 40 or 50 bucks would be about what I would like to spend.

My other option, of course, would be to stay in a "normal" guest house, and then rent a room in the Walkabout for 12 bucks a night. I would prefer not to have the hassle of two places.

As to your question: I suggest going to the Cozyna hotel on the riverside, right next to the fancy but definitely not girl friendly Bougainvilliers. Most expensive room is 33$ I believe. It's not a luxury place like the Raffles, but it's nice enough. More importantly, I know that as recently as Friday, you could rent a fully furnished flat within the hotel for 510$ a month, everything included. Naga is the top end for a real high class room. Gf friendly? Formally no. But if you have enough money for a week in Naga, you will find surely easily who need to be paid, for an amazing hottie sent to your room. Real classy customers, can ask everything. Obiouvsly, you cannot go to walkabout and bring a cheap charlie girl to naga. Exception is if you take a really beautiful girl, with classy clothes. Boeng Keng Kang 3, just 2 streets away from Toul Sleng the infamous school used as a torture chamber during the Pol Pot era. The 4 storey building is on a quiet street closer to St 163.

The owner has cleverly designed the building with the stairs going up to each individual floor so, I suppose, he can rent out the apartments on each floor individually.

Well, mine is on the 3rd floor. 4 x 18m (the 2 m used for the stairwell).

2 bedrooms (furnished with queen-sized beds, linens, wardrobe) with A / C, one with attached bathroom; the other bathroom is just next to the smallish kitchen, which is equipped with a twin gas stove, sink, washing machine and a medium sized fridge.

The 4x4m living room comes with those cushionless 3x2 sofa and seats, coffee table, a round dining table and 2 plastic chairs, an old JVC CRT color TV.

The rent is $250 plus $5 for cable, $5 for water. The landlord checks the meter for electricity usage to tabulate the total cost. Electricity is charges at $0. 25 for every kW which translates to about $50+ every month, with A / C on every night unless we are away.

On the top floor, lives a couple who keeps mostly to themselves; 1 floor below us a Canadian (I think) lives with his Cambodian girlfriend (or wife) with her 2 kids. On the groundfloor a Cambodian family. All nice people and quiet.

As an comparison, a friend of mine lives in a 1 bedroom service apartment near the Golden Tower, $300 for everything including internet and security for carpark.

A girlfriend lives in a $70 / month 1 room apartment with her sisters on the 5th floor with dirty stairs and corridors.

There are condos at $700 / month. And so on.

So, at $510 / month the apartment should be pretty 'deluxe'.

i thought this might be interesting to the poster because it fits his criteria: monger friendly but not overtly so, and very conveniently located (very close to 136, 104, within walking distance to sharkeys, and 51 is not that far off). the cozyna definitely has wi-fi, but as to the speed and the quality of the flat, i cannot say since i haven't experienced either. but i felt it was worth looking into from the point of view of op.

Thanks for the info, I am most thankful. It looks like Cozyna is a good option. For a variety of reasons, I need a hotel, not an apartment. I will be visiting in a couple of months- new to mongering in Asia, but have been to many Latin American countries over a very long period of time. Will most likely have a few more question down the road- for now reading the forum and trying to gather as much intel as I can on my own (before asking ton of foolish questions).

It is certainly, in my experience, Monger friendly.
